I plan on walking in the mornings every other day and stretching as possible I'm really out of shape. I alson need to gain more muscle mass.
that sounds like a great start! What part of Ohio are you in? I'm in NE and the weather has been fantastic lately! I jog M, T, W mornings and ride my bike to work TH and F. I've been doing free weights for a while for upper body and am going to start working on my lower body strengthening b/c I think it will improve my jogging and biking.

I need gain upper body strength and gain muscle mass in my legs. I need to buy some free weight to start my upper body exercises what weight amount do you use. The lean toned look is exactly what I want.

I started out with 5lb weights and am using 8lb now. For the non bulk look I've heard to use smaller weights, and do higher reps.
I started doing 3 sets of 12 reps of about 6 different arm exercises with the 5lb, and would work my way up by 2's every week. Week one- 12 reps, week 2- 14 reps, week 3- 16 reps etc etc. When I got to be able to do about 18 reps, I bumped it up to using 8lb weights. I started again at 12 reps, then 14, now I'm up to 18 reps and squeezing in one set that has 22 to 24 reps. I think rather than adding a new size weight, I'm going to add another set. With the 8lbs I'm only doing 2 sets right now, so I may start doing 3 in July.
I also have a weight bench that isn't huge. My b/f actually got it but I don't think he really uses it :) He got it from KMart for $40 and it has 3 different inclines which is great for working different muscle groups.
I'm not really any kind of expert, so if you need some help with actual exercises check out other web related resources, like prevention.com. I've heard good things about their explanations and such. Also, bodyscience, a user (possibly moderator) here is a body builder, I think. I've heard that he is really helpful with these things too.

oh, and the only kind of lower body strengthening I have now is an abs, butt and thighs dvd. It's by prevention and it's only 30 minutes. It uses free weights. I haven't used it in a while but am going to start with it again Sunday.
I have 5lbs left till goal weight and it's going to be pretty tough since I'm trying to build muscle at the same time!

Thank for the advice about the weights and reps. I should help I dont really know anything about lifting. The only exercise tape I have is an dance exercies dvd. which I dont use but plan on because I live to dance. I hope you reach your goals. Good Luck

I didn't either when I started... I kinda made it up as I went along, lol. You'll get there! And it's so fun to have muscle! I impress my b/f with the stuff I can pick up sometimes :)
