OMG! This has a lot of calories! Hot Sauce!
So, I'm heating up a Lean Cuisine pizza for dinner, which everyone knows are marginally good...at best. And all the while I'm thinking that I'm going to smother it Frank's Red Hot sauce (I always douse my pizza with this stuff...weird? Maybe. Good? Yes.). Anyway, I haven't had pizza since I started on CC so, I yank the Frank's out of the fridge, quickly scan the label, and promptly fell over from shock.
70 calories per teaspoon!!! How is this even possible?? It's hot sauce for crying out loud!!!
Anyone else have revelations like these? What food that you love a lot was the most shocking for you?

Yeah, well maybe it won't surprise other people, but I always felt peanutbutter had a shocking amount of calories per tblspoon. =( It's almost like a desert for me so I'm sad. Oh well XD
I got some cocktail sauce a while ago to have with shrimp. It was 120 calories for a couple of tablespoons of this stuff. I was really surprised, isn't cocktail sauce just ketchup, horseradish, and lemon juice? Come on...

I just had the opposite happen to me! I wanted something to dip my chicken in for dinner, and my mom had just bought this raspberry wasabi honey mustard that is supposed to be a pretzel dip and I LLOVVEEE that stuff. Anyways, so I quickly scanned the back and saw the numbers 44 and then somewhere else say 1 tablespoon. "not bad" I thought, and then when I was putting it away I read the label and it's actually 44 servings per container with only 10 calories per tablespoon. I was so happy!
but the same thing has happened to me that just happened to you. It was with a croissant. The croissant I had from wegmans looked to be a small croissant...which is about 170 calories. After I enjoyed it I checked the cals again and a wegman's croissant (they're tiny looking I tell you!) is supposedly 250 cals. Ugh!

;_; I hate when that happens. Or I don't check the label closely enough and the serving size is smaller than I expected...
I made chocolate chip cookies (about 12 medium sized, around 2 1/2 " dia) and found cho.chip cookies from the food database which said one medium around 2" dia is around 78 calories made from a recipe using butter. I used this to add to my food log. All was well and I was happy. This was a week ago.
Just now, out of curiosity I added all the ingredients in the recipe section and calculated the calories and it says each cookie is 216 calories! I find out now when I've finished all the cookies!
In order to save time, I picked the same sized cookie from the database and did not add it in the recipe section. I found out the grams/weight make all the difference. Will not be making this mistake again!

Crackers! Oh my gosh I used to eat a ton of crackers with tuna or dip and after eating about 10 of them I realized I just consumed 300 calories. Now I never touch crackers.
The regular Frank's Red Hot? Mine says 0 cal per tsp.

I recently realized that Splenda actually has calories! I was reading the threads with people worrying about it being bad for you or whatever, which I wasn't worried about...and I looked and on the website it says it has 96 calories/cup. I know that sounds like a lot of sweetener, but I use a lot of it! Now I have to measure out something I thought was calorie-free...depressing.
when it comes to sauces and spreads, seriously mustard is awsome for dippin veggies in or puttin on sandwiches cause there is little to no calories.
Ketchup is full of fat has loads of sugar in it and if you eat it with every meal your not doing your cal intake any favor ..........alot of the hot sauces you eat have a ton of ketchup like stuff in them thats why they are so high in the cals. I quit eating ketchup when i started my weightloss................just easier than putting it on everything and having to count in alot of extra cals

I never liked ketchup, though - I like my tomato-based things to be sour, not sweet-ish. I have to say I had my first V8 earlier today and I now love the stuff; its only drawback seems to be that it's high in sodium, but my sodium intake is low anyway, and the extra salt seems to help keep from getting dehydrated 30 minutes after drinking water.
