Once I start I just can't stop!

Quote  |  Reply

I don't know what it is, as soon as i start eating I LITERALLY cannot stop, no matter how hard I try.  It's unusual, if I don't eat, then I don't need to, but as soon as I try to establish some nomalacy into a structured eating routine, it all goes to pot.  If you heard the quantities of what I eat you would be horrified... it as if my belly is swelling before my very eyes.. but I still didn't feel full.

Does this happen to any of you?

Any suggestions are more that welcome.

If you're on the Weight-Gain board because you're underweight through undereating then what you're experiencing is quite common.   People in your situation can find that once they have access to food they develop a ravenous appetite.... it's self-preservation.  Don't fight it but work with it and use it to your advantage.

Some tips to help bring things back under control

  1. Eat more slowly.   Eat with other people if you can.  Savour your food rather than gobbling it.   Don't eat and multi-task.... switch off the TV etc.  Eat in a separate room e.g. kitchen or dining room.  By slowing down the eating process and by giving it more attention you can find you register that feeling of 'full' better
  2. Eat 'little and often'.... regular meals and snacks, a steady stream of energy, works best
  3. Choose energy-dense, nutrition-dense foods..... e.g. foods with a high fat content.  These foods mean you reach your calorie-intake goals faster and you can feel quite satisfied.  Bulky, fibrous foods like vegetables can mean you feel stuffed and bloated but not necessarily 'full'.
  4. Have less food around.   Buy and cook what you intend to eat for the day.  If it's not there you can't eat it.
  5. Eat fewer convenience foods.   It's harder to eat to excess if you have to physically prepare your food rather than pour it out of a packet.
  6. Make sure you're getting your full weight-gain amount of calories.

Those are some really constructive suggestions.  What sort of foods would you recommend if I am trying to loose weight but still wanting to achieve feeling full?

Thank you GI

calos, if you are trying to lose weight, you need to be posting on the Weight Loss forum. The Weight Gain forum is for people who are actively seeking to gain weight (you can send a PM to a moderator listed at the top to have your thread moved to the appropriate forum).

Also, it might help if you shared your stats - age, height, weight, gender, and how much you are eating.

whoops sorry :)

If you're trying to lose weight then all you have to do is swap around the third recommendation a little.   Eat more bulky fibrous foods like vegetables and wholegrains and fewer energy-dense foods..... but still make sure that you get some protein and fat at each meal.

Number 6. would be revised to 'make sure you're getting an adequate weight-loss amount of calories'..... that means pitching your weight-loss intake just a little below your full energy needs rather than crash-dieting.

The rest of the suggestions I would stand by.

NB... Don't post the same subject twice.  Leave it to the mods to make the swap.

Try to overeat on carrots; your stomach will explode before you consume excess calories.

Lmao...I always found celery makes me quite full and you can eat so much of it and still have calories down in the low. Plus it really doesn't make you want to eat much more until your next meal. :P

I know what you mean, I went to tacobell at 4pm and ate 4 volcano tacos... then at 6pm i went to jack in the box and ate 4 tacos and 1 jumbojack and a large fry.. and i was still hungry when i got home and ate a WHOLE box of mike and ikes and some candycorn... wow

It would have been quicker and more efficient if you  just ate a can of lard with some salt and sugar sprinkled on it.

For me it's drinking lots of water before, during, and after a meal.

I'm hoping that you don't know this from experience... lol
