I'm at about 270 and would really like to be down around 170 for my wedding in two years!
Big Red Fancy Hearts to Everyone!

Hey guys, I need some motivation. During the past month I made great progress on my diet, but only 5 weeks into it, I've hit a plateau. I'm still doing great on the diet but have not lost any weight in a week. I've actually gone up a pound and a half.  Pants also not as loose as they were.  Plus, I've been fighting a headache for a few days and a stiff neck, so I'm cranky and don't feel like putting in any effort. I got my hopes up that my 5 lbs/week loss would keep going and that I'd be in the 220's by now. I'm bummed and want to cry.
To Ski Again,

Don't give up.  Try switching up you plan, more exercise or more food for a couple of days.  A plateau is when your body gets used to your routine.  If you keep your body guessing then you should start dropping back down.
Yes, Happy Valentine's Day to you all as well.  Hope everyone is having a decent food day.  I made a great lunch last night and forgot it at home today.  So I ended up eating about about 200 more cals for lunch than I had planned, but at least it was still healthy food.  I had some cream of mushroom soup and whole wheat crackers from a friend, then ate a can of mandarin oranges/peaches that was the only food I had in my office at work.  It was more cals than I wanted, but I needed something to tide me over till home time. :)
Hey Ski... don't give up.  5lbs a week happens near the start b/c at our size, we HAVE that much to lose.  But as all the data out there says, much more than 2lbs a week really isn't healthy.  And you want to do this long term and have it last, right?  So best to be the turtle rather than the hare.  Slow and steady wins the race.

The 5 week mark was my first plateau too.  I upped the exercise and got over the hump.  You can too.  Don't give up, but cry if it helps! :)  And don't forget if you are exercising you're starting to build muscle too.  There are just so many variables.... so try and keep that in mind and just remember it won't happen on its own.

We're here for ya!
ski,

Try drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day. Also I kicked the caffiene, cuz they say it slows down weight loss. I very seldom ever drink diet soft drinks. I don't know if that will work or not but I hope it helps. :>)    &nb sp;               &nb sp;               &nb sp;
craftin4me...i tried e-mailing you today but it was sent back to me....
Hi everyone.  I recently joined this site and so far I love it.  Reading all the progress you guys have made is great motivation.  I have about 100 pounds to lose.  It's going to be a long journey but I think this site will help me get there.  It's going to be fun sharing encouragement and hopefully receiving it as well here.  I am very excited.  I start tomorrow, since I didn't register here until after 10pm tonight, so we'll see how it goes, and maybe this time next week I will be telling you guys how much I have LOST!
Twins mom,

I am new too, just joing C-C on Mon, and my hubby joined on Tues.  I am really looking forward to the support of this group.  I check the posting everyday.

I have about 80 lbs to lose give or take! I don't want to be "skinny" but healthy. I'm currently sitting at about 240. But I started at 264!

Ski Again,

Don't worry about the plateau, I hit one too, as most of us do! Just keep at it and you'll be over the bump in no time.
Hi all! I have about 120lbs to loose. I'm currently at 298... I'm freaking out because I was down to almost 270 and then the scale just kept creeping up...

I'm hoping to be starting Weight Watchers next week. Any ideas? Thoughts? sucess?

Thankx!
This is a great thread.  It's depressing to read some of the other threads where people who weigh 140 lbs. are complaining they can't lose 5 lbs.  I know it's important to them, but I just can't relate.

I need to lose 200 lbs. more, after losing 29.5 lbs. already.  It's been hard, but seeing the pounds come off (unlike they ever have) has been very motivating.  I found an endocrinologist who specializes in treating obesity.  I was very skeptical of medications, but he recommended (and takes himself) Meridia.  I remember hearing all the nightmares of phen/fen.  I did a lot of research on Meridia and decided to take it.  It's been on the market many years now, so there has been time for any major problems to have become apparent.  The main risks are increased pulse and blood pressure in a small number of people (which in turn could potentially result in a heart attack or other vascular problems).  I knew, though, that I couldn't keep doing nothing because that obviously hasn't worked, and the weight is killing me anyway, so why not take a chance.

I can't stress how much this medication helps.  I used to think about food 23.99 hours a day.  Now I only think about it when I'm actually hungry.  The clinic I go to requires dietician visits every time and strongly recommends the weight classes they give.  They are very non-judmental and treat obesity as a disease.  I've never felt like they think I'm a lazy slob.  I was also found to be hypothyroid and Vitamin D deficient.  With treatment of those, I have more energy and am less achy, so I feel better exercising.  I know myself and that I really need to walk on the treadmill 45-60 min. per day to continue to lose weight, so I'm working on that.  Some days, I get there.  I think I should start to lift weights to build muscle (and not lose it with weight loss).  Have any of you found a good program?

My blood pressure used to run 145-155/90-100 even with blood pressure pills.  Last time it was 106/75!  So, for me, the medication has had a beneficial effect on my BP because of the weight loss.  I've noticed no obvious side effects.  The doc says dry mouth is usually the biggest one.

I would strongly recommend, if it's available in your area, finding a reputable physician/clinic who specializes in obesity treatment.  Often endocrinologists do, and many university hospitals/clinics have weight management programs.
Hey Girls,

Craftin4me, thanks for hte warm welcome.

This week I have just been tracking my eating habits, to see where I stand before I change things.  From what I can tell my eating habits are good. I have been eating this way for years and still can not manage to loose weight.  I have put my number below (today doesn't include dinner yet), I am averaging an "A".  I have also been working out regularly, within my target heartrate. Any insight would be appreciated!

So how are my fellow 200+ Crew doing today?  Everyone having a healthy Thursday?  I am so far, but evenings are my tough time usually.

I am just about done work and heading off to the gym.  I didn't get to go for my regular Tuesday workout b/c I had to go home and meet the plumber.  So I really feel like I need to get back there today.

Take care everyone and keep up the good work!
lightnin,

Probably cuz there is an underscore between the s and the 8 iln the address. But it doesnt show up when I type it in. I dont know why, but I will email you and you can get it then. K? :>)
tameika78,

I love this group, I think you will too. We're all in this together.  So I feel better knowing I have you guys here to help. If I can help anyone let me know. I just started here on 2/11/07, but I've lost 6 pounds so far. But I have a long way to go.

I exercised with my daughter To Richard Simmons today, OOOMMMMGGGG. I thought I would pass out! I didn't think that tape would end. But I hung in there! Hope it will be a little easier next time :>)
Hey twinsmom,

don't give up. This is a great place for support. Everyone is here for ya.
Thanks for the encouragement, everyone! My weight/size still hasn't budged, but I have been adding more calories and excercise. As far as water goes, I'm really good about drinking at least 64 oz a day, but I have noticed I'm not peeing as much, so that could be part of it. I have noticed that I am getting stronger, though, and that is awesome for me! I actually played with my son at the park and didn't get winded or tired. I'm going to start an excercise routine today that incorporates my ski boots/skis so I can find out which muscles I need to work on. If I can get strong enough to pull myself up off the ground and stay in a bent knee position for a decent amount of time, I am going to try skiing again next month. It's been 15 years!  Ya don;t see many 235lb 40-something women on the slopes, so it should be interesting at the least!

(oh yeah, and if that happens, I'll be sure to post some photos!)
Just checking in on you all. No change hear. But my daughter is doing well. She lost 6lbs -first week. Ski, looking forward to the pictures! Take  care
how's everyone doing????i've lost 12 pounds so far....and thats with not so great weekend eating....lets keep encouraging each other....
