So... i usually plan out my meals the night before. All healthy choices of course. But usually something during the day comes along (usually on the weekends) and i decide to indulge a little. Like today for example - around 3 pm, my friend made some dirt pudding and that's SOOOO good, so i had some - a reasonable amount.

I did really well today in the gym - worked out 2 hours... so i figured a small dessert wouldn't hurt. BUT... then it just went downhill. Since then - i had McDonald's for dinner, which i haven't had in months! Some m&ms, a mini sized snickers, and a mini sized twix, and a little more dirt pudding!

WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME?!!! I do have BED - binge/restrict. But i've been binging for a couple of days and i haven't RESTRICTED in 2 weeks!

So basically my question is... why is it that when i let myself have a dessert/treat earlier on in the day, i find it SOOOO hard to resist crappy foods the rest of the day? Why can't i just be happy with the 1 treat and eat good the rest of the day? It's like i just crave crappy foods for the rest of the day!

I really know what you're talking about. It's why I always try to save my treats for after dinner (about an hour after, ideally.) You think you can just have desert after lunch, for example, and skip it later-- but no!! Your sugar cravings are now turned ON and don't leave you alone for the rest of the darn day.

It's even worse when I let myself go a little bit for breakfast. You can imagine the pile-up effects of that. =o

That's why I try to stick to only about 4 different sorts of things for breakfast. If I have a 'good' breakfast then I have more incentive to have a 'good' lunch, and then I am already halfway there.

Just pick it up tomorrow. You'll feel better to wake up with a nice big 0 on your calorie meter. =)

thanks... i'm just so MAD at myself right now! I was on track for about a week, only having a little serving of jello at night - after dinner! But my best friend ALWAYS eats junk food... mcdonalds, pizza hut, candy, ice cream... you name it!! I can tell she's gained some weight over the past few months because of it. BUT.. i'm always at her house! So it makes it really difficult when there's all this tempting food there and she's eating it - i want it too!

But now i'll be working full time and working out everyday - so i wont see her as much. I know it wont be as tempting.

I totally agree... it's best to save the dessert for after dinner. Then i can just go to bed! STUPID STUPID sugar! I hate it!

omg, i know what u mean!  i always restrict my caloric intake,  but when fattening food presents itself... i will eat all of it.

once i start eating the bad foods, then i just cannot stop, even if i am full.  My parents took me out to breakfast yesterday and i ate 5 rolls, 4 slices of toast with jam, a crab omelette, hashbrowns, and i would have eaten more but we had been there for awhile.  I know, its a little intense.

on days like these, when i know that i have eaten wayyy over 2000 cal. after the meal, i purge what i can.  but what i wonder is, do the sugars from the food stay in my system even if i purge less than an hour after eating?

umm...I dont think this thread was discussing purging as a solution to the problem.....i think you might want to get some help for that..., if not please dont impose this behavior on others here!

I'm with Linny on this one; even if you think purging might be the answer, KM, please don't bring it up as a potential way of ''righting a 'wrong' '' here. I've had issues with b/p in the past, almost did it this morning after breakfast actually, but now that I've come a bit more back to my senses and realized that purging does nothing but screw with your esophagus, it's been easier to keep away from that awful habit.

Getting back to your post, Linny, I know exactly what you mean! I had some Honey Comb cereal for breakfast this morning and it's, just like you said, been downhill from there. I think it's just the sugar, the most simple carbohydrate going, itself that gets us going and craving more, more, more! Plus, personally, I generally don't eat the stuff on its own so getting a little bit winds up into a binge.

The best idea, as was already brought up in this thread, is probably waiting until later in the day to ''indulge'' in the pre-portioned treat of your, mine, our choice. :)

Just have your treat right before bed, then you'll just go to sleep and not have to worry about it the rest of the day because you'll be slepping.

No this post wasn't about purging. But i understand that some binge eaters do try to do that.

Anyways - i actually refused the mexican food, desserts, and snickers my co-workers tried to shove in my face today! YEAH!! I've done really well today and i think i'm on the right track.

For my "Dessert" tonight - i had one of those Fiber One chocolate chewy bars. Lots of fiber so it fills me up, yet oh so chocolaty :) YUM!

I do think that carbs AND sugar just create more cravings. That's what the South Beach diet consists of... getting rid of those cravings. But once you have a little indulgence, those cravings are back again. So i'm just working on dealing with them.

sorry 4 my random question everyone. just chill, im not bulemic. ive only done it a few times in the past. thanks for the concern
I did that yesterday.  I was stressed, honestly because school is eating up my time and I didn't have time to cook a healthy lunch, so out of my stress I ate a HEALTH cupcake.  From there, I ate all my chocolate, then went somewhere else and ate all their bad food, caught myself, went and ran for an hour, calmed down, swore I would eat a cup of soup for dinner and start over, but had ONE cupcake, which led to three, which led to spending 19 dollars last night on candies and fast food until I was so bloated my stomach hurt.  I definitely hate it.
lilcletus - i totally understand what you mean! Why is it that when you just have 1 little treat... it ends up totally screwing up your day?! That's why i had to say NO, because i knew it would mean the rest of the day would be screwed up... especially since there's this really good cake here at my house... but i'm hoping my mom and sis eat it before i get a really bad craving!
