only 850- 950 calories a day..I can't eat more
(Okay So It has been suggested that I post this in this forum because my issue better relates to this group - this post is also in the General weight loss forum) thanks!
I need help, I feel that I eat so much- I even eat when I'm not hungry! I Just always munch on veggies and fruits- all day at work in my chair- I LOVE my baby carrots. I could eat them all day. But because I have adjusted to this kind of lifestyle- I just don't get the "daily recommended calories needed" for my age/height/weight. I don't eat fast food- I don't even eat subway- it doesn't seem appealing to me anymore
The veggies just keep me satisfied- I eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. I feel so pure and clean and I love giving my body 'real food' that humans were meant to eat
I count my calories and I only get 850-950 a day. I seriously can't eat more. I combine my main course meals like this: protein/carbs/fat - example: Salmon and a veggie platter and some fruit could be my dinner one night.
Some times I even go under 800 according to calorie-count- but its just because the foods i happen to eat that day are low calories ones. In February I started a mission to lose weight- I was determined! I basically only eat meat (fish (alot of salmon), beef, chicken, turkey, etc.), veggies (no corn, or beans), fruit (I eat all kinds- LOVE my tropical fruit), cottage cheese, nuts (only peacans and walnuts), eggs (hardly), and 1 serving of bread a day (1 slice of weight watchers bread (55 cals/9g Carb) or a half slice of regular bread (works out to be able 53 cals and 8g carbs)
I stopped getting my period since i started this mission in February- but I kind of always had a menstrual problem- this past year I only got my period twice- and before that I would only get my period every 3-4 months.
I am 21 years old, 5'1 , maybe i'm 115-117lbs- I used to be 145-150 lbs. What do I do? I'm afraid to eat any meals that I dont prepare my self- and I eat my one serving of bread in the morning with fruit. What do I do?
Reason: Promotion of starvation diets or habits that exhibit signs of an eating disorder ("pro-ana", "pro-mia", etc.) is prohibited.
u can eat more..... like why are u eating weightwatchers bread if u want to consume more cals? eat a slice of normal bread. stop fillin up on watery veg and fruit.
like this is stupid u are claiming to not be able to eat more but u are doing everything u can to NOT eat more....
ur 1 serving of bread?? why can u only have 1 serving? this is stupid. u keep this up and u def will come out with an eatin disorder.
judging by the above post ur on ur way. if u want to eat more eat more. simple as that. stop using diet products and start eating the denser veg like corn and beans.... ur being the creator of ur own prob.
so many ppl here have ben thru the pain of ed's... if u want to stop this developing. stop it now. ignore this advice at ur own peril

As determined as you were to loose the weight, you need to be that determined to eat right. That's fine that you don't want to eat fast food or anything you don't prepare yourself, but you still need to be eating enough of the healthy stuff.
Start slowly, eat an extra 100 calories a day. Have a slice of bread with ham or turkey, and start substituting some of your fruits and veggies with whole grains and protein.
You need to eat more. A minimum of 1200 calories for a sedentary adult woman, 1500 for a sedentary teenage woman. You are not hungry because your body/brain has adjusted to the lower calorie intake and isn't sending you the signals or you're used to ignoring them. The odd day or two happens to us all because we're sick or too busy to eat or some other happenstance, but a continuing diet with so few calories is detrimental to your health.
Ditch the low calorie items and you will probably bump right up to where you need to be or close to it. Add a serving of whole grain brown or wild rice to your lunch and dinner or whole grain noodles. Use a bit of olive oil on your salad, but get to the minimum calorie intake. Eat the baby carrots after you've already had your balanced and nutritious meal.
Please know that Calorie Count cannot and will not support you eating less than 1200 calories a day. We consider this unhealthy and CC is all about HEALTHY weight loss or weight maintenance
From Mary Hartley, Calorie Count's Director of Nutrition: "By eating only 800 calories, you will not get enough energy, protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals and other components of food. In time, you could become malnourished, which can cause severe health risks such as respiratory infections, kidney failure, blindness, heart attack and even death."
Here is a brief reason why never less than 1200 from the Advice section of Calorie Count Plus, under the Q&A tab:
Why must I eat at least 1,200 calories a day when I want to eat less?
In order to get the daily food servings you need for a balanced diet, it takes about 1200 calories a day. With careful planning, you could have a balanced diet on 1000 calories, but the restrictiveness of a very low calorie level can lead to binging and weight cycling, which will take you further from your weight loss goal. What's more, very low calorie diets can cause excessive muscle breakdown and metabolic adaptations, which can drive down your calorie requirements. In the end, you'll need fewer calories to maintain a higher weight
Your body needs at least 1200 calories per day to survive.
Here is a very rough scientific break down provided by a dietician for a 5' 2", 19 year old female weighing approximately 100 pounds, sitting around all day and doing nothing:
-The heart needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The kidney needs 12% of the calories (144 cals)
-The Liver needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The brain needs 23% of the calories (276 cals)
-The skeletal muscle needs 30% of the calories (360 cals)

You get angry VERY easily. You don't have to attack her. Nothing positive comes of name calling. Tell her what she needs to know but do you really need to insult her?! NO. Please keep in mind that although you don't have any inhibitions while behind a computer screen and keyboard your words and attitude still ffect people in the same way. I really doubt that you go around calling people stupid and yelling at them all day. Just chill and be more productive, please.
Have you ever heard of a condition called orthorexia? Look it up... you say "The veggies just keep me satisfied- I eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. I feel so pure and clean and I love giving my body 'real food' that humans were meant to eat" and "I'm afraid to eat any meals that I dont prepare my self- and I eat my one serving of bread in the morning with fruit. What do I do?" but the cold hard facts are that you are starving yourself. If you are able to eat one piece of bread in a day there is nothing PHYSICALLY stopping you from eating two instead, or adding more protein and increasing your intake of higher-calorie foods. There are plenty of 'natural' foods that are nourishing and healthy as well.
I agree with the food suggestions here. I'm suffering from severe stress that has taken away my own appetite. To adjust, I've switched to eating calorie dense foods and added meal replacements to fill in the gaps.
I've skipped a lot of the raw veggies, soups and beans in favor of starchy veggies, juices and low fat yoghurt (instead of fat free). For this reason, I have to add a fiber supplement.
I've always eaten a high fiber, high calorie bread-you have no reason to eat that WW stuff. Oroweat makes breads without the HFCS.
Think of this as a treatment phase. I'm going to discontinue the meal replacements as soon as I'm able to eat on my own.
Your post says you like nuts. Why won't you eat almonds? They are higher in calories and they are good calories = energy. Walnuts are more calories and fat and don't have the good fats in them. Plus you didn't mention milk. Drink milk. It adds calories and it also gives you protien, calcium and vitamin d. You are refusing to eat healthy stuff. What is wrong with beans? They are a high fiber good protien source. I know you can come up with healthy alternatives to increase your calorie intake to reach the recomended 1200 a day. I have a hard time with it too but I have found creative ways to add calories that doesn't make me feel guilty.
I think you should visit the web site on orthorexia. its www.orthorexia.com.
there is a good definetion and it sounds like what you described.
Actually walnuts do have good fats, they are loaded with omega-three, and though calorically dense, they are excellent for you
I understand and feel for you, my husband has no interest in food either. He is older than me and I am 37 and food has always been a struggle. His mom said he was always like that. He is now drinking a supplement. What about trying ensure or boost? If you cannot get yourself to do a calorie drink, than try to stretch you stomach slowly with a little extra food everyday or even every week. Just continue to work at it.
I can understand about the fear of taking in extra calories. I was a low calorie eater all my life, so I understand once you start gaining weight the fear is very real. It also does not help that we live in a society that shows unhealthy underweight models everywhere being defined as to what pretty is. We all want to be pretty and loved so I think for many of us it is so much easier to be self destructive than take care of ourselves. I would strongly recommend hiding the scale for a month or two while your body has the time to adjust to the extra calories.
Someone you age should be getting at least 1400 calories and if you cannot do it on your own, than please get help from a doctor. When I was younger I caused permanent problems to my heart by doing what you are doing. The good news is, you are young and it will be easy for you to readjust your metabolism, once your body adjusts to the extra calories, exercise is all you will need to keep your cute body, maybe even easier with the increased calories. Just hide the scale, and give it time.
Michelleoly& - Thank you for saying that to the original poster. I thought the same thing. This site is supposed to be for encouraging people, not tearing them down. Bravo and nicely said! -Susan
I second that! We are here on this website for help and encouragement. Good Luck Sar05. You DO need to get some whole grains girl.

Meh. Somebody had to say it. She wasn't calling the OP stupid, she was saying that eating low cal bread when you know you should eat more calories is stupid. Fair enough I say.
for a start theres no point eating carrots if your hungry you need carbs , you can eat more , it may be hard but you can , for example you could eat rucks and rucks of carrots to get the same calories as a carbohydrate snack, you are eating the wrong think eat carrots by all means but eat then after youve eaten the other stuff h x
why oh why oh why do ppl foolishly open posts that are a year old? seriously this is stttuuuuuupid.

Guys, being a newbie, elliemae probably didn't realize that she was resurrecting an old post.
ellie,
There are small things you can do to raise your calories without adding a significant amount of food and without eating junk all day. a spoon full of peanut butter does nicely. Try eating a handfull of almonds. When you cook your veggies, cook them in a bit of olive oil. Olive oil is a good kind of fat. So are avocados. You could add avocados to your salad. Heck, you could use regular dressing on your salad instead of the lowfat version. The same goes for dairy and cheeses. All you have to do is alter the things you eat now just slightly and you'd be surprised how the calories can add up to help you get to your required minimum.
good luck!
LOL don't bs us. It's not that hard to go to 1200. Just grab a bag of cookie. It doesn't fill you up at all and it'll get you over 1200. Or grab some fruits. 1 banana's like 120 calories. Go get some yogurt 190 calories.
Come on now. It's an excuse to say you can't eat over 800-900 calories. You just don't want to. even if you aren't full you can eat hahaha.
OK, I realise this is an old post, but given it's been resurrected by yet another poster who fails to follow the posting guidelines, I still think it should be locked or at least moderated.
