Any other newbies out there?

Hi every one! I'm new. I've only been coming to this site for, like, three or four days now and I thought I'd introduce myself.

I have been fat most of my life. Right now I'm (barely) down from my all time high of 280, 275. I'm sick of being fat. I have been told of all kinds of different options for loosing the weight, including gastric-bypass, stmch stplng, and diet pills. With all of the horrible side effects all of those are known to cause, though, I don't really want to have any of those things done. I want to loose weight to improve my life, not shorten it!

I have plans to go to the Romance Times Convention in Houston TX next year and I would love to actually look good in my costumes. It's a big event and pretty public, at least where those in the romance business are conserned, so I really want to look my best. (Let's face it, how many people look at a huge erotica author and think she has any idea what she's talking about?)

On top of all of that, I would like to be able to sleep again. In any position. Like I did when I was young. It would toatally kick @*& if I could also do some of my favorite outdoor activities again too.

I finally got treatment for my depression, which was the source of my massive weight gain, even though I did not recognize that fact at the time. Now I'm making an honest effort to eat right and exercise every day, every chance I get. (Such as parking as far as I can from the store when ever I go shopping, and walking that 3/4 of a mile to get the mail instead of driving.) I'm going to be going to a health camp near the end of the month, which should help tremendously. (I'm expecting to loose at least 30 lbs, possibly more. Great thing about it is, it's almost all from exercising. They also teach what portions are supposed to look like, so that, combined with a better ability to exercise, should help me continue to loose after I get home. I'm excited about going. It's unbelieveably fun.)

Hi there!  I'm new here too, it's also been 3 or 4 days for me, and I'm hooked!  I think this is the time that it's really going to happen for me.  The support system of people going through the same exact thing is sooooo helpful.  I find it kinda nice that everyone can be honest without feeling shy.  Losing weight is one of the hardest things to do.  It helps tremandously when you can talk to someone who understands the struggles.  In my life, most of the people are skinny, or not ready to change.  This site is perfect for me.

I am also a newbie it has been a little over a week for me.  It seems like such a great site and keeps my mind off of food.  It helps to see other people who have the same struggles and are getting thru them. I cant wait to lose the weight.  I know we will.  And it is a wonderfull feeling.
I've been hooked on this site ever since I found it too! I haven't really spoken to very many of the people here, but they all seem very nice and helpfull. I LOVE the exercise and food logs! I keep the site open so I can add stuff to them as soon as it happens. I've also found myself doing more exercise just so I can put it in my log. Is that strange?

Everyone in my immediate family is overweight. I'm the second to largest. I used to be the second to smallest, but I had a kid, so things changed.

I am detirmined to get down into my favorite pair of jeans again! (Size 9/10, but they run small. Pretty torqoise (sp?) along the pockets. Very cute, even if they are a little out of style.)
Hang those jeans up where you can see them for motivation. I am going to do this with a pair of mine.  I like reminders.
Heh Actually, mine are haning on the fridg. ^-^ That way, I have to look at them before I get anything out. It keeps me from wanting to over eat, seeing those kick @&% pants right there....
Great place to hang them.  I will try that.
I am a newbie too-- found the site a few days ago and have been lurking lol.  My weight over the past few years has fluctuated wildly-- and it's time that it stopped.  I was glad to find a nifty little site like this and read all about other people trying and making it.  My biggest problem is will power and cravings.  Right now I am CRAVING a big bowl of cereal or strawberry shortcake and havent been able to shake it for the past two days.  I am counting cals and carbs... lost 5 lbs since Monday, water weight I know but water weight is better than nothin!
Something I have recently tried is eating my cereal out of a measuring cup. Then I know exaxtly how much I eat without dirtying more dishes.
I actually took a picture of myself in my bra and panties only and HUNG that on my refrigerator!  Talk about motivation!!  What a wae-up call that was. Never realized I was that big!  Any, since then, I have lost over 75lbs!

I have always been big, so this for me is a whole new experience!  I don't have to go into the "Womans Dept" to shop for clothes for the first time snce I was a kid.  What a change that was.

Anyway, good luck to all of you and I know (from experience) if you want it bad enough, you WILL do it!!

  • Was:244.5 (8/05)
  • Now:167 :( gained today
  • Goal:144.5
i usually measure it-- but right now i'm not supposed to be eating carbs.  I kicked the bread part pretty easily, and the cracker craving is slowly subsiding, but golly I really want some thing crunchy and sweet--- or some pound cake lathered in strawberries and cool whip.  My mouth is watering LOL.  In a few weeks hopefully Ill get to enjoy a litlte bit of cereal again.

BTW, I decided to do the low carb thing cuz nothing else was working-- I was working out constantly and eating 1200-1500 cals a day and still not losing out any weight.  Made me depressed lol so I thought well, hell, give it a shot.  So now the goal is 1200-1500 cal and less than 40 carbs (tho I shoot for 20).  My first mini goal is 15 lbs by August 1-- get my a** out of my fat jeans.  The next goal is 19 lbs more by November 1.  And then we will see where to go from there.

Any advice on how to get myself moving?  I am always so tired.
You say you like strawberry short cake? My mother used to fix a small version of those for us. What you do it buy some of those cute little sponge cakes. They come six to the pack. Small, with a bowl like dip in the top for putting on toppings. They sell them in every Walmart I've ever been to and they don't have too many calories, if memory serves.

Anyway, we used to get those and one of those small tubs of strawberrys/w juice and low cal coolwhip to top it all off. Not the healthiest of snacks, I know, but it shouldn't hurt to have just one once in a great while. They say having specific cravings are a way of your body telling you what you need, so maybe you need something you could get from strawberries?
drea99,

I also follow a low carb lifestyle and just stick with!  Try eating good carbs from veggies, at least 10-15g.  Also, I just changed up and am trying to eat more protein.

Strawberries w/ whipped cream from a can aren't bad at all in carbs.  JUST eat 2-3 though.
Actually, I think the best thing anyone can do is to get one of those nice scales. You know, the type that measures body fat? I bought one of those and felt so good about the results. As it turns out, I'm NOT 50% fat! 45%, but honestly, I thought I was more like 80%, so it's all better then what I was expecting.

It could be that the reason you haven't noticed any movement on the scale is because you're building muscle and toning your body. That's not a bad thing.
drea99,

Forgot -

CRACKERS!!

4TBSP. Milled Flaxseed

5TBSP. water

mix, let set a for 2-3 minutes, pour on parchment paper, spread evenly and micro for 5.5 minutes.  Good and NO CARBS!!
Oh, and congrates Oogies! It must be so fantastic to be down 75 lbs! If you can loose that much, I'm SURE you'll loose the rest as well!
I will, I am so determined!!
I think my body fat percentage is probably off the charts.  I can sit cross legged in the pool and float LOL.  I can stand up stick straight and float-- altho, my a** or my t***s end up pulling me up lol.

Yeah everyone is like its muscle-- well, while I love muscle, particularly when it's on me-- its very disheartening to be working so hard and not get anywhere with it.

As far as the strawberry shortcake goes-- I want the real deal, the sara lee pound cake, the strawberries macerated in sugar, and the light cool whip-- all of which happen to be in the house as I speak.  And the lucky charms.  Gotta love being a mom LOL.
oogie! thanks!  im gonna have to try that... does it get nice and crispy?
Funny thing. I never noticed how much I loved strawberries until I could no longer have them. It's strange how many things I use to love to eat that contain them. I honestly never noticed. Now, of course, I can't have any at all. My daughter is allergic, so I can't even have them in the house.
YES! And you can change them up by adding different spices and things.  I've put cinnimon & artificial sweetner in them, parm. cheese, garlic and oregeno and the ones I just made, I added a little salt.  You should add some salt, it just gives it a little something.
