So.... Egg white are good for you, right? Right.
I HATE EGGS. Abhor eggs. The taste, the consistency, the smell.
But I'm trying to be healty. So I made myself an omlette this morning (3 egg whites & 1/2c broccoli), and it was gross.
I'm also a really really really picky eater. I don't like most of the things that are "good" for me (no salsa, most veggies are bleck).
Can I load the egg whites with cinnamin & sugar & they'll taste ok? Like, are those ok things to put in an egg? Someone at work said ew to it, but I wanted to check here....
Any ideas on ways to make them better? I know I can't change the textures of them {{shudders}} but maybe if the flavor is good enough, that will be enough. (No, ketchup doesn't help) :)

Cheese!

Okay, skinny cow or whatever - cheese is high in fat unless you make yourself buy the skim kind.  But I can't eat an omelette w/o it.  Mmmmmelted cheeeessseee.

cinnamon and sugar sound gross to me, but I like eggs.  I make an omelette with 1 whole egg and 2 egg whites, a bunch of raw spinach (when are we going to get our raw spinach back!!!!) diced ham and part skim mozzarella.  If I make room in my daily calories and fat, I also add feta cheese.  Then I ruin my sodium for the day by dousing it with Louisianna Hot Sauce.

You could top it with Salsa, put mushrooms, onions, tomato, etc. inside.
also, if you really hate eggs, why don't you pick something else for the protein.  Maybe cottage cheese with veggies or fruit mixed in?
I hate eggs as well, just the concept of what they are. It always makes me think about someone eating the eggs from my body. GROSS.
Whoever said "ewwww..." must not know much about food. If you add cinnamon and sugar, you are half-the-way to eating a number of desserts, as well as pancakes and french toast. It's just that those things wouldn't necessarily be good for losing weight unless you alter the recipe a bunch and eat small portions.
Personally, I would back off on the sugar. But adding cinnamon and a little vanilla extract, some wheat flour and baking soda, chopped fruit like banana, apples, or pear...heck you can probably make a big-oven pancake. Top it with some more chopped fruit mixed with apple sauce and hey....why not? If it helps you to eat it, you might as well experiment. Just try and do it with natural sugars and low on the saturated fats.
I have a tough time with protein - chicken's not my favorite, don't eat any fish, love peanut butter (not the best source), so I thought maybe I could disguise them.
Don't like cottage cheese.. or salsa.. or mushrooms... or onions... or tomatoes.
Darn but I'm difficult!
Thanks, brokentink, love the visual - LOLOL!
That sounds really really good, jennys! The french toast was kind of my goal there.... :)
Can I add fruit to an omlette?
If you don't like eggs then don't eat them.  Try other stuff.  Do you like beans in any form - chick peas or navy beans or anything in that family?  They're an excellent source of protein and you could make yourself things like a vegitarian chilli that should have enough spice to help disguise the vegetables :-)
There's also tofu which comes in dessert flavours like almond - just add some cubes into a fruit salad and voila.  You can take regular tofu and marinade the heck out of it, then pan fry it so it's crispy on the outside too.  I like using a teriyaki style sauce but you can pick your favourite.
I love hummus - that's chick peas, but I eat it with baked pita chips, which aren't so good. :(
The tofu sounds like something to try.... Marinate it, huh?
I like to leve it cubbed up at least over night in the fridge - longer if I can.  There's even light tofu only 30 calories for 1/4 of the package though it is harder to find.  I'd get the firm kind since it has more bite to it.
If you like curry you can make curried chickpeas - that's pretty low in fat and very tasty.
you CAN add fruit to an omelet....my mom used to make us grape jelly omelets all the time when we were kids.  it kinda tastes like crepes.  i say try it - and if you don't like it, try something else.  beans are good protein sources, too, and peanut butter (any nut butter) is NOT a bad source if you watch your portion size.  also, quinoa is a great vegetarian protein source - use it as you would in most rice dishes.
It's important not to eat food that's "good for you" if you don't particularly like it... this is a "lifestyle change" not an endurance challenge... you won't stick with it if you're not enjoying what you eat.  What do you like?  Then look for healthier ways to enjoy it - cut back on portion size, only use half of the cheese called for in a recipe, think outside the normal "breakfast foods" and have a peanut butter and banana sandwich for breakfast.

Try making French Toast - 1 egg and 1 egg white beaten with a little milk, soak 2 slices of whole grain bread in the mixture for a minute and then pan fry (spray the pan with non-stick spray or wipe it with a little oil) until golden brown on both sides and top with fresh fruit.

o1darcie1o... try eating your hummus with cucumber slices as the dipper instead of pita chips (or along with a small measured amount of pita chips)... one of my favorite lunches is cucumber and radish slices dipped in hummus
Gert - you made me smile becuase I had a peanut butter and honey sandwich for breakfast this morning because I'm out of bananas.  AND I make french toast every weekend.  I use eggbeaters and vanilla extract.  Depending on my mood, I'll use either whole wheat bread or pepperidge farm's whole grain cinnamon swirl with raisins.

I always add cinnimon to my eggs and a bit of nutmeg.  I find it especially good when its just egg whites.
you could always make a fruit filled crepe. apples are in season so start there. then bit of cinnamon. think of it as a pancake that is made mostly of an egg. they are very tasty, easy to make and a great way to incorporate eggs into your diet without the "grossness" of them.

Crepes are also a fantastic way to add fruit, meat, and otehr great healthy ingredients into your diet!! eat them from breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert.

They freeze well too! Good luck adding healthier protein! I feel your pain on the peanut butter!
Do you like pancakes?  If so, make some using whole wheat flour, flaxseed meal (for one serving, about 3 pancakes, use 1 cup mixed dry ingredients and 1/2 tsp baking powder)  and 2 egg whites beaten with just enough milk to thin the batter to pouring consistancy.

Or - french toast - Let the whole grain bread get a little dry and then leave it in the beaten egg substitute to soak up as much as possible.  Get it nice and brown on both sides in a non stick pan and serve it with fruit spread.

Or custard - beat egg whites or egg substitute with milk, about 1 egg to each cup of milk, sweeten with Splenda and vanilla, pour into a glass dish and bake at 350f for about 30 minutes, or until set.
how about a vanilla protein shake?

1 cup of skim milk or 1 low fat vanilla yogurt

1 cup frozen blueberries

1 scoop protein powder

1 tbsp ground flax seed

put all in blender, blend, drink and belch
