If only I could.....

Quote  |  Reply

If only I could just stop getting on that darn scale every single day, sometimes even 3 or 4 times a day. I have seen so many posts of people saying that they don't even get on the scale but once a week or every so often.  When will I take on that type of attitude?

Why is it that I care so much about the scale? So I guess I wrote this topic to vent a little because I am angry at my self for caring about numbers on a scale. Tell me, am I setting my self up for failure by worrying about numbers on the scale? Do you think that mentally and physically, I would have better weight loss success if I just stop worrying about loosing weight and numbers on the scale and start just trying to be healthy?

Well, we don't know a whole lot about you.  I, at least, don't know how tall you are, how old you are, how much you weigh and how much you'd like to weigh, how long you've been at this and how much you're eating and exercising every day.  These little bits of information can tell a lot about a person.  You may not be losing weight 'cause there's nothing left to lose, you may be doing something slightly wrong, you may just not be losing 'cause you're too stressed about it.

I do think getting on the scale three or four times a day can be discouraging.  If you weigh yourself in the morning before eating or drinking or exercising at all, you'll probably weigh less than you would later in the day after you've had breakfast and a morning jog.  Seeing the numbers rise during the day can get discouraging.

It's interesting to get on the scale every day and wait to see those numbers go down.  It's exciting.  But when a long time has passed and the excitement doesn't come 'cause the numbers aren't going down, it's more of a pain in the ass and you're likely to get down about yourself and lack of progress.  Step on the scale in the mornings.  Try going one day a week without stepping on it at all.  Then two days, and three days even.

One day you'll hop on the scale and think, "Oh damn, another day, another pound I didn't lose.." and you'll just about faint when you see you've lost two pounds.

Patience is the key.

Maybe while you're developing patience with yourself, focus on being healthy.  Eating better, exercising a bit, feeling good about yourself not just about your weight, but about all of your positive attributes.  Maybe then the numbers on the scale won't matter as much.

I am right there with you! I step'd on the scale up to 25x in a day-- i counted once-- it got to the point where it dictated my mood for the entire day! My family took it away eventually-- and I used the one at the gym.

ugh

here's what i've finally learned-- weight can change minute to minute based on what you drink, eat, how much urine your holding, etc... so, it doesn't make sense to weigh yourself 100x a day!

take measurements-- it's a better indicator-- or use a pair of pants that used to fit or new ones that you want to fit into-- those tell you more than the scale.

if you need to-- weigh yourself once a day-- after your morning business -- and that keeps you going!!!

i'm right there with you-- but overcome it! You can!

I think cd makes some excellent points...............

thank you, everyone. that's what I have come to learn that go by how I feel cause that is a better indicator. I weighed this morning so I am going to try my best to not to weigh myself no more until next Wednesday. wish me luck...lol...

im with you with the scale thing...................everyday all day

I think it's important to find out how much a person's weight fluctuates during the course of a single day. And like you, I've been there...on the scale many times throughout the day. But I was becoming a headcase about it so I finally took my scale and stuck it on a high shelf in a room I hardly go into.  That way I don't see it every time I go into the bathroom.

I like knowing that my weight jumps around up to 5 lbs during the day so it helps me know what times are best to weigh in, what foods and clothes are the "heaviest" and now armed with that information, I can be more educated.

Just turn it around. Use the scale, don't let it use you!

i had the same problem. then my scale stopped working. it keeps saying low..i think its the battery.

only weigh yourself in the morning! and try to only do it once a week.

it takes at least a week to lose a pound usually.
