Why am i the only one who is ALWAYS hungry?

Quote  |  Reply

It feels like the only time when I'm full is when I eat junk food!

I eat my breakfast at around 5:30 and by the time I get to school at 7 I'm starving, so I'll have my snack and it doesn't satisfy my hunger at all.  Same thing with lunch. By the time I get home my head is spinning from hunger which leads me to binge. I've binged everyday for the past week. I'm trying not to today, but its very hard because I'm starving even though i just had dinner.

I know i'm not thirsty because I drink tons of water.

I tried eating more and it just doesnt work. I dont know what to do anymore.

What does a typical day of eating look like for you? Maybe it is your food choices. How many calories are you having and what are your stats?

Typically its something like

B: 1/2 cup of oatmeal or cereal with an apple or banana

S: protein bar

L: turkey on whole wheat bread, a yogurt and almonds

S: carrots

D: chicken or veggie burger w/ vegetables

I'm 15, 5'4 and around 140. I havent counted my calories today but I'd say its somewhere around 1200.

Ok, well the foods you are eating seem to be good but you are not eating enough!!! You are 15! You should definitely be eating much more than 1200 calories. That is the minimum to survive for a full grown adult. And even  then it is too little.

Try adding something else to your breakfast and lunch so you do not come home ravenous and so you are upping your calories too. And bring another snack to school. I know for me, binging happens when I restrict too much, which is what you are kind of doing. You are still growing and need more fuel for your body. You should probably be taking in 2000+ calories. Try using the tools on this site if you haven't already.

I hope this helps somewhat! :)

1500 would be the absolute bare minimum calorie-intake for a completely sedentary teen - one that rolls out of bed onto the sofa and back again each day - so you're undereating pretty badly and that has to stop before you do yourself some serious damage.  You need between 2240 and 2600 cals a day to maintain your current weight, assuming you're a normally active teenager.  If you were very active you'd need more than that.

To lose weight, rather than crash-dieting (which is stupid and dangerous) try to get a better diet of good quality foods, drink plenty of fluids, eat/snack regularly and be as active as possible. If you were going to calorie-count, aim for around 1900 a day.... but only do that as a last resort

As other pointed out, you're not eating enough overall.  Also, your breakfast has almost no protein or fat, and your afternoon snack is very low calorie, with no protein or fat. Dinner has virtually no fat as well.  Lunch looks balanced & great though - I bet that keeps you a lot more satisfied.

I'd definitely add more food to your breakfast, afternoon snack, and dinner, and make sure to eat some protein & fat at all your meals.

Also, you may find "real food" more satisfying than a protein bar - if you need something that's portably & easy to eat quickly, you could try a PB&J on one slice of whole wheat bread, a yogurt with a piece of fruit or granola, trail mix, crackers with PB or hummus, a sliced apple with cheese, etc. I don't think a protein bar once a day is a bad choice, but you might want to just try something else to see if it's more satisfying for you.

Thanks :D
