Oranges and soup

Quote  |  Reply

Ok one time I read this thing that said a scientific study carried out found that people who had some soup during the day (as well as all their other food of course) lost more weight than people who didn't have soup but had the same amount of calories and exercise as the people who did eat soup.

Then yesterday I read the same thing about oranges and I also heard it about milk as well. Do you think its true and if it was true, why would that work?

Well, you'd think I'd be really losing because I eat oranges and soup everyday! WinkI am losing some weight, but slowly and counting carefully. Soup is filling, though and I think the oranges have helped keep me from getting sick when everyone else is.

I never heard that. I have been told you should eat soup because it makes you feel full quicker so you eat less calories. It doesn't seem likely to me that if you ate the same amount of calories that you would lose more weight. I would actually think the opposite because most soups are salty, which means you retain more water and therefore would weight more. I don't think your body can tell a soup/orange/milk calorie from any other.
I've heard/read that drinking a glass of low-fat milk or having low-fat yogourt with a meal can cause your body to absorb up to 20% less of the calories from fat. Apparently it's something to do with the calcium especially found in dairy products, and therefore taking a supplement wouldn't have the same effect.
