hi. i'm about to start working night shift next monday. let's say that i start at 8pm. so whatever i eat till 12 mn i'll count it as monday's intake. and if i eat "lunch" at 2 am tuesday, i'll be counting it as tuesday's intake. by the way i'm a nurse,i just don't know how to manage the every other day of night shift then i have to adjust to mornings again on my off days. thanks so much.

If you can stick to one eating schedule that works during normal days as well as night shifts, that would probably be ideal.

If not, maybe you can have dinner before you start your night shift and go for a light snack during your break. Then you can have breakfast during your second break some time in the morning at 2 am.

for your normal days, you can just eat whenever you wake up and take it from there.

It's really tuff to have to do night shifts, my sis is a nurse and it was really hard for her too.

i'd probably try to keep 6 hours between meals and if you can, snack in between (every 3hrs after a meal).

hope that helps.

thanks! i think i'll go with the 2am as breakfast. i hope i can adjust to this new schedule.

as a nurse who used to work 12hour night shift, l can tell you this...becareful about those mindless snacking to stay awake esp. on slow nights. Watch what you add into your coffee, those little calories add up, hence all the fat nurses. l worked with a nurse that drank tea and ate oatmeal at night while we had the everything on top pizza.....lol

Anyway have a plan and an eating schedule and stick to it. Have healthy snacks on hand and depending on where you work, people will bring sugar and fat filled 'treats' to work. Learn to say no and RUNNNNNNN.

Goodluck on the new job.
