Oprah's Plan Dr. Oz

Quote  |  Reply

Has anyone been watching Oprah recently? What do you think of her 'plan'?

I just happened to catch her show yesterday since I was home early with a cold (it's one of my guilty pleasures to watch her show when I'm home sick). Anyway, I thought the checklist provided by Dr. Oz was pretty good: http://www.oprah.com/article/health/wellnessa ndprevention/pkgyourhealth/20081113_tows_heal thchecklist

The other stuff Oprah said about writing down why you deserve to be healthy, etc. I kind of ignored.

Thanks for the link whitsc.  I just check it out and it says you should 'suck in and measure your waist' - does anyone know why they say to suck in?  Isn't that cheating??

ugh i am so sick of reading and hearing about oprah and her diets. enough already. she should keep it to herself.

I guess if we are "fed up" with Oprah falling off the wagon, we should have little to no tolerance for all of the posters here who do the same thing...lose and gain weight. Oprah is only human too ! Sheesh.

Her food plan seems very low on whole grain carbohydrates and fat.    Also, the same few meals over and over offer no variety.

While it would be great to have your own gourmet chef prepare these meals I still find it too boring.  She didn't include any treats!

What do you folks think?

but she's not human...sort of...she one of the most powerful people in the world, not just a random person on caloriecount.

I think she has a very arrogant tone to everything she says.  Even when she fails at something its like she says:  "I failed and that means that you're allowed to fail too. "   I agree with pgeorgian.  The show was waaaaay more interesting when it used to be more than just hearing her opinion on various topics.  I think she really needs all of her opinions to be validated--why else focus so much attention on herself?  I dont know.  I cant even watch that show anymore.  I just stand listening to Oprahs diary hour, ya know?

I like Dr Oz and think he has alot of info.   Take what you want and leave the rest.  I can relate to her in many ways as I can with many of you.  I think we all need to give a little grace to each other.  The measure of grace you give to others is the measure returned to you.  Most imprtant is that we give it to ourselves.

Be kind to others, but stand up for yourself!

MOst people on this site struggle with weight gain AND by the grace of god -weight loss.  He who has not over induldged can throw the first stone.  Just thought I'd lighten up the conversation a little.   Smile

Then don't listen . Subscribe to "pgeorgian". Holy crap..she is too human. So many of you are just too wound up in your own envy to recognize that.  Shall we demonize every rich person on earth? Good Freakin' grief....

im the last person to subscribe to pgeorgian, trust me.  why are you getting so defensive and rude?  we're talking about oprah, not your mom.......Good freakin' grief.

Oh I don't think this thread has been about demonizing her at all.  Most posters have agreed that Oprah has some wonderful qualities and gifts.  I also don't think it's about anyone "subscribing" to one poster's way of thinking.  I think it's just about the majority of us agreeing that Oprah should focus on the things that she's strong at.  She's already admitted that she has some food issues.  I applaud her for admitting it on national television.  That takes guts.  I can't speak for other posters, but I just personally think that she should focus on other things besides diet after diet.

Maybe it's because I don't believe that diets work.  I believe that it's more important for a person to change their way of life....and diets that are very restrictive and that force a person to follow alot of rules is not something that most people can sustain long term.  I don't follow Oprah very closely, but I just don't see her pushing things like this.  I see her pushing "diets".  I'd love to see her pushing people to simply watch what they eat, follow the food pyramid, and make sure that they get good exercise.  Maybe she has and I just haven't seen it?

EXACTLY!  I agree that most people with weight issues have experienced ups and down.............but most know that they do not have the "keys to the kingdom of wisdom and knowledge about weight control".  That is what bugs me about Oprah.  She loses , she gains, then she proclaims the way, the truth and the light.  I hope she does find HER way, truth and the light this time.  But she sure doesn't know yours or mine.  She is a wonderfully bright, talented, and yes very rich woman.........but not a teacher of nutrition, exercise or weight control.  I prefer to learn from someone who has had sustained succcess or the experts.  I am not jealous of her, I applaud her success............as a person and as an entertainer.

I totally agree with bibsey on this.  I watched Oprah's show on this and it is obvious that she doesn't have the "key" to keeping off weight either.  I'm sorry that she has not been able to keep off the weight but her problems and perceptions do not automatically translate to my weight problems.

I also watched the new group on the Biggest Loser who are the heaviest people yet to be on the show.  I was watching the trainers faces as they watched the group - you could just see them thinking - how in the heck did these people let themselves get so out of control?? The trainers at the beginning of the show said some things that I thought was excellent.  Something like ....America, this is us - OBESE; and don't sit there in front of the TV watching the Biggest Loser eating a bowl of ice cream...etc.   More like tough love and straight talk....

Why am I overweight?  why did I gain back the 25 lbs. I worked so hard to lose?   Frankly, because I slacked off and went back to old habits...i.e. as the trainers on the BL are getting at and not like Oprah says that I don't love myself enough and am trying to fill a void.

i thought the whole "i don't love myself enough" was ridiculously selfish of her to say, its just an excuse to make her feel better about her weight problems.

(i didn't want to say that in my topic, just in case ppl attack me, rather than give their opinion.)

I think it's weird we talk of Oprah on any level...in all arenas she is amoebic at best.

i love pgeorgian, i think her comments are quite 'witty' so to say, it makes you laugh yet you know what her opinion is. she doesn't skirt around the truth, she's blunt, but she's honest. keep it up pgeorgian!!

I love PG too, not just for her witty reporte, but  fot her weaving skills, oh and for her humanitarian quest to stop rabid donut making in British Columbia, but most of all I love pegeorian for her love of tribal dance....if you haven't seen her YouTube then well, shyte, you aint, well, shyte!

I've gotten blasted for this opinion before but whatever. Yes, we can all agree Oprah is one of the most brilliant business people on the planet and she didn't get to that way on accident. The woman is amazing in that respect.

OK, with that said, I HATE HATE HATE her "hey ladies, I'm just like you" crap. No, you're not like me. You're $3 billion Oprah. You can pay someone to follow you around and knock burgers out of your hand and strap you to a table and force feed you whole grains and veggies. You can have a full time staff of people to monitor your every damn decision and you just about do.

You are not like me or anyone else who watches your show. If you have the drive to be the huge success you've become, don't give me this boo hoo I'm just one of the gals just like you garbage.
