Are YOU the only vegetarian you know?

Is anyone in the same situation I am? I'm the only vegetarian I know, as matter of fact I'm the only vegetarian I've ever known (at least in my state.) Do you guys find this cool or weird? It doesn't bother me or anything but it'd be nice to meet folks in real life who don't think vegetarianism is wacked up.

My husband and I are living in his hometown right now, which is a small town in Texas... so here, YES, I am for sure the only vegan that I know. I am a total oddity here, haha.

At home (Boston area), no way. I have 3 good friends who are all vegan, 2 vegetarian cousins, and I think 5 or 6 vegetarian friends.

Yeah it's the same in good old Colorado haha. I've actually never met a vegan in real life PERIOD. I know someone who was once almost vegan but then moved here to Colorado and started eating fish and chicken. I don't eat eggs and I only drink/ eat vanilla soy milk, soy yogurt, veggie cheese, etc. I'd like to become vegan someday but for now I'm happy being a vegetarian.

I do have one cousin in San Francisco and another in Austin, Texas who are vegetarians. Or at least they were the last time I saw them when I was really little.
We live just over an hour from Austin, it would be such an easy city to be vegan in! Vegan cafes, bakeries, all the good stuff. Thankfully in the small town I live in there is a small natural foods store, but they don't usually have much.

Wow who would have known. I've always heard that people from Texas are BIG meat eaters. I remember going to Austin when I was 9. I was surprised to see that my cousins had grown up to be hippies. I don't mean that as a bad thing, they actually are real hippies. But so was my uncle, he went to Woodstock and everything
yep...i'm all alone. the only other vege i have known went away to college but i am not bothered by it. yes i meet resistance from family and friends every once  and a while but it is my choice so they can think what they want.

Oh heck no I'm not alone!  My husband is vegetarian, in fact when I met him almost 15 years ago, he was the veg and I was only about halfway there.  And I have a couple of close friends who are veg or vegan and one who is also working her way there.  But then, I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Re: Texas.  The last time I was in Texas, I had to explain that I was a weirdo from California, can you bring me something without meat?

Native Texans feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but Austin sees to be a total anomaly. Their unofficial city motto is "Keep Austin Weird". It's such a fun city.

Yeah I remember my cousins saying that lol. And once when one of them sent me an e-mail, they said that it was really liberal compared to the rest of the state.
I think I'm the only vegan I know. My friend was a 'vegetarian' but she ate chicken if it was 'really good'. lol. There's another girl that I know but she's an ex girlfriend of my boyfriend's friend so it's a bit convoluted.
My closest friend has been lacto-ovo vegetarian for years, and my other close friend was vegetarian years ago and is currently avoiding fish because of environmental concerns : she's also very supportive. They've really been encouraging.:)

I live in Calgary, Canada, which is a relatively conservative city in a progressive country.
Yep, I'm the only vegan I know. I know of a couple loose vegetarians, they eat meat occasionally or only some meats...No complete weird hippies like me around! I'm sure I'll have to come across one soon, I go to a uni with 50,000 students!
Oh yeah, meganr...theres definitely sooo many vegans in San Fran. It's a huge trend/ fad in CA right now.

my boyfriend is vegetarian, and a bunch of my friends.

on a totally unrelated note, i LOVE LOVE LOVE austin. i'm applying to ut next year (:

I know alot of people have tried vegetarianism for, like, a week.

But another actual vegetarian?  Only one.

I think its totally cool to be the only vegetarian.

I'm totally not alone. When I became vegetarian there were about 5 other vegetarains I knew and they completely supported me. I thought it was awesome that I had ppl just like me.

I am surrounded by vegetarians! It's awesome, but there's always one of us who is like, you're eating WHAT? It's good, and it makes me stay on my toes, but it's frustrating at times, too.
i'm the only vegetarian i know. my family worries about the whole protein thing but they don't bug me too often about it.  only problem is that sometimes it's hard to find something on the menu when we go out to eat together.   not many restuarants around here have much of anything for vegetarian (let alone vegan) options so i'm guessing the vegetarian/vegan population is small.

lawlz, i'd say 35% of my friends are vegetarian. ^_^

My boyfriend is vegetarian, as are several of my close friends. I have two vegan friends, but one of them has fallen off the wagon recently due to B12 deficiency and other medical problems. I also know loads of pescetarians, on-off vegetarians, and other people who don't fit a particular label.

Even my dad has considered becoming vegetarian at age 63. I think he's slightly uncomfortable with the idea of eating animals, unfortunately he's also very traditional in his eating habits, and my mum (anti-veggie)does all his cooking, so I'm not sure he really has the motivation to change, but at least he is sympathetic!
