Is This Okay In Your Opinion?
Okay I'll try to make this short. It's my second time around trying to lose a huge amount of weight and I'm having issues getting started & finding my "balance"
I'm 19
Female
211 lbs @ 5'3''
I eat about 1600-1700 calories a day and drink about 56 oz of water a day
My question is about exercise. I believe I have the calorie situation finally figured out but now I need to make sure I'm not under-exercising or over-exercising.
Right now I walk about 30 mins in the morning and another 30 mins at night at a pretty brisk pace. During my second walking session I do about 10 mins of jogging. When I get home I do a few leg and arm exercises with resistance bands and I stretch.
Do you think this is enough? Too little? Not enough? I'm desperate to get this thing started once again and I want to make sure I'm doing it right. There's nothing worse than spending a month or so working your butt off only to stay the same weight as before or gain weight. Thanks for any help and advice!
Bump.
Good job on getting started!
Your exercise is good as long as you are getting the results you want! I would suggest more strength training to keep your muscles as you are losing weight (which is more a function of diet anyway). Maybe you can do a longer strength training using more resistance every other day instead of your walk/jog.
I have seen far greater improvements in my body with weighttt training. There are alot of posts about a book called the New Rules of Lifting for Women. I am following it and feeling a lot leaner.
I did not have as much weight to lose as you but I have always been concerned that if I did weights I would get bigger or "bulky" for me it has absolutely not happened. The scale hasn't moved much but my clothes fit way better and I finally feel "toned" after all the years of trying to "tone" up.
So if I were you, I would add some heavy whole body weightlifting into the mix maybe 2x a week.
Good luck!
Good luck
sorry i cant offer any help but well done with your weight loss so far :)..
Keep up the good work :)..

^^ ME TOO!
I started with about 55 pounds to lose. I spent a month doing walking and trying to jog as much as I could. I lost some weight, but was still having issues with my knees, and no change in how my clothes fit. Then I read here on CC about the New Rules book and since then I have lost a little weight and some inches as well.
There are a lot of home strength exercise routines that you can do with little or no equipment. A word of warning, though - anything that makes your muscles sore will make you retain a bit of water as the muscles repair. That water weight disappears after a few days.
Also, it helps my motivation if I not only log my weight, but my measurements, and also what I am able to do in a workout. As long as I can go harder/faster/longer, I can feel good about my new lifestyle.
Your plan seems very reasonable. Way to go! Feel free to message me if you have any other questions.
