Online school is killing me...literally.
So, I'm a junior in HS. I decided I wanted more flexibility and better classes so I opted for free public online school.
BIG MISTAKE.
I think I chose the wrong school...They preached and preached about how flexible they were, how you could go at your own pace and all that jazz. They lied to me. I'm taking quite a few classes, and sometimes with my schedule I can't do any lessons or very few a day...Like 2 or 3. Then on days when I can do a lot, I do. 10+ lessons. I've been getting harassed by them on the phone saying that I'm not completing enough stuff! I have to do at least 6 lessons a day, otherwise they label you as truant. Real flexible, eh? If I get 30 hours or lessons in a week, I don't think it should matter on which days I do them.
They gave me as computer and a printer to use for my schooling. Ha. That computer is piece of crap! Not that it has to be all great, but it's slower than molasses in winter, and just now I had to download a photo editing thing to MY personal laptop because I can't get my photos on the school's comp because it doesn't have a port! And it has no way to import them! Ugh. And the printer they gave me is a piece of crap too. Half the time it doesn't even work.
Anyways, then I was enrolled in AP World History...Well, being that it's an AP class, it's more work, and this was the one class that DIDN'T have an online textbook, and mine was like, a month late :(( So, I decided that I didn't want to work at 5 different weeks at the same time, so I didn't do anything until I got my book. And because I was so behind, they dropped me from that class! Was not my fault, dumb****.
Now they're getting pissed off at me for not going at their pace...Wow. I so regret doing this. I thought that this would be beneficial to me. It's so not. It's slowly killing me with all this stress.
I'm switching. I'm ****ing done with this piece of **** school. Come next semester, I am gone.
That's my rant. Don't ever, ever go or send your child to Connections Academy unless you want problems.
I was actually considering Connections Academy for my daughter next year. That wouldn't work for her at all. She has some medical issues and there are days she can not function. On the days she can, she gets several days worth of work accomplished.
Thanks for sharing!

augustnkate, from a student's prospective, I definitely would not enroll her into Connections. It's just not very flexible and I definitely think think she deserves better than CA. What grade is your daughter in?
Oh wow. That's ridiculous. Really sounds like they weren't straight-forward with you about what they would consider attendance.
I'm taking online college classes this semester to be able to continue to work full-time. I have about 3 days a week where I can devote about five hours to classses and that might be it for the week, but then that's it. All of classes have varying levels of what they consider "attendance," but the most rigorous is still only logging on three times a week.
Good luck!

She's going into 5th grade. She has to have flexible and that's why I already home school her. There are a few universities that offer online courses once she is in 8th grade and above. They are expensive, but she will get a real diploma and is able to start college credits. I was just hoping for something for 5-8 to get her started in that direction. No CA for her!
