I'm kind of stuck because I have no idea what a normal 19 year old should eat in a day. I had an eating disorder about a year and a half ago and so my ideas of what's appropriate are all screwed up. Also, I live in a dorm with a meal plan that offers no nutritional facts. I try to estimate, but I could severly be over/underestimating. Stats: 19, 5'4", 111 pounds, sedentary aside from walking to and from class, and I'm trying just to maintain.
A normal food day for me:
B: Egg and Cheese biscuit sandwich, or Cream of Wheat
L: Peanut butter and Jelly Sandwich
D: Tuna Salad Sandwich and a cup of cottage cheese with cherry tomatoes
I realize it's not too healthy when it comes to fruits and vegetables. But at the moment, I'm most concerned with if this is close to a normal amount of food for a day or much less/more.
plug your body stats into the "burn meter" calculator on this site and then figure out how many calories of food your daily menu adds up to. :) Should give you a better idea. IMO your meals look good but most 19 year olds (including me) have a small midmorning snack and a small afternoon snack. maybe try to get your fruits in during those times...have an apple or a banana or something.
It doesn't really sound like enough to me, but without knowing the size of the portions or other basic info, I guess it would be hard to guesstimate.
You need between 1900 and 2100 cals a day. The quality of what you eat is as important as how much. A range of food will give you the best nutrition. You're undereating at the moment and you're probably not getting enough iron, vitamin C & calcium in your diet. Iron deficiencies (anaemia) are very common in young women and can cause feelings of fatigue. Foods rich in iron are fortified breakfast cereals, red meats, dark green vegetables, beans (pulses/legumes in general), whole eggs. And you need vitamin C to help your body absorb the iron.... citrus fruit, kiwifruit, berries, red peppers, tomatoes. Vitamin C also boosts your immune system. Calcium comes from dairy products & dark green vegetables amongst other things and is important for strong bones and teeth.
Try to get some hot meals rather than living on sandwiches. Even if you can't see the nutritional facts, that shouldn't prevent you from eating normally. If that's a barrier to you, you're probably not recovered from the eating disorder and you should seek some help
That breakfast buscuit is going to bite you back in the end - meaning the rear. Been there... Freaked there... Maybe try just the egg n go easy on the cheese? Add some milk & a little juice? A V8 fusion would give you the vegis your not getting. broccolli n eggs are actaully amazingly good. lol
Personally I'm a fan of peanut butter & preserves on 'double fiber' bread so I'd say keep that - great protein source! lol
You're diet is really low on potasium... You'll want to add an individual supliment to keep the heart healthy. Restricted calorie diets are really hard on the heart & you will want to combat that.
