So I'm 5'5 and 130,22 years old, not overweight in my mind at all.  People say im definatly thin and toned.  I was seating a lady at my restaurant tonight (she was a bit older than me) and she asks me when im due in a really bitchy way. When i informed her that I wasnt pregnant, she looked at me like "Your NOT?! while looking at my stomach, which was in no way stuck out?!  I was completely shocked and just sat them and walked away. It stuck with me though and really upset me and made me really suprised.

Sounds like she was just trying to piss you off. what a crazy lady!

An old-ish lady once ranted at me about teenage pregnancy in a supermarket. it was in the summer and i was wearing tight/small/thin clothes. it wasnt an angry rude rant, but still the pregnancy thing just annoyed me! and im thin! although i do admit i bloat alot...

dont let it get to you! maybe she was wanted to annoy someone randomly. ever think "hmmm, wonder wat wud happen if i made a random comment to a random person, and never saw em agn?"? LOL

maybe you were glowing :) lol

think positive!

Why do people put so much value into what random strangers say?

Were you wearing one of those high waisted tops? A really older lady might not realize they are just in style, not maternity. But really, don't let it get to you. She may have asked that of the guy at the filling station too. lol.

I definitely wouldn't take it as much to heart if it was a stranger, but it still sucks to have someone make that kind of comment, or any negative comment at all, for that matter.

I care what people think of me to a point, but not enough where what they say or think will affect me for very long. But if it's negative or just downright mean, I can be honest and say that it WILL affect me for a little while. You know?

If her tone was bitchy than she was probably being jealous and competitive. Maybe she thought her partner was giving you the eye or something, i don't know. I do know words that rhyme with the word for kicking-a-football, but that's another issue (or is it?)

Because they don't enjoy being spoken to rudely or insultingly, especially in a service job capacity where they may be restrained from dishing it back?(court mentioned she was seating the woman at a restaurant, which I assume meant she was on the clock as a waitress)

And for those who do enjoy being publicly insulted, well, there are specialty websites for that... ;)

I'm very sorry this happened to you. But just out of curiosity, was this older woman with any company (family or friends)? If anone in my family or any of my friends made such a rude comment to a complete stranger, I would be embarrassed, very apologetic, and above all, pissed.

Some people can't feel good about themselves unless they put someone else down. If anything, I would feel bad for this lady for having such a sour attitude her entire life.

It's too bad these things do affect us. I wish I was tougher, but my sensitivity is a part of the great person I am.

I still remember once about 15 years ago, an older woman in line with me at a clothing store turned around and said to me "I suggest you start losing weight now dearie, it only gets harder as you get older" and some other crap. It was humilating, as I was there with a friend who heard it all, and it was pointlessly cruel - she didn't know how desperately I wanted to be thinner, how horribly self-conscious I was about my size, how I was struggling with an eating disorder. Her remarks were really hurtful. I'm still kinda mad about it lol...now that's good grudge-holding!

Some people are just dumbasses and have no idea or care for how a comment will affect you, whether it's even true or not.

Where did I say anything about enjoying being insulted?

People are a-holes so there's no point in letting something a stranger says bother you. Brush them off as being stupid and move on with your life.

Where did I say you, alibsam specifically was a masochist?

The specialty website/public insult thing was just a little wisecrack, not directed at anyone in particular. Not as funny as taking it personally in a post that's essentially about how you should ignore things and move on with your life, but a wisecrack nonetheless.
