Well I loved it, make the most of it, be extra friendly and remember you have no responsibilities right now so just have fun! if you do plenty of extracurricular activities then you'll find you're always really busy which is great. You'll also make a lot of friends during those four years, some genuine and others not quite so. You start to find out who you are and breakaway from your parents.

Although it isn't always like this for some people fortunately I've never been bullied or out casted so i cant really comment about that.

I personally think its not a bitchy as middle school, although i have seen it get quite catty about boys and rumors spread verrry quickly.

Have fun :)

High School wasn't too bad, just take the classes that you want to take and don't put too much pressure on yourself to fit in.  The worst thing you can do is become lost in the crowd and forget who you really are inside.

Enjoy your time in High School, and look forward to college, which is extremely fun Laughing.

Don't take s*** from anyone.  Talk to a lot of people and be very polite to them... be yourself and make friends... but as soon as someone disrespects you, stand up for yourself and put them in their place.  People will establish their own ranking system and you don't want to be on the bottom.  If I could go back and change one thing I would've thrown bows with every guy who disrespected me at school and during lacrosse practice.

I'm not so sure fighting is the best answer.  I would actually prefer to have never been in any fights in high school; I broke my hand over that ridiculousness and it is a fast way to get on the bad side of administration.  Now that I'm older, I prefer to just walk away from conflicts like that because the people who start things like that are generally looking for a reaction anyway.

I didn't necessarily mean fighting... standing up for yourself can be done in many other less violent ways.  I wouldn't have fought in school, but there were times I allowed myself to be intimidated on the lacrosse field by teammates who were bigger.

I loved high school.
They either turn out to be the best 4 years of your life or the worst. But you have more control than you think over which one is true.

Go into it with an open mind & give everyone the benefit of the doubt until you get to know them.

Oh, & don't wait until junior/senior year to decide to apply yourself & get involved because that's when you start to think about college. Consistently do well & it'll make your college application process so much better. It's SO competitive with colleges now, & it's only getting moreso.

You only get to do it once & it's the last chance you really have to be a kid. Enjoy it!

Pick your friends, don't let them pick you.
Be friendly, but not needy.
Be yourself.
Smile.
Remember that to all the freshmen this is new to them.  They will all be nervous the first few weeks.
If you enjoy an activity or think that you may find one interesting, go for it, even if it is outside of your comfort zone.
Be prepared, teachers like it when you come to school on time and equipt with the right tools.
Have fun.

It goes by soooo quick. Looking back at my freshman year, it seems like it went by before I could blink an eye.

high school is also a lot less petty than grade school. the girls are still vicious but they're also more matured. as for the guys, i can't say i know a whole lot because i attend an all girls catholic school. 600 girls every day..... talk about too damn much estrogen

I'm gonna be a sophmore this year. If you take advanced classes, then the work is A LOT harder, but with it comes a lot more freedom. Yea, its fun. :) I'm enjoying it.

I just graduated about a month ago Smile

Going through high school has made me grow up BIG time, so expect a journey. Personally, high school was only enjoyable during the middle of it. At the beginning, I was so nervous about meeting new people (I only had one friend to begin with at my high school because all my old friends went to different schools). Towards the end, I was too anxious to get out of high school to even enjoy it anymore. I think that you have to get used to high school and WANT to be there to enjoy it (unfortunately, I definitely did not want to be there most of the time).

Do extracurriculars as much as you can (without overwhelming yourself, of course). You'll meet tons of friends by getting involved (best of all, you'll probably meet a lot of upperclassmen who can give you rides!). If you like sports, I highly recommend you try out. Though I am playing soccer in college, I didn't play in high school for personal reasons and it's probably my biggest regret.

Good luck!

This is so true. I graduated high school three years ago, and it went by so fast! I loved high school, but I know some people who didn't. Remember that everyone in your grade is nervous too about meeting new people and all that. And don't worry about the older kids - they will act like they think they're better than you (which they do) but 99% of the time they won't do anything about it. Just make friends and have fun! Enjoy it while it lasts.

just enjoy it while you can
don't take it too seriously

i miss highschool! :\
life after highschool is not what i expected at all lol

I was one of those 'over-achievers' in high school. I took 5 AP classes my junior year and beat the record of most AP's taken in one year for the history of our school. I was involved in so many extra-curriculars that I literally had NOT ONE single weekend to myself.

I loved it. :)

But that's my personality. As an aries, I'm go-go-go and I won't let anything get in my way (good for weightloss!)

It all depends on who you are. If you can handle it, or if you're like me and you THRIVE in it, push yourself as hard as you can go. Otherwise, my friends all had a blast anyways just chillin outside in the courtyard about 80% of the time, goofing off and not caring.

It's all about who you are. :)

Not to be a downer.. but high school sucked. Graduation was the highlight of those 4 years. Everybody's experience is different though. You might have great people in your year!

YOU decide how good it will be. YOU decide if you get into trouble or not. YOU decide how your grades will be. YOU decide who you meet and when. It's all up to you. My advice is to get involved. Some of it is just dumb luck though.

High schools been a rollercoaster from me. It's had it's highs (I was the happiest I ever was at some points) and its lows (I've come close to suicide). But it's up to you. Good luck, and try to have fun and see the good in these years. We're still young, and we have to enjoy it.

I'm going into my senior year of college so it's been a little while since I was in high school.  In my experience though middle school is probably the most awkward and terrible time of anyone's life but once you start high school things get better and better.  You become more and more independent, make more friends, get to goof off and enjoy not having any extremely pressing responsibilities, AND with the least amount of effort you can do really well academically.  I took honors classes when I was in high school and found them to be a breeze.

It'll be very enjoyable especially if you join a club or two and really branch out.  And just remember while you're having all of that fun in high school... college is 150x better! (Just as an example- K-12 you always look forward to summer break BUT when you get into college summer is the most boring time EVER!  You will be counting down the days until you get to go back to school, and hang out with your friends lol) You've got some great times to look forward to! Make the best of it!

ill b a junior this yr n personally i like high school soooo much better than middle school!!! theres a lotta drama in high school, but ppl arent nearly as mean & cruel as in middle school! u can meet a lot more friends in hs & its more fun if u get involved too!! :)

hope everything goes well!! it seriously goes fast....it seems just like yesterday since i started my freshman yr lol.

in comparison to middle school, high school is much, much better! i'm going to be a senior in high school this year. the new school year is quickly approaching, but i'm looking forward to it. i remember being an awkward incoming freshman - it's that way for everyone at first. but you eventually get how it goes, and it's okay. be excited for the new people you'll meet, there's really some great people out there (i learned that especially in my junior year). :)

Well i went to a catholic elementary school, and so everyone went to the catholic high school, but because i am not catholic, i ended up being the only one from my grade going to the public high school. I had to make all new friends. But to tell you the truth it has been greta im in my last year of HS, and i have 3 great close friends, the teachers are great and my marks are pretty good to. As long as you be who you are you will find friends just like you and have a blast with them, without regrets of acting like someone you are not, and i highly recommend going into to several clubs, really helps with finding friends, keeping yourself busy and getting involved with the school. Good Luck!!

I loved High School!  Although I am the type of person who does - I was a cheerleader for all 4 years (captain for 2) - and my school was very small (graduating class of 54), so everyone was pretty close.  We didn't have the groups that I hear about at school, it was mostly the 'jocks' and the 'alternatives'; however, we all got along for the most part.  I think my high school experience really shaped me into the person I am today.
