Only eaten 900 cals - any yummy suggestions?

Quote  |  Reply

Okay, so I feel terribly stuffed. I've only eaten 900 calories today, and it's just past 8:30pm. I planned to have mac & cheese for dinner, but I ended up having a late lunch around 5:30pm and I am insanely full... and a bit bloated. My calorie goal is 1,200.

Any suggestions on something light to snack on before bed, that won't make me extra bloated? (veggies are out - they are a gas problem lol) I'm already over my allotted fat grams too, so preferably low fat.

Thanks for anyone to tries to help me. haha Yeah.. keyword... "try". Wink

Fiber One mixed with strawberry or vanilla yogurt and cinnamon!! YUM!

What about just a yummy bag of munchie popcorn to eat while studying/watching a movie?

How about some whole wheat toast with a sliced banana and some fruit preserves?

Clif Zbars are low fat, so are reduced-fat triscuits, pretzels, yogurt, cereal, etc. I'm guessing you're going to be stuck with fruit, grains, or low-fat dairy.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I ended up with opening some Libby's canned pumpkin, adding some spices, and eating that. Brought me right up to 1,200. I really wish I had some honey graham crackers now. Man, it'd go perfect! LOL

First off, your goal is WAY too low. Your body is in STARVATION mode. You're losing weight becuase your body is burning your muscle to survive. Bump your cals up to at least 1400, preferably 1500. What are your stats? Age, current weight, activity level?

*sighs* People love to throw that starvation mode crap around every chance they get. Sometimes it's true, but not for me. I'm 24 and 5'1". My maintenance is 1,400-1,500 calories.. and I know this for fact from my own experimentation. So no.. I am not starving and increasing calories would get me nowhere. Thanks for the concern though. And just to make you feel better, I do eat back my exercise calories, so on more active days I eat up to 1,400.

right except, i didn't need a website to tell me 1200 was starvation mode. I'm friends with a dietician who works at a hospital and deals with people who have undereating-overeating problems on a daily basis. she went to college and has a degree in her field. She's also working on her masters. Honestly, listen when people talk to you about this. Im glad you dont do it every day but you shouldn't do it at all.

Yeah the starvation mode thing is tired. At 5'1, she is not in starvation mode at 1200 calories. I have a good friend with a degree in nutrition as well, and 1200 is not a red flag number to her.

i didn't mean to make it sound like the end of all things. its good that she doesn't do this on the days she works out. however...i still wouldnt drop that low even on days when she doesnt work out. im not saying eat 1500 all the time, but maybe just 1300 on off days.

Sorry if we're having a misunderstanding. I just don't think that there's anything wrong with 1200 calories per day for someone of that height. The problem (IMO) is when people aim for 1200 calories a day, but don't eat the extra 100 when they're only at 1100. Personally, I lost weight on 1200-1250 calories, and when I went to maintenance, I didn't gain a single pound back. So it seems that 1200 does work fine for some.

Have a yogurt and load it with some granola!

That's what I just did! Some peak protein bear naked, pecans, & dannon pomegrante berry yogurt. Yum!

i think tblover's advice is really legitimate, especially if you want to maintain a healthy metabolism long-term.  its really important to keep yourself eating well, because your metabolism doesn't get faster as you age.  you really have to work on keeping it up by eating enough on non-workout days, because you don't want eating too little catch up with you before you hit 30.

I really don't understand why "educated" people are lecturing ezzied when there is nothing wrong with her calorie intake. I am 5'2'', and my recommended weight loss calorie intake is 1,200 calories. This recommedation comes from my personal UPMC nutritionist, my college's Sodexo nutritionist, and this website (which shouldn't be knocked -- since a lot of experts do put work into this). Peoples' bodies are simply different and a person of that stature must, unfortunately, eat less than others. It should not effect her metabolism.

Goodness. I didn't intend on any arguments, I only asked for snack ideas. LOL

Everybody's metabolism is different. From shorties to the luckier tall people. Whether ya got hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, extra muscle, no muscle... or any other medical issues that contribute to weight problems,  there is no "one" magic number. 1,200 is not magic - eating over or under will not throw you into "starvation mode" (and I use that term very loosely). That's a unique number all by itself depending on what your own body requires. Someone could be "starving" on 1,500.

Don't forget even if you fall short a few hundred calories today you can add a couple hundred tomorrow.  It keeps the body guessing.  Just don't sustain *900 calories for a few days.  Sometimes you don't feel like eating, that's that.  Make it up tomorrow by eating 1400 instead of 1200 and 1300 the next day.
