Opinions about working all night and calories.

Quote  |  Reply

I worked all night last night on the ambulance from 7.00 pm till 7.00 am, with interrupted sleep of about two hours.  I have eaten all my calories today, as in those I have burnt at the gym and my standard calories for my metabolism... eaten about 2540 and burnt about 2530.  I am wondering if I am being realistic in thinking that this will probably not have too negative impact on my weight loss for the week?

I`m pretty sure you can get away with it just fine if it`s a one time thing. What might become a problem is if you regularly worked nights and slept too little.

Also, if it becomes a habit that you get enough hours of sleep, but they are chaotically distributed throughout the day, that could be a problem as well. I`m not sure how well irregular sleeping patterns go with weight loss, but common sense tells me they can`t help any.

I have this same question. Sunday night I had to do an all nighter in order to get a project done for the following day. I had to eat more calories in order to keep going, but I went over my limit. So I am also wondering how this will play into my weight loss because I will be having to do more all nighters by the end of the week.

krogal, if I were you, I would forget about weight loss this week and eat maintenance. Something tells me you have more important stuff to worry about than dieting right now, and that you need your brain functioning at maximum capacity. But be careful because the more hours you are awake, the more calories maintenance actually is.

BTW, when I made a similar topic, the best piece of advice that I got was to not let myself get to this situation the next time. :) (i.e. plan ahead and get your projects done in a reasonable fashion) Sucks, I know, but apparently in life you can`t have `em all.

I think you're probably right about just trying to maintain this week.

And the problem is that I'm in architecture school and with all the planning ahead in the world, if you're in architecture school you're doing several allnighters when it comes to finals time.

It's been very rough on me the last two weeks and it's really wearing me down. I'm feeling low.

Ohhh, I have several friends in architecture school. You`re right, even the most hard working and well organized of the bunch have to pull one nighters now and again.

You are probably overwhelmed by having so many issues to deal with. Focus on school, since it`s only temporary, and you can get back to weight loss when the academic load is off. Best of luck to you!
