I'm curious.  I know when I was young (I'm 39 now), the Ouija Board was a HUGE thing.

Have any of you ever used one?  Have you ever had any less-than-fun experiences with it?

I would never use one. I believe in the spirit world and i don't want to piss it off.
Ahhhhh.  Yes, as an *adult* now, I also have strong beliefs in the spirit world.  As a kid, however, it was all about a game.

Suuuuure.  That was until one of us asked if the board was run by the Devil.  And the slider literally FLEW off the board to the left, the board itself went to the right, and there was a HUGE gush of wind.

We ended up burying the board far in the back of our property (on an acreage at the time), until it appeared again in my sister's closet.  We then burned it in a huge bonfire.

To this very day the thought of it sends chills down my spine.

*Shudders*
I've always believed in the spirit world. My uncle's a medium of sorts, and my mum's always believed.
You're telling ME, rainbow!  I still remember the confusion...even shaking of the head, knowing full well we had buried it.

Not a childish fantasy or made-up memory, truly happened and scared the bejesus out of all of us.

Needless to say, I have educated *my* girls alllllllllllllll about the Ouija Board.  They're scared of it and have never even laid eyes on one!

Just the way I like it.  :o)
once at a sleepover in 4th grade we were CONVINCED we had contacted jack the ripper and that we were all going to be killed. the next morning my next door neighbor confessed to being the one that moved the pointer and none of us would play with her for weeks, hahaha.
Years ago, I was probably 18, I was using one with a friend.  At one point my fingers got cold and the cold creeped up my arms and then all over my body.  I was a horrible person for several days after that, true honest to goodness (word that cannot be used here).  Another friend, believer in the spirit world, gave me a coin that he said would help rid me of the spirit inhabiting me.  The cold went away, as did the poor attitude.

I haven't touched one since, but I have had them react very badly in my presence.
Vstar, I've heard similar stories like yours.  Apparently the "cold" feeling...of it travelling....is when a spirit (usually a negative one is related with the cold) is entering your body.  And...takes over your "being".  Scary ****.  SCARY ****.

Your story made me giggle, sarah. LOL! :oD
Oh, it was definitely negative!  I was a really rotten person for those few days.  I mean, just nasty.  Of course, I have such a sparkling personality anyway, some said it was hard to tell......LMAO!!!

Honestly, I'm not a huge believer in that sort of thing, so for it to happen to me was interesting.
I dont have one of those boards... but i have something really close. Its a kind of wooden frame that summons spirits. I used to not believe in ghosts and things... but after i got this thing from a friend, its NO DOUBT there are ghosts.

Its so spooky... when you look into this frame with the lights out (pitch dark) and then slowly bring up the lights (so you can just see a little bit)... a ghost normally appears right in the middle!! Im not making this up!

The freaking thing even moves! And it looks right at you... its so creepy. Everyone in my family has seen it even.

Whats even more creepy is that this thing can change its freaking shape! For every person that looks at it, it is different (none of my family could see the one i saw, i dont get it).

When i looked at it, the ghost was male. And he had eyes just like me (and kept staring at me.. creepy). He even had the same clothes on! And when i moved...he would copy me!

However the frame makes a portal into the ghost world...i have no idea.... its solid in the middle, so i dont think they can come out.

I guess its not quite the same as the boards your talking about, but its really close! 100 percent proof there are ghosts to anyone that looks into it!
Minbin - I totally agree with you. I beileve in the spirit world and I'm not messing with it!
Done it loads of times (50+)

Sorry to disappoint you all, but its all subconscious. Which is why most of the "spirits" are evil, ppl believe they will be, and what they "say" is usual random letters. I'm not saying people are pushing the glass, but the little pressure you have on it actually makes a difference, and you are guiding it- otherwise, why doesn't the glass move with no one near it?

Derren Brown proved it a myth. For those who don't know him, he's a "psychological illusionist"- and does things that seem like magic, but he shows it's actually mind tricks.

Anyway- on one of his shows, he invited a group of people to do a board- they believed they were talking to a "dead" girl- the glass even flew across the room- turns out the girl was alive and well, and it was their belief that had made it move.

Power of the mind- same reasons why placebos work, because people believe they will.
I can summon ghosts without one of those boards....I just visit the local old age home they are all pale kinda spooky looking with no teeth, thats enough ghostly excitement for me.
I used one of those with a friend once, and like what weirdkitty desccribed, I think what happened was because of what my friend wanted to believe in her subconscious. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ideomotor_effect

The pointer thing did move around the board, with no help from me, and did spell out a name.  Apparently the child "spirit" was from 13th century France - but saw fit to communicate to us in English.

My friend claimed she got really cold, and felt the presence in the room, and then had nightmares about it.  I was comfortable the whole time, and slept fine.

Not saying that other's experiences were the same, only that mine was less than convincing.  I'm not sure how a manufacturer in China for Parker Brothers has a connection with the spririt world, but strange things happen every day.
santonacci's experience is the same as most  that try this.

I bet the 13th century "spirit" didn't give you any pinpoint dates, places, full names, details etc that you could have looked up.

Has anyone ever got this information from a "spirit" before? If I was summoned after being dead for a while I would want to do nothing more than chat away about me. I admit that i did use to believe in it, but once you really start thinking about it, you see the flaws
my bf's stepbrother told me about a time when they used it.  I think my bf was around 9 and his stepbro was 12-13.  They were using it and someone called "satan" contacted them.  They didn't believe it, so they asked where are you.  He said he was under the bed.  Again, they didn't believe it, so they told him to prove it.  My bf's brand new bed fell apart at the welded metal joints.  I asked his mom if she had ever bought him a new bed and then it fell apart and she said yes and no one could figure out why it happened.  Freaky.

whether its from Parker Brothers or not, just the look of the thing creeps me out! Im not trying to invite any unwanted visitors into my house!!
Lorik,

heh, heh.

I have something like that too, but no frame though.

It's pretty large, and I once saw TWO "entities" in there at the same time - and they sometimes go to different parts of the house.

santonacci - I would be getting rid of that!  Doesnt it freak you out?
Lorik, is that riddle and you have a mirror?  lol

I don't think anyone should play with those as you are just inviting spirits into your home.  And think about it, what spirits are hanging around waiting to be invited into your home - the bad ones.
I have used a Ouija board, one that was homemade and the accual board.  My mom taught me how to use it, of all people.  lol  When she was a younger her and her best friend use it and it freaked them out.  They got so scared that they hid it under her bed, then all of a sudden the bed started to shake.  No one was in the house at the time, just the two of them.  I haven't had any bad experiences with it though.
