Just had to share because I've been a bit frustrated lately because after losing 50 lbs, I've now plateaued the last 4 weeks after starting a cardio/weight training program (yes I know all the reasons, water retention, muscle gain, etc - still frustrating though!)
Any way, sometimes it takes an OMG moment to make yourself feel better and very proud of your accomplishments to date.
Mine was last night - I was a pretty big girl (up top too) and therefore used to never be able to actually wrap myself in a towel, tuck it in and walk around, therefore I rarely ever tried. Well last night I needed to walk out of the bathroom, so I wrapped the towel around me real quick. Not only did it fit around me, it overlapped a full 6 inches!!! I literally said OMG and my eyes teared up, I was so excited. My husband just kind of laughed at me, and said didn't you realize how much smaller you are now? Well, no not really. It was really a reality check.
So, anyone else have any OMG moments they'd like to share?
Reason: 2/9/09: Stickied for a week; 2/17/09: Unstickied
I love reading these because I've experienced a lot of them, too! I went from 200-210 to about 135 three years ago. I have a lot of these that motivate me, so I apologize for the wall of text!
Ditto on the towel experience. I was also thrilled when I took a bath and I did not touch either side of the bathtub with my hips or thighs.
I went into Maurice's once and saw a beautiful dress that I wanted to try on. The saleswoman said the display dress was the only one they had left. She said "I'm sorry, but we only have an extra-small." I tried it on anyway, and it fit perfectly. To go from size 18 to actually being able to wear an extra-small kind of blew my mind.
I hadn't seen my aunt since I lost the weight. I went to visit her at her office, and when I opened the door, she told me to have a seat and she'd be right with me. There was no recognition on her face whatsoever. Once the other client left, I sat down and said "Hi, Becky!" and gave her a big grin. Her jaw dropped, and she got SO embarrassed because she had thought I was one of her clients!
During gym one day, our school's resident "mean girl" was talking to a group of her friends. I was standing there, too, and the girl looked at me and said, "You look so good since you lost weight. You look really amazing." I was floored and wanted to cry!
Also, the first time a guy could pick me up and carry me.
My neighbor wolf-whistled at me the other day. I was very upset because I thought it was sarcastic, and my boyfriend was like, "No, it's because you look damn good." I still have trouble accepting any compliment at face value because I always think it's an attempt to make fun of my size, because sometimes I forget that I'm not big anymore.

My moment: I am a Senior in High School, and so today I went shopping for my prom dress with my aunt and cousin. We were looking through all the dresses, and my aunt asked me what size I am. I told her 16 or 18, but when I tried on the dresses she brought me none of them fit! It turns out I am between a size 11 and 14 (mostly dependant on the bust). This is a definite high point in my journey, and I actually liked trying on all the dresses and looking at the thinner reflection in the mirror. Never thought I'd like clothes shopping!
haha, i know this surprise too.
when i have lost a significant amount of weight, i started finally being able to go to normal stores - not all of them, mind you, some only sell clothes for thin people and i was overweight but not too much - not obese like before.
it was funny to go clothes shoppin with my friend who was always trying on a zillion of things while i was looking for a handbag or so. i was like ravenous when i sidcovered i could try normal things too. spent some big money too, as i needed basically new everything apart from socks and scarves:)
thing is, these things will not automatically save you forever (i have regained a big amount back), but now when i am loing healthily again they serve as a rmeinder how good it feels to be of a normal-ish weight
OMG....I just bought size 12 shorts! I haven't been a 12 since I was 16 years old.....and now I'm 32.
Recently flew to TN to see my son and his family. Not only did the seat belt fit his year, but I had to snug it up! First time that's happened in many years!
One of my favorite OMG moments happened to someone I knew at Curves. She had been steadily losing weight and exercising for quite some time. One morning when she was shaving her legs she felt this lump in her calf. She panicked and made an appt with her doctor, fearing it was cancer. Her doctor reassured her that "lump" she was so worried about was just her calf muscle!
I also love shopping and it's amazing to see what I fit into these days. I found a really funky dress at a discount store. The dress is normally like $80 or more and I bought it for $10 thinking it could be an inspiration dress...you know one the I hope to fit into someday. So I tried it on to see how far I was from my "goal dress" and it fits!
&nb sp; &nb sp; ka2007 congratualtions that is a great feeling when you find out that you lost so much. Keep it up you are apparently doing very well pretty soon I will be read your sucess story. DAC 250
I had an OMG moment last night. I had nothing to wear for work today and was rummaging through my closet and saw a pair of size 18, Levi Flair Jeans I bought when I started this journey; hoping some day, I would be able to wear them. When I started out I could not fit into a size 32 plus size pant. For as laugh I decided to put them on and see how much more I had to lost to fit into them. OMG THEY FIT!! I couldn't believe it. I haven't been in a size starting with a "1" probably since I was 14 yrs old, and I am 41 yrs old. I was like a little girl , running all over the house like a maniac. My husband thought I had lost my mind. Being overweight my whole life, I am so used to wearing big, baggy clothes, sometimes it hides your weight loss efforts. Well, today when I came into work, 4 people commented on how much weight I have lost.
It's times like these that make this all worth while!!
&nb sp; &nb sp; Congratulati ons on your sucess that is a biggy.
&nb sp; ka2007: It is a great thing when you have worked soooo! hard and you go to shop and find out you don't wear the same size as you did but a smaller size, that is "GREAT" I am sooooo!!! pround for you.
I started water aerobics this week. I figured I'd lost enough weight that I could fit into a medium-sized float belt since I have a couple of size medium tops I wear now, but I had to tighten the medium all the way and it still wasn't as snug as I thought it should be.
Next time, I'll go for the small.
Small.
Guys, last year I was wearing size 20 pants and XXL shirts. The concept of a small? WOW!
Oh yeah, and an edit to add this one: I cannot wear my running pants that I got started in. I have these great, comfortable capris that I've been running in since I started running in November. I can't run in them anymore. When I was running on the treadmill on Wednesday, I had to constantly hold them up if I didn't want to show everyone my progressively more-toned butt.
&nb sp; I am on my way to buy some new clothes I have now lost 34 pounds and my clothes are litterally falling off me. I put my dress on and it was way too big and so I changed into my best pant outfit and you could have fitted two of us in hit, I showed my husband and he said, guess you had better go shopping before we leave on vacation.I have still more weight to lose before I reach my goal but to see that you are really getting even close to your goal makes all the hard work worth the climb. To all of you on line that has shred and experienced this sameOMG moment "GOOD" for you, all of us have a reason to give ourselves a" Big Hand"! DAC 250
dreadfulpenny: isn't it awsome!!! Looks like we all are doing great this week. So proud for you sounds like you may have reached your goal. I haven't got more work to do but reading all these good posts today really helps me and motivates me to keep going, to tell you the truth there was a moment when I was just about to throw in the towel. Your post well it inspired me. Thanks. DAC 250
Can I lose weight by walking on the treadmill for 20 minutes twice a day?
You will lose weight if your calorie intake is less than your calorie output. By walking on the treadmill for 40 minutes, you (personally... Read more
