Only dieters/EDs binge?

Quote  |  Reply

I'm not sure if this post makes sense or if theres ANY point in it. But I kinda had to let these thoughts loose, so bare with me!

But maybe only ED's/dieters "binge".

I remember being a kid (weight was never an issue or care in my mind) and eating the entire box of cereal, cookies or jumbo bag of chips at once or in a day. But I never considered it a binge, or myself a "binger".

But if I did that nowadays, I'd definitely call it a binge. Several thousand cals worth of cereal/cookies, etc

But is it really a binge? Or is it all perspective?

So maybe "normal" people DO binge, but they just don't call it a "binge". I mean why should they, they don't feel guilty and don't give a second thought about it.

But we dwell over it, feel guilty, restrict and label ourselves.
So I guess all that advice about "if you binge, just try and eat the next meal normal" is 'non-dieter/normal' person advice.

I guess I only think a binge is really a binge when the person eats till they are sickly full (out of control) and practically throw up. Its not necessarily several thousand calories of guilt is it?

But I guess at the end of the day, its all perspective and what your definition of a binge is. Dieters "binge" more often than "normal people" only because they classify any excess as binging while normal people just don't care.

Sorry, does this make any sense at all? What are your thoughts?

Ack eek I posted & typed this TWICE.... cause I thought the first one disappeared on me! It said it wasn't posted......

sorry.... bear with me

I don't know, but I really hate that term. Maybe because it DOES make me feel guilty? I never call anything a binge. I've eaten entire bags (I mean, FAMILY SIZE bags) of potato chips and never called it a binge. Then people on here eat three cookies and are like: "OMGZ! HALP! BINGE!" and I want to say: "Seriously?!"

I think you might be on to something. When I eat those potato chips I know I shouldn't have, but I don't think about it beyond "Wow, you feel like crap, don't do that again!" Three cookies wouldn't even warrant that. That's a large dessert, lol!

But I think that advice still holds. You have to get back to normal. You can't just validate your guilty thoughts this way, as something "normal people" can't understand. Maybe we can't understand it, but the answer is obvious. You have to stop feeling guilty and start exercising self control.
