Any other 6' + tall women out there?
I'm 6'1" tall and 210. I'm looking to lose 20 or 30 pounds. All the charts say that my healthy weight is supposed to be 155-170! Is that even realistic? I was 185 in a size 12 and thought I looked pretty darn good. Love to hear from any one else out there with similar stats...
I wonder that, too. I am 6-1 and 190 here. According to the "wrist test" i am on the verge of a small frame, which I never, NEVER thought before. My goal is 160 but I'm like you...is that realistic?
I also would like to get into 10 or 12 pants. I wear 14 longs but most stores stop carrying longs at size 12. So I have to order them online. It would be nice to walk into a store and be able to try pants on.
Silver Tab used to have long sizes, they are pretty expensive. I haven't bought them for quite a while. It is frustrating to not be able to go to the mall and buy cute pants! It seems like its getting a little easier to find long stuff the heavier I get. Lane Bryants pants are long enough...but I'm not going to shop there forever! :-)
I'm about 6'1" tall as well, 20 years old. According to CC I also have a small frame. I started my weight loss around 170 and am now down to 155. My goal is 145 but depending on how I feel when I get to 150 I might just stop there :)
It is definitely a little frustrating when you lose so much and can't even go down a pants size when your "shorter" friend loses about 6-8 pounds and looks amazingly skinnier! haha but I guess it better for the opposite when we gain weight.
I used to swim and in high school I wasn't quite as tall, probably closer to 5'9" or 10" and weighed 113 pounds(I now realize that was way too skinny)! I ate like crazy and didn't worry about anything I put in my mouth. Its so hard to go from eating whatever whenever to counting calories of anything I put in my mouth! Those darn college pounds! aha
Hi, I'm 6'0" and am roughly 158 lbs. I've been trying to get down to about 145 but it is proving to be very difficult as I've been this weight for about 6 years now. So right now I'm just focusing mainly on toning up and building muscle as oppossed to losing weight but if it happens, added bonus:)
Nice to hear from all the other tall ladies here though!
Jan,
5'10'' is plenty tall enough. great job on the loss!! I bet you feel great!!!
At 5'11', I also fit into this club. I wish I was as small as you ladies. I'm at 246, down 30 from where I started. I am a larger frame, so my ultimate goal is to get down to 180. It still seems like a long way to go, but when I thnk of what I've already lost, I can say that I'm a third of the way there.
Being a larger-framed woman, I would like to lose enough so that I feel feminine. again. I need not only tall sizes in pants, but also in shirts. It's really hard to find tall sizes in shirts for women, so I often find myself shopping in the men's department. (I hate it when long sleeves hit me and inch above the wrist!! Ahh!) Eddie Bauer carries tall tops for women, but they stop at size 18 or so. I need to get small enough that I can fit into those clothes again.
Anyone have similar problems? Any other websites where I can shop for tall shirts?
wow, i've never been one of the short people of a group at 5'10". haha. i was reading through these, not sure if i was tall enough to join but saw other 5'10" girls and also i have alot in common with everyone.
i'm 175lbs right now and trying to get down to at least 160 at first. this website said my goal weight is 153lbs which i hardly was in high school playing three sports so i dunno if that's realistic? it seems awfully low for my height. also i was taking the "body frame" test and according to that i'm a small frame, but i really don't believe that either...i would say i'm medium.
mmdeam,
Great Job on the 30 lbs! That's awesome!! I too hate that I can never find shirts that are long enough!! There is a website that I've found some stuff...

I'm pretty sure the sizes go up to 24 or so. They have a few cute things.
I don't think that the frame measurements are very accurate. All of them say that I'm a medium frame, but I went to a doc once that said that I had one of the biggest bone structures that he has seen.
Mmdeam, don't feel bad, I got you beat on the pounds. ;) I am 6' tall and currently 280 lbs. The BMI for women our size is, in my honest opinion, ridiculous. I'm aiming for 200 pounds - I have a large frame and large muscles. When I get there, I'll reassess, but I doubt I'll ever want to weigh the recommended weight (165 lbs or so).
The BMI chart is made for people with my mother's build - average frame, small muscles.
I would go by what makes you *feel* good and look good and ignore the numbers, for the most part, except as a generalized goal.
Oh, and Erinw43 - I am built like a linebacker and according to their wrist test I have a SMALL frame. I dunno who their wrist test is supposed to work for, but all the women I know that are 6' tall with large frames have very long fingers, too. If I have a 'small frame' then I want to know why I have thicker fingers and larger feet than anyone else at my vet hospital, including the guys that work there!

Ha! Me too!! I'm 5'10" and currently weigh 249, I started at 260!! My goal weight is 157 and I just can't wait to get some of this weight off and at least get down to under 200's. I used to weigh 150 in high school and thought I was a cow. I got down to 135 in my twenties, not sure that is a great weight for me. I tend to stay active and busy, but this current weight of mine is a real burden. I can't wait to get the weight off.
RIght now, the majority of my clothing is purchased at Lane Bryant, especially the pants which you can get really long. Shirts I find in most places, they work, it's the pants I have trouble with.
All the tall ladies are INSPIRING to me!! One more thing on CC I find that I can associate with!! tHANKS
Hello up here! I'm 6' w/ boats for feet and a rear end to match. LOL. Trying to get below 200 but it's a slow road. Started at 290+ in 2005, had a relapse last year, but got back on track again in October 07. Goal is 175, have about 30 pounds to go. I should be around a size 10 at that weight, what a nice dream, LOL.
The lowest weight I can remember was when I weight 188 in the 6th grade. I was always the tallest girl in my class up through the 9th grade.
Target has a good line of Izaac Mizrahi misses' clothes that are long in the inseam, and generous in the seat, usually I take a 14 but if it's cut narrower will get a 16. Banana Republic has wonderful slacks and business wear, often on-sale if you shop on line. I like the "martin" cut the best.
Anyone else have an ample chest and wide shoulders? Oh, and a long waist? I can't stand it when shirts gap or ride up over the belly.
I do some bike racing and triathlons right along with the tiny, skinny racers. I kinda like being Xena the warrior princess.
My SO is 5'10", we feel very well matched though. I never went for really tall men, and often found them looking for women in the 5'2" range.
Hope everyone is loud and proud today, and treats themselves to healthy choices.

I'm 6'1'' too... the highest I ever remember being is 237 when I was 14. At 19, I'm currently 166 and size 9/10. Although I look much different than I did at 237, the 10 I've lost since the start of the year haven't seem to made much of a difference at all. I think that by being taller, we lose just a tiny bit in a whole bunch of random places rather than just a lot in 1 place cuz we're spread out a lil more. I'm trying to get down in the range of 150-155, but really care about flattening out my stomach more than anything else. For my height and weight, you'd think I wouldn't have a ton of fat left, but definitely have quite the flabby stomach and can't figure out how to get rid of it. Oh and the body frame estimator on here is DEFINITELY wrong.. it classifies me as a small frame, but I have broad shoulders and the longest fingers of anyone I know so I'm sure that probably throws it off a lil.
As for clothes, I've found that the whole trend of "layering" tends to work out to tall girls' advantage. They now sell really light weight t-shirts and tank tops that are extra long and intended for layering, but I find them to be just the right length.. it also helps to have a bunch of them in various colors lying around because then I can throw a really cute shirt thats too short on top of it and still have a good outfit. As for jeans though... it seems hopeless. I have around a 36" inseam and can't walk into any store in the mall and find jeans long enough for a reasonable price.
Hope everyone has a good day :)
I am 6 feet and currently weight 233 and my goal is to get down to 190. I think going any lower with my body frame will make me look sickly. I was blessed with hips and I know getting down to 170 would not be in my best interests. Even though we are tall, we have to look at our body frames. Some frames just don't look good at a lower weight.
I think if you know you look good at 185 then do it! I know I want to look toned and healthy and I think that will happen at 190. Good luck!!!!
Crasle--....for a reasonable price. That seems to the main hurdle, don't you think? If a person goes to any cheap store in the mall, they can find petite and regular length clothes cheap. But just because the add an extra 2 or 3 inches to the length, they raise the price by $4 or $5. And that's if you can find them! Sure, I can go online and find some, but then I end up paying even more because of the shipping and handling. This might not seem like an important thing for some people, but with 4 kids, I can't afford to spend a lot on my clothes. Ya know those little cards they sometimes hand out after you've shopped somewhere? I've even went so far to make the suggestion that they could reach a whole other group of shoppers if they carried longer lengths for women.
On the brighter note....I'm enjoying getting into clothes I haven't worn in several years. It's almost like shopping...I'm wearing "new" clothes and it's not costing a thing!
