My one month progress~Please give suggestions!

Quote  |  Reply

Hi all

Today is the one month mark since I had decided to eat normally and sensibly. I had been battling obsessive compulsive eating for years now, and this is the longest I've tried to eat healthy.

I've always exercised (gym, jogging, pilates), even over the period of my OCE. Since I ate tons, my weight has been going up instead of down. No one could believe that I exercise at all.

A month ago, I just started minding what I put into my mouth. Basically cutting out junk food and eating sensibly. I did not change my exercise routine one bit.

Here's what happened and I want some advice/suggestions:

week 1: down 7 lbs ( i'm thinking, okay, water weight)

week 2: down 4 lbs

week 3 : down 4 lbs

week 4 (today): down 4 lbs

I know this is more than the "safe" pace, but what is the danger in losing at this pace? Is it that if I decided to have a muffin or a bowl of pasta, I'll gain it all back with a vengence?

Thanks for your ideas!

As long as you are eating ENOUGH and exercising, I see no problem with your quick weight loss.

And of course a treat here and there won't make you gain back all of your weight! Just eat sensibly, duh Wink

you would need to post your stats to make sure you were eating enough.

As for problems associated with quick weight loss it depends if you have done this by dropping your cals too low.  I lost a lot of weight on 1200 cals a day but regained a good chunk of it because I had messed up my metabolism :( which is why I'm now on CC trying to put it right!!Smile

Mimi_js>> Your post is very contradictory...

Losing 4lbs per week regularly is a problem, and if you are eating enough it would not happen.

The maximum safe deficit for MOST people is 1000 per day equating to 7000 in the week.

This equates to 2lbs.

You can not eat enough, lose 4lbs and be healthy for a long period.

2 lbs a week is a guideline.  Losing faster than that to begin with is common; it's also common to lose faster than that if you are very overweight (like me!).  If you are eating enough - that is, if you're not eating so little that you are messing up your metabolism - then the dangers are mostly cosmetic - I think!  I am not an expert and I would definitely recommend talking to a doctor about your goals and plans.  But anyway, the cosmetic risks involve your skin not snapping back behind the weight you lose, resulting in a pouch of unwanted floppy skin.

Roj47, Not everyone's bodies are built the same way. Look at it this way- If I ate NOTHING for a whole week, I would have a 11,200 calorie deficit. And the "experts" will tell me that 11,200 calories equate to 3.2 pounds. Trust me.. if I fasted for an entire week, I would lose WAY more than 3.2 pounds. So sometimes, you just have to trust your own body. It's very possible that Firlap is eating enough calories and still losing a large amount of weight at the same time.
