Are YOU the only vegetarian you know?
Is anyone in the same situation I am? I'm the only vegetarian I know, as matter of fact I'm the only vegetarian I've ever known (at least in my state.) Do you guys find this cool or weird? It doesn't bother me or anything but it'd be nice to meet folks in real life who don't think vegetarianism is wacked up.
I'm in Utah and I've been a vegetarian for about 15 years. Back then, there weren't many of us around here, but now it's pretty amazing. There seem to be a lot more of us, many of the restaurants have vegetarian or vegan meals, there are lots of health food type stores, etc. Among my family and friends, I'm pretty much the only vegetarian, but I have quite a few acquaintances that are. At my office, I am the ONLY vegetarian, and whenever there's a luncheon or something, they forget me. And NO, you CANNOT just "pick the meat off" the sandwich or whatever.
I live in Alabama, and my boyfriend likes to say that Im the only vegetarian in the south. I hate ordering at restaurants, ya know telling them no meat. They don't get it. They look at me like Im insane. SO maybe I am the only veg. they have ever met also. My friends and family so far deal/respect my decision. Ive been vegetarian since Jan. 1, 08. My boyfriend has even began to stop eating certain meats, and started eating more veggies.
I don't care if people think it's odd, I feel GREAT!
I am the only vegetarian I know other than a few Indian kids....But it is all in their culture and they were raised that way.
I am vegetarian as of today...FINALLY!
My husband and I moved to France 6 years ago and I am now the only vegetarian I know around these parts... being vegetarian in France is proving to be an absolute nightmare as nowhere caters for this diet. I have been a vegetarian for over 20 so there is absolutely no way I can start eating meat again.
Result- I am now seriously overweight! Argh!
Maybe the answer is move back to England to lose all the weight again?
I am a vegetarian ... and so is most of my family ..... but then again in India its pretty common ...... and dont worry about getting ur nutrition ..... most vegetarians ((from a primarily non-vegetarian country)) eat salads and boiled stuff... but there's so much variety which sadly people hardly know about ....
I am lucky to live in a community where there are lots of Seventh Day Adventists, so vegetarianism is pretty normal here. Most restaurants will have decent vegetarian options and we've got some awesome groceries ... they have hundreds of meat substitutes that I never knew existed! Fake hot dogs in a can! Fake duck! I've actually never tried most of them, but it's reassuring to know that if I ever crave some meatless duck, I can get it anytime, except Saturday.
Besides myself we have one other veg in my family. My one cousin is 19 and has been one since she was 3 years old. Besides the two of us, no one else is vegetarian. I have no vegetarian friends either. I know one strict vegan and that is it. I feel like there should be more of us in my area, but I haven't met them yet lol. I mean I've never had any trouble ordering vegetarian foods while dinning out and there are a few organic/health food stores with TONS of vegetarian options in my area. Also our major grocery stores have fabulous vegetarian selections. There's even an upscale vegan restaurant 30 minutes north of me that is awesome!
I have a vegetarian cousin, but we aren't close, and she is never really a part of our extended-family stuff. That's it though. All my friends think I'm weird. I guess I could count all the Hindu people I work with...but then we barely speak the same language and they're all way older than me. The two veg/vegan friends I had gave it up. It's a lonely life....![]()
edit: I just remembered I do have ONE friend, but he's also really lax about the whole thing. Its just that he only is veg because his mom is and that's how she raised him. To him its like how my mom raised me to clean my room. Yeah, I do it. But sometimes I'm rebellious. ![]()
I have met people in my life who are vegetarian, but I am the only vegetarian out of my friends.
My fiance is a vegetarian along with me. One of my older brothers is a vegetarian as well.
I am one of 4 vegetarians at work. I have been one for a couple of years now--mainly due to health reasons. I knew this one girl who claimed to be a vegetarian, except that she ate chicken . . .I am not sure why she thinks chicken qualifies as a veg.
