Ouch! Braces...
Hey!
I am currently trying to gain weight and am in recovery from Anorexia. I'm doing well and have been slowly but steadily gaining for a few months. But I got braces put in yesterday and my mouth hurst SO much. I've already lost some weight from having the bands in last week, and it being too painful to eat.
Today I have just had really soft things - porridge, mashed banana, soup, and mushed up weetabix with milk(!) - but its only come to under 1250 calories, which is no way near enough!! I'm normally on at least 2500!!
Any ideas for what I can do?! I am going to buy some build-up drinks soon :-)
Thanks!

deff oatmeal which you can increase cals by adding PB, whole milk..
cream soups, chili, stews
ice cream, ice cream shakes
whole milk, yogurt, smoothies
take tylenol and after a couple days itll be ok
I know Agru's got a couple of these already but I'm listing from the top of my head: whole fat dairy, mince based foods like shepherds and cottage pie, chilli, stew, soups, oils in cooking and as dressing, avocado, soft fruits and small dried fruits, fruit purees, smoothies, shakes, dense nutrition drinks, nut butters, beans and baked beans, cream based sauces, spaghetti and other noodles, mashed potatoes, porridge of all grain types (not just oats, folks), honey, jams, preserves, rice pudding, small grains like rice and couscous, muesli, sweetcorn, peas, vegetables blended into a sauce (no missing out on your daily veg!), toast cut to small squares and topped with something from the list above.
I've got braces too (train tracks)
ive had them in like a year
try not to worry because they do settle down and you will be able to eat harder denser foods soon enough. Its mostly sticky sweets you should avoid, and whne chewing hard foods just be a bit careful. But other than that I can manage to eat pretty much anything, although its kinda gutting having to pick bits of hazelnuts out my teeth :( lol

Relax, I've had my braces for over a year. They're not going to stay sensitive long. When you first get them on, it takes a week or two to get used to it. Then, when you go to the orthodontist to get checked, they'll change the configuration of wires and/or rubber bands. A few hours after it'll be sensitive. But that's all.
I keep a tube of Ambesol on hand. Put on the gums, it sooths the sensation. Short-term.
The energy drinks like Ensure would be help-ful in the short term, as an aid.
