any other chip addicts?
I am a chip-a-holic. I try so hard to give up chips but I just cant seem to do it. I have tried baked and fat free and all that jazz but it doesnt seem to help I still pig out on them and its a lot of empty calories, calories I am wasting on bad food. Any other chip addicts out there that want to join me in giving up chips?

Hi, I'm Laps, and I am a salt-a-holic.
Laps
Anyway I'm with you I have given up chips. I stopped buying them a while back.
I can (and have) make dinner out of a bag of tortilla chips and a jar of salsa.
I love chips but I can't eat them. I can't stop so I just don't start. Plus I can't stand the way they smell on my kids breath-that's hurl factor right there. In high school-when I was starving all the time-I ate one 25 cent bag of cool ranch doritos for lunch and it would take me an hour. I would take one chip, and lick all the seasoning off one side, then the other, then put the whole chip in my mouth...just thinking of that makes me nostalgic ![]()
I am not a chip-a-holic, but I do like them. I was at Walmart and found these Pop-Secret popcorn snacks, kinda like rice cakes but popcorn and they had some good flavors they are great for dipping too. I was a pop-a-holic and I knew it wasn't healthy. I told myself that I could go 30 days without pop. After the 30 days I would reward myself by cashing in all my change I had been saving and spend it on something I didn't really need. And so it's been 46 days and guess what I've learned to live without it. I get a craving every now and then and I told myself that on special occasions it would be alright. So if I can kick that habit I have no doubt you can kick your habit. Just find a healthy alternative and set a goal. Good luck!
However, the easiest tip is: DO NOT BUY THEM! Don't have them anywhere near you! Don't pick them up a giant bag at the grocery store and think "well, I'll just eat 1 serving at a time".... that NEVER happens! 14 chips in a serving... gimme a break :) Resist vending machines and convenience store impulse purchases! That's what worked for me. Chips will only satisfy a temporary desire but you'll regret blowing so many calories on something that gives you no nourishment at all.
me me me!!!
I would eat a whole bag of lays plain chips dipped in plain yogurt...
I still will indulge every now and then, as I havent found a good enough substitute.
yes!! i love chips. any kind. potato, tortilla, pita, aghhhhh
i've asked my mom not to buy them but she does anyway because my brother loves them.
I am a nacho chip addict... toasted pitas and salsa is a somewhat decent substitute but what I really want is Tostitos LOADED with cheese (Cheddar/mozza/monterey jack) and chicken and tomatos and green onions...................
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
surprisingly i don't have much interest in chips, but anything else salty and i lose it!!! pretzels, cheese doodles, chex mix, ok maybe doritos... i think it depends, i just stopped buying chips a while ago so i don't think about them much anymore... but i'm still a salt fiend... especially if it's cheesy and salty (oh cheese fries mmmm) the biggest thing is to just not buy them. if i buy them, they're gone.
ugh I'm a chip-a-holic AND a sweets-a-holic (and a fried food-a-holic). I take different approaches to dealing with each one ;) and so far I congratulate myself on some pretty damn good self-control.
Anyway, my particular chip weakness is Flaming Hot Cheetos. So yesterday, a bag of Flaming Hot Cheetos Puffs was staring me in the face, but I persevered. It was already open (I think my sister bought it), and the one thing that grosses me out to no end is sharing with other people (even family). I hate drinking from other people's cups or straws, and I will not take a bite from something somebody else has already bitten. So I just imagined that my sister had been eating the chips, licking her fingers, then sticking her hand back in the bag for more. Gross... I was able to bypass that bag of chips last night AND this morning :D
Actually, just the thought of somebody licking their fingers grosses me out. This strategy does seem particularly effective for Flaming Hot Cheetos for me, because it seems like EVERYBODY licks their fingers after eating them.

My new kick is soy crisps *_* They are tasty. Don't plan on giving those up
I can't buy them. I will eat the entire bag. I'm the same way with Wheat Thins. I can polish off a box in one sitting, no problem.
Those are on the list with Oreos. The list of items I shouldn't even look at while I'm at the grocery store.
Okay so I am starting tomorrow! NO chips at all. Not any, and I am going to take a tip from the girl who said she saved all her change from coke ( she called it pop) but everything in Texas is coke. :P I will add the money that I would have saved on chips to my change bowl. But that means no goldfish crackers or pretzels either. :( I will survive. I had a bad diet day today anyhow. I dont think I ate anything even remotley healthy. I am going to try and prepare all my foods for tomorrow so I dont do that again.
Slice one potato very thinly, place on a baking pan, making sure that they do not overlap, spray with Pam and bake until they dry on about 200F. Lightly coat with salt.
Same calorie total as a baked potato. Yummy for us chip addicts.
I thought buying some yummy crackers would help with my love of snacking on chips. I actually don't really like chips that much but they're just so awesome to snack on. Anyways, I eat yummy All Bran garlic and herb crackers but not often because sometimes 18 crackers just isn't enough. I also started eating wasabi peas instead. I usually find when I want to eat chips its because I'm craving salty things.
i stopped buying them and do not have any at my apartment-i would eat them at nigh. during the 3 months on thsi diet i have only once bought a pack of some low fat chips (they were good but i doid feel guilty afterwards-400 cals of unnecessary food:) so i avoid them.
I have to disagree with giving up with things completely. Most of the time, unless you are super motivated/have really strong willpower you will crack, eat them and be back to square one within a fairly short amount of time. Especailly if you really are as addicted to them as you are making yourself out to be.
The first thing I would reccomend is buying SINGLE SERVE bags! They are a blessing. Wherever you go, just take one with you and then you can't have more than that!
The second thing is (I feel like a broken record because I have mentioned this so many times on this board) is POPCHIPS. They are amazing. They aren't baked or fried, they are popped. They are better tasting than the baked and only 120 calories per bag. They are only avalible in stores on the West coast, but I live in NY and buy a box of them on amazon, they come in a bunch of different flavors and are amazing. try popchips.com or amazon.com and search for them.
OMG LOL:)
1 WORD -> STACY's (from Costco).
"nothing to see here folks, just keep your hands and feet away from his mouth"
Here is the daily conversation between my wife and I after I have polished off the bag. "Please, please quit buying these" Next day when we our out: "Hey have you been to Costco to restock the Stacy's?"
OMG I lOVE Chips! I can have one of those big bags all to myself. I think because my mother would never allow me to have them as a child I just over indulge myself now. Mmmm I want chips now, sour cream and onion Ruffles
hi xzcandizx. just an explanation: i believe that for some, having chips (or anything else) ocasionally might be better than cutting them off. it all depends on the personal habits, personality etc. me, i find it hard to stop when i buy chips, and when i tried them during my diet, i was not really feeling good after having them (which put me off the idea of buying a single serve bag. one bag would not satisfy me, i have tried that before:), so my decision was not to buy them next time.
i DO believe this approach is not for everyone though-i was only saying what works for me, and i know it might not work for somebody else:)
i used to eat a big bag of chips almost daily, and they were always my number one comfort food since i was a kid (number two and three were deep fried anything and cheese. i still buy cheese but control the amount of it and buy good quality so i feel saisfied and know it is actually a nutritious food). again - this is my personal experience, not a imperative to all:)
