Is it only me?

Quote  |  Reply

I don't think a day goes by without someone posting: OMG I LOVE THESE "insert some name" {energy, meal replacement, fiber, protein} bars. Anyone else prefers real food to those bars as a snack, or whatenot or is it just me? Don't get me wrong I eat cliff bars, energy gells, consume energy drinks on my various training rides (depends on distance, intesity etc) because they are convenient. So I am not some kind of all organic, etc cruisader, but given a choice I would rather have real food.

P.S. Nothing hits a spot like a potato two hours in to 3-4 hour ride in miserable weather. :)

I really like Nak'd, Trek and Larabars. Why? Well, they do taste good, they're all natural, but, largely? Because I'm on a high calorie gainer's diet and thus they can be a lifesaver. D; To some, that high-cal low density "issue" is a good thing, hah. Truthfully I would much rather have food, but with the amount I have to eat, it's not always the best idea.

I agree with Lala. I love Nak'd, Trek and Larabars because they are an easy way of getting in calories when the equivalent would be more a small meal than a snack. Also on a gainers diet. But I'd never have one for breakfast, I'd always have proper meals for main dishes.

How do you eat a potato two hours into a training ride? (more like, how do you carry it with you? I'm taking it that you're talking about cycling?)

Yes. I carry them in the jersery pocket, and potatoes are smallish. About couple bites worth.
