Hello all. Well, I am fat and I need to lose weight. Surprise surprise. I don't have a problem with self control for the most part. In fact, I am so tired of food, I don't even want to see it. My problem is that I am SOOOOOOO hungry. The two days a week I am at school, I can go almost all day without being starving, but the rest of the week I am home studying, and I can't shake it. I dont even want it. I drink water to fill me up, I keep busy with other things. It isn't boredom, and it isn't thirst. I am starting to think something is wrong with me. Does anyone know of anything I can do that does not include hoodia (which by the way did not work). HELP!
Thanks
Thanks

The best way is to keep from getting hungry in the first place. Small frequent meals, each one with a small serving of protein, will help keep you from getting hungry. This could be a glass of skim milk, or some yogurt, or a piece of fruit and a little bit of cheese, or a hard boiled egg and raw veggies, or a half a protein bar and a big glass of water.
Avs I have the same problem. I am maintaining and I almost always go over the calories I need to maintain. I usually go over by about 100-500 cals and I am still hungry. Then I have to work hard to burn all those extra cals. What I don't get is that I eat a lot of food that are healthy and supposedly filling like oatmeal, beans, nuts, whole grains, vegetable protein, fiber cereal, etc.. It is so hard and I just hope it gets easier with time.
sarah and avs, IMO we need to pay attention to what our bodies are trying to tell us. Now these aren't cravings - like wanting a donut, right? You feel hungry? You should eat something. Could you have maybe figured your calorie needs wrong? Maybe you are more active or do your exercises at a more intense level than you give yourself credit for? One thing I tend to do is overestimate how many calories are in my servings.
Anyway - it's not a good thing to always be feeling hungry. If you are sure your meals are balanced and nutritious, try increasing what you have for snack times. My favorite afternoon snack is a banana sliced up, in 8 OZ of fat free milk - it helps kill my sugar cravings. Please try making an adjustment and let us know how it goes...

Being at home and thinking about food is a diet killer. When you get food on the brain, you're doomed. Change your setting, listen to some music, GET YOUR MIND OFF THE FOOD! Go for a quick walk or something, anything. Make it a game. Say to yourself "ok, just 20 more minutes" then do another 20, then another, until it's time for a meal.
Make sure you're eating the right foods. When I'm just sitting at home doing nothing, I tend to eat when I'm really not that hungry. Get out of the house or something. I've found if I eat oatmeal and a slice of whole grain toast for breakfast, I'm set til lunch. And if I eat a turkey sandwich and a salad, I'm usually okay til around 3, then I eat some fruit or a granola bar. I eat a decent dinner (salad with fresh mozzarella and a veggie burger do the trick) and then I'm not hungry til bed. Or... if I do get hungry, I'll eat a luna bar around 8 or 9. I work second shift so I don't go to bed til 1a-2a anyway.
i recommend the ensure high protien drinks. the vanilla ones are great and they last a long time. (3+ hours)
Thanks nubiker- I have actually given this some thought. I know I am pretty accurate in my calorie counting but I am thinking maybe I burn a lot more than I think I do. That has to be it because always being hungry can't be normal. I decided I can go over my cals if I am really hungry, guilt free. We'll see how it goes.
Like other people have said make sure you're eating things that are filling. If you're eating foods with a lot of simple carbohydrates you probably won't be full for very long because your body will digest it very quickly. Foods high in fiber, or protein will help keep you full for longer.
