I'm looking for a few brave souls who are getting back up on their feet after the holidays.  I stayed the same weight, for the most part, and now need to get motivated for the next two cold, long months of winter.

I'm just not up for lots of resolutions, just need some conversation to keep me on track.  It's fun to hear the successes and new ideas.

I have one goal right now.  Lose one pound.  After that then I'll work on the next one.

Any takers?

Good job, guys!

I haven't given myself a proper weigh-in yet. I keep forgetting. AND yesterday my husband was off work and I totally didn't count calories. I couldn't since we went out for lunch at a place that doesn't give out nutritional info. I did count on Tuesday and worked out on Monday and Tuesday. I'm logging my calories today and feeling great! I'm hoping to get a workout in this evening.

BTW at my "informal" weigh-in (in the evening, after eating and fully clothed) I was 169. I'm also retaining water, so hopefully in a week or so that number (buck naked and first thing in the morning after peeing) will go down, lol.

Anyway, looking forward to getting to know you guys better. I really need a place to check in to keep me accountable.

WAY TO GO!!!

I have a question, girls.....what do you do when you get sick?  I dodged the flu/sinus/yuck bug going around the office for 3-4 months and then when I started eating healthy and exercising BAM! I got it!

I really don't have the energy to sit and log, then weigh and prep evrything let alone workout....HELP!

And, again way to go one pounders!

Sorry you are feeling icky!!!   I just got over that late last week....  I think all you can do is take care of yourself.  I had a good pout and then I just had to be patient.  Earlier in Nov I had strep throat, then got the crud right before Thanksgiving.  Managed to get past both those and got this last muck.  I was getting pretty frustrated.  It seems like these don't last as long now that I am healthier, so hopefully yours will pass soon and you will feel better.

This combo worked for me: I took the Musnix stuff to keep it from getting into my chest, Sudafed for sinuses and Delsym at night so I could sleep.  Those are pretty harsh, but I have asthma and didn't want to cough up a lung. (A hot toddy was really nice too) (sorry about spelling mistakes-drugs aren't in the spell check Embarassed)

Hang in there....

I really hope you feel better SOON!!!

awwwwwwwwwww sorry to hear that you are not feeling well svmom, drink plenty of fluids, warm fluids work for me. Take whatever cold medicine works for you, in Nov when l had that bad bug, l took theraflu  and benadryl at night. Chicken soup help too, throw everything in the crockpot set on low and a in few hours, the best tasting soup that you didn't have to stand watch over.

Take care of yourself and get well soon.

Chicken soup sounds good fabninia!  I agree, take what works for you....better living through pharmaceuticals :)

svmom,

Sorry you'fe feeling ill. I think Mucinex with the cough suppressant is AWESOME stuff. I took some of my kid's Mucinex cough syrup with the cough suppressant out of desparation and it worked SO well. I only took a kid's dose and it worked just fine. It really broke up the crud in my chest right away and made me stop coughing. Great stuff, wish I had found it sooner.

Zicam cold remedy (nasa gel... the edible ones are nasty.) is also great, but works best if you take it when you first get symptoms.

As for what to do, well I don't bother to work out at all when I'm sick except to do the "health bouce" on my rebounder (gently bouncing with your feet still on the mat for 2 minutes an hour to flush lymph and raise your white cell count) because I just get too tired too quickly. it's ok to have a couple maintenance days when you're sick. Take it easy and get some rest. You can pick up where you left off in a few days.

As for me, I weighed myself first thing this morning and the scale said 166, which isn't too bad! My last weigh-in before this was 160 on October 16th, and I haven't been counting calories at all since then, AND I am retaining water right now from hormones, so I'm guessing I only really gained about 3-4lbs over that time. I can live with that.

I'm back on track now and loving it. :) I can't wait to drop another pant size. I bought myself some new workout pants and some resistance bands so I'm all ready to go now :) I also have a new workout video I borrowed from my mom to try out. Maybe I'll try it tonight.

mmmmm crock-pot soup! I like to make veggie-beef soup in the crock pot. Making my mouth water just thinking about it. :) Maybe this weekend. It's pretty low-cal too!

Veggie soup rocks, Shin is fine but chicken and veggie is my fav with loads of barley and lentils. Having some for lunch :)

I dunno what way my weight is going, dont think i ever weighted myself regular before until this week and its all over the show one night its 169 the next its 171 then 2 nights later its 169, so i,m rather lost and annoyed to say the least.

decided to do it this morning and its 168........... anyone know when you should weigh yourself as its kinda hard to know if my diet is actually working after 10 days grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Robbie,

Weigh yourself in the morning before you eat or drink and after you use the bathroom. Enter your weight on your weight log here and it will show you if you're averaging a loss or gain or staying the same. The blue line on your chart is the weights you entered, and the green line shows the "trend" which is more accurate since, as you noticed, our weight fluctuates a lot.

Don't expect big results (or necessarily any) to show up on the scale after only 10 days. Many people don't see the scale move right away.

Have you used the tools here to figure out how many calories to shoot for each day?

Hi Niki I did use the site tool to get an idea or cal intake per day then added the extra exercise and set my target around 1800, I try to keep it around 1700 though as i always recon a few cals here and there are forgot about or portions a tad bigger. Will do the weigh In's at the start of the day as suggested Smilethen follow the green line

Well - the move has happened!

I'm still living out of a suitcase for the next week before I live there officially though. So hard to feel "settled in"

Found out that my current gym is spitting distance from my apartment so I can't wait to check it out *fingers crossed for good facilities!* - Bonus - cardio room in my apartment building and a gym at my new office too! NO EXCUSES!

Just have to get myself on a good menu and a good schedule.

I'm hoping by the end of this week I can get back down under 130 with a weigh in this morning of 130.4. Only 3.4 lbs away from the goal!  (Gaining almost 5 over Christmas didn't help me so much...)

Ugh for the last couple days I've gone over my goal. I blame the PMS monster. Gotta blame someone, right? Anyway, not too much over and I suppose with hormones and JUST getting back to the healthy habits I forgot about for 3 months, it should be expected that I would have a couple bumps. I'm not beating myself up. I still logged my food, to my shame, but it helps me not just eat everything else in the house since I already blew it. I do better when I can see the number.

Yah - can't beat yourself up over it nikidust - because bumps happen!

I too am shamed by my eating yesterday. I look back and realize I ate a lindor chocolate, a scone, some pringles, 2 homemade oatmeal cookies (yum) and none of them were a part of my "plan" yesterday.

However the scale didn't budge so at least I wasn't punished by an increase this morning. Today will be better.

You all rock!!!!  No shame!  No guilt trips!  You were just getting ready for your next power surge.

I was estrogen challenged this week too and it wasn't pretty.

I stepped on the scale this morning and it dimmed out and died-->never a good sign. LOL

I did go climbing Monday and did a really good ab workout and that was great.  My stomach is still a bit sore, but in a good way.  I too can have tight abs.  I was beginning to wonder if there were any muscles in my midsection.

Got the scale going again.  I went the wrong direction on weight though, up to 175.2. Ouch.  I think this is water weight from TTOM.  What a crazy maker.  Like you said nikidust, it's about the trend.

***sigh****

How are the new digs jef9up?

LOL, just heard a nice little clip on the radio: "..most people who die of heart attacks have no warning"  no kidding....

Have a good weekend all!

Helloooooo?

How was everyone's weekend?

Svmom, are you feeling better?

I did a hike yesterday that was very nice, a bit sore today, but that tells me I just need to get out more.

Hello One Pounders,

This is my first time on forums.  My goal is one pound at a time, so this forum is perfect for me.  I need to get healthy and stop eating so badly.  It doesn't help that I love wine and chocolate.  I quit smoking 4 weeks ago and feel proud of myself.  I feel great that I finally reached that goal in my life. Smile I'm using Chantix and it has been a miricle pill, plus I go to meetings.   Now, the weight has got to go!!!Yell

I am 44, been married for 25 yrs. and have two kids.  One 13 (girl) and 17 (boy).  I want to cook healthier for all of us, and eat healthier foods.

I will be back tomarrow, I just wanted to say hi.

Welcome tym2bhealthy!  Congratulations on being able to quit smoking!!!  Fantastic!

From what I've been told you've done the hardest thing first...

Hi everyone, my name is Peggy and I am 46 years old. I am not new to calorie count. I gave it a try last Jan. and kind of stopped after Mar. Didn't last long but I am ready to give it a try again.

I would really love to join you all on your weight loss journey. I am very obese and need to take baby steps, so 1 pound a week sounds like a great plan.

I will post my weight tomorrow night and every Wed. afterward.

Good luck to everyone.

Thanks for joining us!

Please count me in! I am new to CC and learning my way around, trying to find groups and writing in my journel in hopes of actually finding a couple people to virtually lean on to for support.

The weight loss journey is not new for me, although this will be my first attempt at it with my husband joining in the process....we have been "happily" married for almost 6 years now and I say happily because we both packed on some considerable weight since our wedding day.  I have put on about 45lbs and he has put on around 60lbs.  My excuse is 2 children and I'm not sure what his is since I'm not exactly Betty Crocker or anything, but hey! It's where we are in life right now.

I joined this site about 2 weeks ago and have lost 6 lbs so far. My husband, who is just doing this on his own, is down 12lbs to date. I am happy for both of us and don't want us to "stall out" or gain it back.  While 1lbs a week seems slow, I need to realize that is healthy and that 1 pound is better then no pounds.  With it being that time of the month, I am choosing to skip my weekly weigh in this week and just wait until next to do it, so I guess my goal by next Friday would be 2lbs.

Please feel free to read my journal or drop me a message, I would love to hear from you.  I am particularly interested in any easy recipes anyone has. I'm a basic person and not super talented in the kitchen, so the simplier the better.  Likewise, I would be happy to share back with you.  I have the greatest recipe for taco pizza that I would love to share with you all right now. It's about 300 calories a slice with all the goodies, but a very "heavy" meal that comes across as very filling, a nice change vs. all the salads I have been eating lately. I try to skip my afternoon snack on these days so I can get 2 slices in for dinner and I'm stuffed.

Any 12" pizza crust homemade or store bought (I buy mine, but check the calories close...I'm amazed in the variation with this!)

1/2 can refried beans (I do fat free, but again, your choice)

1/2 hamburger meat browned

1/3 jar pizza sauce (I use Ragu and actually usually use less, but I'm not a huge sauce person. Could sub this out for salsa or taco sauce if you like a little different flavor)

Shredded cheese of your choice (I use about 1/4 cup or mexican cheese)

Any desired goodies to top.....I use lettuce, tomato, black olive and sour cream. Other ideas include onion, taco sauce or salsa, guacomole, etc...whatever floats your boat really!

I cook my crust for 5 minutes first at 425 degrees.  Pull it out and spread refried beans, sauce, browned hamburger meat and cheese. Put back in the oven for 10-12 minutes, until cheese is bubbly.  When done, pull from oven, add toppings and go for it!  The beans really make this a filling meal. If you get all fat free items and really watch your cheese, it can be as low as 225 calories a slice.  You could also replace the hamburger meat with chicken too.

There is enough variety there to make a couple different meals and its definately a favorite of my husband and I's right now. I hope you enjoy it too! I look forward to sharing more recipes with you.
