Just had to share because I've been a bit frustrated lately because after losing 50 lbs, I've now plateaued the last 4 weeks after starting a cardio/weight training program (yes I know all the reasons, water retention, muscle gain, etc - still frustrating though!)
Any way, sometimes it takes an OMG moment to make yourself feel better and very proud of your accomplishments to date.
Mine was last night - I was a pretty big girl (up top too) and therefore used to never be able to actually wrap myself in a towel, tuck it in and walk around, therefore I rarely ever tried. Well last night I needed to walk out of the bathroom, so I wrapped the towel around me real quick. Not only did it fit around me, it overlapped a full 6 inches!!! I literally said OMG and my eyes teared up, I was so excited. My husband just kind of laughed at me, and said didn't you realize how much smaller you are now? Well, no not really. It was really a reality check.
So, anyone else have any OMG moments they'd like to share?
Reason: 2/9/09: Stickied for a week; 2/17/09: Unstickied
I went to put on my dress pants today...and they're too big! i guess the 8lbs I lost has actually made a difference!

Just a small one. No biggie because i've only lost 13 lbs and have been not doing well for several days now and am also depressed at the moment but yesterday I put on a pair of jeans that were always tight. They are the button snap up kind. Although they are made of a stretch material I wore them tight (not on purpose) and I thought wow these are fresh out of the dryer and I bet they will be big on me now. I slid them on and no they were not big at all. I was kinda bummed about that eventhough they did slide on easier.
Well later in the day as they stretched out a bit they were falling off of me. Before when they would stretch out they would not fall off but were still a bit tight. So now I have to get rid of these pants. I can no longer wear them.
Not necessarily an OMG moment but more of a hmmm interesting that they fit when I first put them on but now too baggy after wearing for 2 hours.
I hate stretch jeans for that reason...they stretch and fall off. Anyway, I've always found that jeans are smaller fresh out of the dryer. I always throw mine in the dryer to shrink them up a little....
My latest OMG moment has been that I can't seem to shrink my jeans enough...
I was in the Jr's section and i was trying on pants shirts n stuff, I tried on this pair of size 13's that I thought were going to be way to small but figured I'd try them anyways (I used to fit into 24's, I've lost 77lbs) they buttoned and zipped n I said to my cousin that I never thought at almost a year from when I started this "diet" that I would be able to ever fit into anything in the Jr's section or a size 13.
another omg was when I got in my car forgetting I had my purse on and I thought as I was sitting down that I was going to be rejected and it was going to hurt... but I sat down with my purse at my side jacket on and everything, It was OMG I sat down in this seat n I have room to spare, lol
At my moms house she has two different kind of chairs for the kitchen table two have arms and four don't, usually I make a point to sit in the chairs without arms because my hips used to get stuck in the chair, well I sat in the chair n realized that I had room to spare on either side of me, YAY!

Those are wonderful OMG moments :D
These OMG moments are great!! Congratulations to everyone. Its inspiring.
Yes!! A couple of days ago i went to go try on some jeans..since ive lost 30 pounds already i havent bought none yet..and i got a pair of 10's then i saw some 8's and i was like what the heck ill just try them on! Well with out looking at the size i put a pair on to try..the pants fitted good not to tight nor loose so i just assumed they were the 10's but to my surprise they were the 8's!!!
I was so excited! That was my OMG moment!!!
Congrats on yours
I remember when that happened to me!lol
YOU GO, GIRL! My moment was when I pulled out my winter clothes, and the pants were wayyyy too BIGGGGGG YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY
I love these OMG moments. Mine was about 2 years ago, I lost over 55 lbs. While I was losing it, I had gone outside at work to chat and take a break. We all sit on this cement ledge outside our building. Well this one day I noticed that when I sat on the cement I felt bone!!!! I can't remember the last time that happened, or if Ever! It hurt sooo good! LOL
Maybe you haven't lost the pounds, but I'll bet that if measured yourself at your bust, waist, and hips, you'll notice a big difference. I had the same thing, but kept track of measurements and saw that they were changing, even though my weight wasn't.
Hope this works for you! :-)
My little OMG arrived last week. After working hard and loosing about 16% of the weight I'd like to loose, I had to take in the hooks on my bra. And Hanes panties that didn't fit, now do. I've moved out of Lane Bryant panties! I have been wearing knit pants and oversized t-shirts for so long, I didn't expect anything to "show up" in my clothes. It was good motivation to see something getting smaller!![]()
My OMG was of the negative variety that started me heading in a positive direction. I was walking into a local movie theatre when I saw a reflection in the entrance door of a large man walking behind me. He was very overweight and I thought to myself, "If I looked like that, I don't think I'd ever leave the house." Only when the door closed completely did I realize that the man wasn't behind me...it was ME! The next week, I joined a gym, used the services of a personal trainer and started to peel off some of the excess weight I have been carrying around for most of my 47 years. So far, I've lost 40 lbs. but I'm at a plateau. Still, I continue to work out 4 or 5 times a week and watch what I eat.
Love the story about the towel, I usually bought bigger ones, now I won't. Maybe a hand towel will be my goal (LOL).
Had my best OMG moment recently when I tried on my old Boy Scout leader uniform that I hadn't worn in 3 years. At the time that I was a leader I weighed in at about 460 pounds. When I tried on the uniform, the pants that used to be tight overlapped by at least 12". I am now at 359 pound and still working hard to get to my final goal of 235, still a very long way to go I know but I WILL make it. The 100+ pound I have lost has come over a span of 2 1/2 years although the last 47 pounds has come since Jan 1, 2009 when I got really serious about doing this. Wish me luck : )
I had tears in my eyes when I read about your OMG moment, thmheh. I had the exact OMG moment 5 or 6 years ago when I originally lost weight.
I continued to tear up with every one's OMG moments after that. So although I'm doing this all over again, I had to share the OMG moments I had during my many weight loss periods.
1. The towel thing was a powerful moment.
2. Finding my hips.
3. Finding out I could fit into size 10 pants when I was usually a 16 - 20 size.
4. The lovely collar bone being finally exposed.
I have to thank each and every one of you for such an inspiring thread. I have so many OMG moments to look forward to.
I particularly like the story about the 50 lb weight being too heavy to lift. It illustrated to me how much I really am carrying around on a daily basis.
Thank you! thank you! thank you! I feel so inspired by everybody. I have not lost that much weight yet but I will remain focused on the positives and by golly I will get to post my own personal OMG moment!!!
Everybody keep up the good work and lets keep this one going ![]()
My highest weight was at about 220, and I am down to 160 now. I've also hit a plateau for about 3 weeks. I've worked my way up to working out an hour a day at the gym. Frustrating to keep seeing the same number when I'm doing the work and eating right. It helps to read everyone's stories and know I'm not alone.
My best moments have been at my weekly yoga class. It is so great to finally be able to get into poses and folds that I never have been able to before. Forward fold is so nice now, and I also find I can do chattaranga as well as regular push-ups, since I'm building muscle with regular workouts and practicing at home, and just simply because I'm lighter - being able to lift my own body weight has become a reality. Sometimes I can't believe it!
I had one a few weeks ago.
I have recently lost about 25 pounds. I'd had a pair of pants in a size 16 that I bought last August that were skin tight because I was too embarassed to go into the plus size section. I HAD to get new jeans. They would not stay up, and were even sliding under the belt. I was expecting to be able to wear maybe a 13 or 14. Nope. I got an 11. I cried in the dressing room. These are nonstretch jeans and they are the EXACT same pair that I bought in August. As of today, I can fit my fist in the waistband of the 11s.
My other OMG moment was last weekend. I'm helping my mother pack because she is moving, and I found an old bag of clothes that I bagged up when I moved out 2 years ago to give to charity. These are clothes that not only could I not wear them, but I couldn't even get them on. I decided to try them on for the heck of it. EVERYTHING in that bag fit. My bikini from 4 years ago. My athletic shorts from 2 years ago. My "sexy jeans" from high school. Needless to say, I spent a good chunk of that evening crying. I wore those athletic shorts to aerobics yesterday :)
I can not wait until I lose the other 35 pounds.. :)
Ok, so it's not a real OMG moment but......I stepped on the scale this morning and it read 145.5..........obviously i didn't lose 40lbs overnight but when i re-weighed it was at 179.5 so I will take it......but that did put a little extra pep in my step this morning! ![]()
Reading cnkymnky's post reminded me of one of my own. My uncle got married back when I was in the fifth grade, and so I had to go get a suit. Now I'm 22, and I went back home for a break from school a few months ago after having lost about 90 lbs or so, and I was going through all my old clothes from high school, seeing what was now too big, what fit again, etc and there was that suit from fifth grade. AND IT FIT! The sleeves were about five inches too short, but it fit in the waist!
I've since lost almost 10 more lbs, and I'm going to be graduating from college in May, and the suit I will wear is going to be smaller than the suit I wore when I was 11! Granted I was a big 11 yr old, but still...
Don't you just love those moments? I had one this afternoon actually!
Last spring, I had bought a really cute pair of plaid Bermuda shorts without trying them on at the store. When I got home, I couldn't get the fly anywhere close to buttoning, much less zipping up, even while doing that girl thing where you lay down flat on the bed. Well, they found a home in the bottom of my closet until today. I was cleaning it out and sorting my "big girl" clothes into piles of what fits and what has to go. I found the shorts and decided to see if I was close to being able to wear them. I slipped them on... buttoned and zipped them with no problems. They we're actually hanging on my hips. I could not believe it. I just knew they would still be too tight but nope... they're too loose! I'm hoping that they'll shrink when I wash them and I can wear them THIS spring. :o)
So congrats on the success girl! I hope you have many more "Yes!" moments.
Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
