Ok tm night (I know short notice) I am making mock chicken and sweet potato carrot mash.  I have no ideas about wine/alcohol and I am not sure what to serve with these.  Nothing really strong because I dont want my quests tipsy.

Thanks!~

Try a moderately dry white like a Sauvignon Blanc. New Zealand whites are very nice and are inexpensive.  If you want to spend a little more, get a Sancerre Blanc (Loire Valley, France).  Won't compete with the sweet potatoes or overwhelm your mock chicken (tofu?).

The "Barefoot" brand wine is pretty good & at a great price point. The sauvignon is nice & casual. If you know what your guests prefer (dry, sweeter, etc) that may be something to consider. You may also want to try adding seltzer to the glass (I do sometimes) and it makes it festive & they actually consume less alcohol per serving. You could also add about a tablespoon of apricot juice, too.

Ok, now I am running with this! lol. You could also make a light white sangria.... very refeshing. If you want some tips on that let me know. I've made it many a time for family gatherings and at my brother's wedding.

with the sweetness of the potato i would offset with a drier wine. a dry reisling if your guests still like it on the sweet side or a good pino grigo. I would keep it white with chicken, chill it, the flavor will be better. Try to find something local in the wine store, they usually have less bottle shock. (no offense- i HATE the barefoot brand lol, i know A LOT of people who do like it, but it's always way too bitter for my tastes- if you go this route- keep it on ice.)

I just realized this was like.. last week. lol but there's some idear's for you next time! :) lol and a good rule is if it's white meat/sause serve white wine, and if it's red, red. Merlot and Pino are ALWAYS in my cabinet as go-tos then i buy yummy stuff for a fun sunday wine and cheese spread for me and hubby.
