What should I order a Japanese restaurant?
Asked by anonymous on Oct 23, 2009 in Nutrition

Answer

There are lots of healthy foods to choose from in Japanese restaurants.  Stay away from foods that are breaded or fried and labeled as "tempura," "agemono," and "katsu". Instead, order foods that are "yaki" (broiled or grilled) or "nimono" (simmered).  Go for miso, hot and sour and other broth-based soups, almost all varieties of sushi, sashimi (fresh raw fish with dipping sauces), the dipping sauces and condiments (soy sauce with wasabi paste, ponzu, grated fresh ginger, shiso, or shredded daikon radish), raw vegetable salads with dressing on the side, teriyaki chicken, beef or salmon, and yakitori (broiled chicken skewers).
