Any other Guys here?

Hello all,

I just joined because in my search for calorie information I keep running into this website.

I weigh 256 as of this posting (down from 280 two months ago) and recently I started really cutting down my portions from eating in the range of 3800 calories per day to about 2400.  My goal isn't weight loss, but to achieve and maintain my optimal weight; which I've never seen as an adult, but I assume to be about 155-170ish (though I have a hard time imagining myself that small.)  BMI claims that number should be 148, but my mind goggles at the little person I would be...

Anyway I ended up joining because I saw the awesome support you all give each other and found the nifty tools (food log, activity log along with charting).  The food log has become my new IE home page and I do computer repair so I'm always seeing that home page.   Should help me stay accountable to myself.

My next question/comment is... Any other guys here?  I'm sure I can relate to many of the challenges most of the ladies here are facing, but both mentally, biologically and in our goals the genders differ.   I chose to change my lifestyle because I didn't like the limitations the weight was placing upon my business and social life as well as physical activities.

So anyway that's my greeting.   I wish everyone here well in achieving their goals.  I'd wish you luck, but this choice... this lifestyle... is about will and effort; not luck.

Hi Solo,

This is a great place.  I find the more I visit, the more I stay focused and with my program.  I also have it set to my home page in my web browser.  I eat around 2100 cals a day.  I've lost just over 100 lbs and would like to lose another 70 to get myself around 200 lbs.

Good Luck and Welcome.

Ed
Hi there, welcome to the site! Good work on the loss so far too!

Yea there are lots of guys around here, weightloss isnt only for the women ><
Another guy here, and BMI doesn't work too good for me; in addition to weight I focus on waist size and how much fat I can grab on my sides.  My goal is to get my waist <36 inches and my sides to "lean". Good luck.
Hi solo... Lots of guys here although many of them don't seem to post as much... a gender thing I guess.  Congrats on the losses.  I am down 47 lbs since March and feeling much better because of it.  The site recommends 154 for me, but that always seemed to be low to me as well.  I am finding that as I get closer to that mark I am finding it increasingly possible that I may want to get there at some point, but for now I am aiming at 165 which means I have only 10 more to go.
There's plenty of guys here-a-bouts. Some of us are regular posters. Others, less so. :)

Welcome to Calorie-Count :)
another guy here.

Like you said I would not trust the BMI for one second, it is what made me go under weight.  The best judge is still not the BMI or the scale but the mirror, just be honist with yourself and you can tell if you need to lose more weight, build muscle or what have you, no scale or chart can tell you that.
Guy here.

Welcome!  This is a great place to be.  Lots of info and support here.  I am down 70 pounds in 13 months.  I went from a size 42 to a 34.  Dont worry about BMI so much.  For guys it could be way off.  I am 6'2" and says by ideal weight is 170.  HEHE yeah right.  I would be happy with 220 and lean.  I am at 229 now.  Keep at it and ask whatever questions you need.  Someone always answers it here.
Yeah, I am 6'4" and I should be 200 or so myself, but I think I'd look a little too scrawny at that weight. I'd be happy with 230 or so. :)

This site recomends 143 for me. I use to weigh down in the 130s and even 105 at one point, and so I think I am just going to shoot for the 143 and see how I feel about it. Currently at 160 and have lost 3 lbs, since I found this site last week. Over the past year I was only able to lose 10lbs. I am actually having trouble getting my Calorie intake up, because I have switched to fruits and grains mostly. My highest Calorie intake during the last week was about 1500 Calories. My lowest was about 1000 Calories. But I think a lot of the Calories indexed for foods on this site are wrong. In fact, I have found a couple that definitely didn't agree with the packaging by almost half. Anyway, I am definitely glad to have this tool. It most certainly helps.
Welcome from another guy. I know what you are going through. The highest I had been was 260, and decided to do calorie counting at 240, now down to 192 (had been 187 but fell off the wagon). It is not easy, but can be done. Hang in there, and it will be worth it.
Yup, another guy here.
I have a Y chromosome.
Thanks for all the responses.   Especially Ed.  I love your website and my story and yours are far too similiar.

I was planning on trusting my horse sense when I reached lower weights to decide my goal weight, and it seems the concensus from all of you is to do exactly that and ignore BMI.   As long as we are healthy, fit and happy with ourselves EH?
