Was when I first Calorie Count. And I can honestly say that without the knowledge and support of the folk on this site, what I have done would not have been possible.

Let’s take a look at the numbers. One year ago today I weighed in at 538 pounds. Today I weighed in a 358, or one pound above my recent all time low.

So that makes for a total lose of 180 pounds. So I multiply 180 by 3500 calories to the pound, and that would give me a calorie deficit of 630,000 cals over the past year. Or a monthly cal deficit of 52,500 (15 pounds a month) . Or an average weekly calorie Deficit of 12,115 cals (3.46 pounds a week). Or a daily cal deficit of 1721 cals a day (just short of half a pound a day.

But, of course, I‘m not losing weight that fast now. I was 394 on January 3rd, so a loss this year of about 36 pounds for a cal deficit of 126,000 cals. Or a loss of 12 pounds a month (42,000 cal deficit). Or a loss of 1.9 pounds per week ( 6635 cal deficit per week). Or a loss of .39 pounds per day (1355 cal deficit per day).

Well look at that. It looks like that since the first of the year I have been within Calorie Count recommended guidelines of losing no more than 1-2 pounds per week. I’m pushing the limit, but still within guidelines.

Two years ago at this time I was somewhere around 650 pounds, swilling 3-6 liters of cherry coke a day. Eating mostly junk food. Hardly any activity at all. Really simply waiting to die.

One year ago I was 538 pounds, and just coming off what was a week long fast. That was the tail end of about 3 months of bipolar depression. This is where I found out that drinking the recommended 8 glasses of water a day was the fast road to dehydration. It also dawned on me that maybe the rules and recommendations are not much more than a basic guideline. This is when I realized I needed help.

This is when I was fortunate enough to do a google search, and came across the site that taught me how to lose weight the right way., and there by changing my life forever. You see that was the problem. I knew nothing of calorie deficits. I didn’t understand that due to our genetic makeup, humans need calories and activity to live a healthy and fit lifestyle.

And, as of today, things are much different. Over the past year I went from eating well under 1000 cals a day (and not losing weight). To eating 3-4k cals a day, eating pretty much what I want within reason, and being the most active I have been in 30 years. And still managing to take off 10+ pounds a month. Not too bad for a 46 year old troll.

And there are so many folk to thank the list would run too long. So I am going to hit just a few. So if I leave a name out, please forgive an old man whose mind is not as it use to be. First I want to thank our own Ms. Claire. My first friend on CC, and a voice of reason and calm during turbulent times. Howard of course for blazing the path with the CC plan. Melkor for helping me realize my physical potential. And my confidant MK, who sits and listens while I carry on about how unfair the world is to me.

And there are soooo many others. Including each and every friend I have here at CC. All our great mods of course. And all others who behind the scenes work so hard to make Calorie Count the great site it is today.

Thanks Everyone!!!

I Hope You All Have An Excellent Sunday!!!

Normally a 1700 calorie deficit would be too much, but I think it's ok for you because it's reccomended that you lose a maximum of 2 pounds a week, or 1% of your body weight.

But anyway, congratulations on your loss! That's pretty amazing! CC is an awesome website.

Holy crap duke, the transformation is amazing.    I am so proud of you!!!!  Keep it going and keep posting your progress, its an inspiration.

One remark triggered me though: "This is where I found out that drinking the recommended 8 glasses of water a day was the fast road to dehydration". Since this is not really the place to explain that I will start a new thread for that in the Weight Loss section of the forum.

Congratulations!

I am sure you are much happier and healthier.

Thank you for sharing. That is an amazing journey. Keep up the good work!

hmmm, one year ago today... where was I?

In denial!  Fat, unfit, caffeine addicted, bread guzzler, sugarholic, uncomfortable in my own skin and afraid of mirrors and camera, but otherwise a real nice person. Yep that's where I was and who I was!  Thank God I am changing all that but I can't wait to say that I have been walking the healthier road for a whole year.

Well done duke!  Happy anniversary!!! You deserve to feel proud!

Thank you so much for sharing!  Your story is AMAZING!!

Congratulations on your success, Duke! Keep it up!
