I'm looking for a few brave souls who are getting back up on their feet after the holidays.  I stayed the same weight, for the most part, and now need to get motivated for the next two cold, long months of winter.

I'm just not up for lots of resolutions, just need some conversation to keep me on track.  It's fun to hear the successes and new ideas.

I have one goal right now.  Lose one pound.  After that then I'll work on the next one.

Any takers?

Ok....I'll bite!  But not into that yummy but oh so horrible hashbrown casserole!

Hello, I'm Shannan and I am new to this site but not new to trying to lose weight.  Since I left the party days of my 20's behind I have watched my weight go up, up and a"weigh"!

I'm 44 and will be 45 in March, have an 8-year old daughter, and a sedentary job.

I tried out for Biggest Loser about a year ago with my lifetime friend but we were not given a call-back.

I have an initial goal of losing 60 pounds by the end of the year and then would like to drop another 20-30 depending on what my body tells me to do.

Logging my food intake and physical activity has been very helpful in my first few days of sincere effort toward getting healthier.

I really have to get moving....exercise is going to go a long way to helping me reach my goals.  Last night I went with a friend out to the Beach Club and danced for an hour and a half.  A $5 cover charge was not a bad price to pay for the night and the band plays great 80's & 90's music and the DJ in between sets plays the current dance hits.

My one problem is the lack of support I feel from my ex-husband who I recently got back together with after being divorced/separated from for close to 7 years.  Throughout those years we maintained a great relationship and stayed friends but it bugs the heck out of me that he continues to drink beer, eat pizza and anything he feels like (which we always had fun doing together)!

The only thing I miss about my ex-boyfriend is the physical affection....he really liked me the way I am physically although he had a lot of other criticisms to throw my way!

OY...I'm am pushing TMI here - I need some support too!  I'll take one pound at a time in fact I will be happy with 5 pounds a month!

Looking for a fellow Loser!!!!

Excellent!

I love casseroles.  I swear that's been my worst secret binge.  I have much harder  time resisting that than any desert out there, and one bite?  I don't think so...

I turned 45 in Oct and it seems losing the weight now is a bit harder than it used to be, hence the new one pound goal....

I have really slacked off recording what I eat and my activity.  Need to pick that back up, now that the holidays are over I'll have a bit more time.

Welcome aboard!

And one more groupie!  I, too, am trying to get back in the swing of things after the holidays!

I try to stay fit and eat well, but this xmas was the most indulgent ever.  I'm in a new relationship and the new guy (and his family) happen to be my new favorite things.  As a result, I threw two dinner parties (smashingly good fun) and even did some baking!  I'm not a baker (preferring savory to sweet) but I made cookies, cakes, scones, and even some semifredo (homemade ice cream of sorts), not to mention the turkey, the ham, the quiche, the stuffing, the mashed potatoes, the frozen fruit swiming in melted white chocolate desserts, the croissants, the cheese plates, the fruit plates, and I could so keep this list going.  Dude....

To make indulgent holidays worse - I practically stopped working out altogether.  One day a week (if that much) just isn't going to cut it for me with that kind of diet!  A good love life is very, very bad for my waistline!!!

Last summer, I was working out 4-5x per week.  I'd like to get back into those good habits.  A little encouragement here would be great!

So what are your workout plans for tomorrow??  And how do you feel about red meat in your diets?

And another groupie.... l recently started this lifestyle change and have been on this site since Nov. 08. l had been on a diet once before with exercise (was taking a diet pill) and lost a lot of weight, which l gained back plus more. So now no more quick fixes, l eat right and exercise.

l have been losing weight steadily since Nov. 5th when l started, but didn't lose any last week maybe because it was TTOM or what. Now that the holidays are over maybe l can finally make it to the gym with no excuses. l am willing to join as many groups as it takes to lose this weight. l am my own biggest obstacle, my husband has recently started working out everyday, the kids are all athletic. l used to play volleyball, that was in another lifetime, sometimes l fantasize about getting my old figure back, but l am not holding my breath. Just turned 38 and but l feel half that, don't know if that is a good thing or not.

l am looking for motivation, conversation and general chitchat that leads me in the right direction, l have recently started replacing socializing around food to doing other things. l have been experimenting with low carb, low fat recipes that l make up, since l hate those packaged frozen foods, too much sodium and too little in size.

So lets geturdone people!!!

More groupies are good!  Welcome!

Alovejones:  Wow, that sounds like some really good food.  I love to cook too and being a foodie/wine lover makes this whole diet thing pretty hard sometimes.

Fabnina: I did the same thing last year about this time, went on a major crash diet and then regained all plus more....

As for exercise, I'm going to go climbing at the climbing gym tomorrow.  My climbing buddy and her family are coming back from vacation.  I'm going to have to shovel my drive out again today, the wind has dumped all the snow right back I shoveled out on Sunday.  Good exercise!

This week is TTOM so I'm just going to try not to eat everything in sight and call it good.

Cheers!

Hi all, Im lisa and i just started this healthy lifestyle two months ago. I am 5'11 and have lost 15 lbs in the past two months. Current weight is 213 lbs.

I had a complete hysterectomy in my middle 30's and i am 43 now. I dont regret not one day of having that done, but i do believe it put some extra weight on my already existing overweightness..lol, I know that aint a word. I am from the south so forgive me. I am taking this one day at a time and spend most of my non-working hours on this site to keep me focused.

I really need to workout more, wish there were someone here to kick me out of bed in the morningsUndecided. I do very well once i get to the gym, but sometimes getting there leads me to alot of procrastinating.

Hi Ann!

I'm hoping in here because well - frankly I'm sick of what I did to myself over the holidays. A month off (December - trip to an all inclusive with the boyfriend and many many family Christmas's and New Years) basically ruined 2 months of hard work... so now I'm depressed that I've wasted 3 months!!!!

I'm moving to the big city soon and worried I will get lazy - it can't happen!!!! Must keep trucking....

Hi J,  good to 'see' you!

No getting lazy!!!!!  We won't have it, we won't!!!!  (Right, big talk from me....LOL)

One thing about moving is that means packing and lifting/slogging around boxes.  That counts toward exercise :)  ick.

Now you get to be an inspiration--AGAIN!

Okay One Pounders!  I did it, I did it!

I made it through a Monday back to work with all the stress but started the day with a 30 minute walk this morning with my daughter even though it was still dark out and the fog was so thick it was more of a mist!

Stayed on my eating plan and within my calorie count. Then, get this!  While my daughter was in the shower (at 8-years old you can play a long time) I did 10 minutes on the elipitical....really slow of course; 10 minutes on the fitness ball with weights....only 5 pounds each of course; and 10 minutes of stepping!

Woo Hoo!

How long does it take to turn something into a habit?  30 days?  Or is that how long it takes to break a habit?

Good for you svmom! l heard it takes 11days to turn something into a habit so 10more days if that is true. l just bought Jillian Micheal's 30day shred dvd today, maybe l can do it when the baby is taking a nap. Wish me luck

{{{{CLAP, CLAP, CLAP}}}}

Way to go svmom!!!! You Go!!!

I had a bit of a sugar meltdown last night and hit the sugar cookie dough. (it's been years since I made cookies).  TTOM monster got me.  LOL.

I've heard 6 weeks to form a habit and 4 days to break it. Not fair at all is it?

Unfortunately (or fortunately...) I won't have to move/lift/pack a thing. It's all being taken care of by a moving company (even the unpacking!) paid for by work. Why lift a finger when I can lie on a couch and watch them do it all??? :D

I dragged my butt off the couch and went and did 30min of cardio AFTER dinner (very hard for me to do) in order to miss out on the new years swarms after work. I am proud I went... even if I didn't do much while I was there.

Dropped a little weight today - hoping the trend cotinues all week!

Here is my 'deep' philosophical opinion on habits:

I think how hard a habit is to form and break is inversely proportional to whether it's good for you or bad for you.  If you are trying to form a good habit, it takes a gazillian weeks to lock it in and a few minutes to blow it out the window and if it's bad for you then you can form that habit in a nano second and spend a lifetime trying to ditch it!  (It's a conspiracy of the gods...)

I finally stepped on the scale.  It wasn't as bad as I thought, still 174.2 so now I just have to get to 173.2  (I guess I should throw away the cookies I made from what little dough was left)

I'm in the same boat and would like to join. I have been slacking since half-way through October until yesterday wjen I took the first step back on track, I did a workout. Today I am logging my food. Tomorrow I will weigh myself properly. Time to get back to work.  Nice to meet you all, I'll post a more detailed intro later, I have a sleeping baby on one arm right now. Her momma will be back in about an hour.

-Nikdust

annschmech - I totally AGREE with your philosphy!!!

I know I am not supposed to weigh myself too often but I figure right now in the beginning of this new lifestyle I am going to get positive results because I was eating sooooo poorly and barely moved my Ample Sitting Surface at all!

I got on the scale again this morning and it read 205!!!  Woo Hoo - that is 5 pounds since 12/31/2008!  I am hoping to get to 150 by the end of 2009 and then I will see what happens after that.  I am prepared for the plateau but right now I am enjoying the journey on the way to the destination and today was a great day!

Anyone have any suggestions on cutting costs, prep time, and log time?  I know it's more expensive to eat healthy but oy! And I am spending more time measuring and then logging everything! Any input would be greatly appreciated!

G'night - I have to get up early to go for a walk before work!

Yah I guess I agree with certain habits being easier/harder to gain/lose! :) Eating cookies is an easy habit to stick to. :) hehe

svmom - i don't think there is a rule about how often to weigh yourself. I've actually read that people who weight themselves daily are more realistic about their weight loss.  Personally I think daily weigh ins (same time same conditions help too) help teach you about your own natural flucuations in your weight and help to set good trend lines if you log those weights daily! You just have to be prepared for up days and down days and focus on what the overall trend is.

Today is my last official day of home - tomorrow is move day. I won't lie - I'm in a little bit of a panic state with regards to my organization at this point...

lol anschmech, l agree with that deep philosophical view of urs!!, svmom weight to go!!!!!

jef9up, no need to panic l myself hate moving, just because l don't like carrying all those boxes. But it is something that must be done now, just like me going to the  gym and counting calories is not the most pleasant thing to me but l have decided to make it a part of my life. The moving is only for a short period and hopefully in no time, you would be settled in. Goodluck in your move.

Jef9up,   I hear you about the panic and organization thing.  It's a hassle to move.  I've moved more times than I can count.  I always end up buying things I 'thought I had but can't find' then when I start cleaning out boxes have 2 or 3 of the same thing. Goodwill makes out like a bandit.   I finally bought my little house on the hill and have actually been living in it for 6 years (wow, that's a new record).  Good luck on your move!  Cookies ease the pain.... :D

Wahooo svmom!  You go!

I found out that if I just step on the scale, it's okay.  I usually feel like I've gained 30 lbs and then find out that I've either stayed the same or lost weight.  I tend to play head games with myself.  Stepping on the scale is a reality check for me.

Welcome nikidust
