What a great place! I just found it today when I was looking for calories and fat grams for some things. Now I've logged in my food and exercise and all that other stuff here.

I'm at 220 today. 40 y.o. female, just under six feet tall. I lift weights hard and heavy plus walking. And I absolutely avoid anything that joggles my boobs! (Which is why I love weightlifting) I'm at a size 16, down from an 18 when I started.

It's weird how I can look in the mirror and think "I'm lookin' pretty good" and then get my kids to take a picture and can't stand how fat I look in it. Does anyone else ever notice that difference? It makes me wonder if other people see us the way we see ourselves in the mirror or the way we look in photos.
hey cherylcs,

If you need support, this is a good place to get it. Glad you are here.
ok, here i am at 265 and hating it. I am as heavy now as i was when i was pregnant with my youngest child ( he is now 8). I never lost the weight after having him. Did get down to 245 or so, but since my wedding (17 months ago) put it all back on. Don't really mind so much how I look ( ok, that's a lie), but more how i feel. Heels hurt, knees and ankles crack, dont have any sex life ( r we allowed to mention that here?).  Just need people to talk to that can relate and that hopefully i can help out to.
Hi everyone.  New to calorie-count.   I was hoping there was a section for me on here!   I need to lose 50-80 pounds.  My current weight is 210.   I have lost 2 lbs this past week.   I know this is water loss but I am proud of myself.   In the past that is probably what I've been missing.   I don't know about the rest of you but I have done this so many times and regained.   This time I weighed myself and said "it is what it is" and its time to "get moving".    Would love to have support and the goal of getting healthy and staying healthy with others
Welcome to calorie count. Good luck on losing weight. I lost 3lbs pounds first week it sure does feel good to see the scale go down rather then up.
Good afternoon, I just registered on calorie count today as well and this looked like a good thread to start posting in.  I've been hovering around 210 - 220 for some time now and finally reached a point mentally where things need to change.

Currently I'm at 212 and just started the new diet this past Monday.  It's not gonna be easy, but I'm hoping to drop about 40.  So I look forward to chatting with everyone on here.
Madmom39-

Welcome! On January 2 I started at the EXACT same number as you! I am down to about 193 consistantly. I have been eating between 1200-1400 calories a day. I haven't worked out yet, but my tax return present is an elliptical machine.

Lots of luck to you! Trust me, you can get there! :-)

~Amanda
Thanks for the encouraging words.  An elliptical machine is a good choice, I'm hoping to get a treadmill eventually.  It's so much easier doing that stuff at home than having to go to a gym.  If the weather was warmer here I would be out walking/jogging everyday.
well i definitely qualify for the club! I started here at the end of December at about 236lbs (i couldnt bring myself to actually enter that number so i pretended i was 230). I did pretty good in January, then kinda fell off in February and have totally revamped the diet this week. I'm down to 229 lbs and hope to be 200 by June 17 when I graduate! I"m actually making it to the gym more now than I did in January so I'm hoping to see soem good results!

My friend introduced me to this site and I love it!!  This is the club for me.  I am 30 and 288 lbs.  I want to have a kid in the next few years and there is no way I can do it at my weight!  Also my friend is getting married and as a bridesmaid I will not be all dressed up and round.  So many reasons to loose now I just gotta do it!  I have been recording my food and I am shocked at how many calories I eat.  How oh how do I cut back?  Where do I even start?  I use to eat a tonne of fast food and now only 1 day a week but even cutting that out I am eating well over 2000 cals a day!  Any suggestions on cutting back?
avonna- you can't just "cut back" on what you eat, you have to change what you eat, replacing high calorie foods for more fruits, veggies, and healthier options. It's a huge change in lifestyle and takes a while to get used to, but it's totally possible! I used to eat fast food way too much and now I only get it every couple of weeks, if even that much. it's just not something i want to eat now that I've been eating healthier. you'll find that after eatign healthy stuff for a while, your body won't like the unhealthy stuff so much which is great because it reminds you of how hard you've been working. check out the foods forum for healthy ideas.

Hey y'all...first time posting here...have been purusing around for tips and to record activity and food intake.

Where to start?  I'm 36 (barely!) and weigh in at 236.  I'm 5'6" and  I wear a size 14/16.  Um..what else can I tell you?  I successfully lost about 60 pounds few years ago, got pregnant again, treated it like a free for all buffet, and gained 100 pounds.  Have lost some and gained some since, but just started getting serious and healthy about three months ago.  What did I learn from that experience?  Starving yourself is not a reliable, sustainable tool for weight loss!

I eat all organic foods, don't drink milk or eat dairy (sometimes I do have cheese, though!)  Overall, we eat very healthy at my house...I work out 4x every week, usually on the bike and with weights for a total of about two hours.  You'd think I'd actually be losing weight, huh??  No such luck.  My clothes are fitting better and people have asked if I've lost weight, but what gives?  At this weight, I should definately be dropping more than two pounds in seven weeks!!!

So there you have it, my tale of woe.  Thankfully, I'm not discouraged enough to quit working out, I love how it makes me feel and the sense of accomplishment I gain.  Bummer about the scale, though!  Seems like everyone here is quite supportive, and that is wonderful...just what the doctor ordered.
Hey ya'll from Alabama.  My first post. I have lost and gained a million pounds in my life.  I am 41 years old and have only 9 more years to look like the Bowflex grandma on TV.   I started at 255 in December and now down to 235 and I am STUCK.  I have increased the intensity of my workouts but have a feeling that I am being lazy about my food choices.  I am battling increased hunger.  I have tried to include more protein but have a hard time with protein choices.  I am really tired of chicken!  Just putting this in writting helps put me on the path of reconizing what I need to do to turn this around.

Greetings from So. Cal.  Maxmom, like you, I have lost and gained many pounds and I know that in itself is unhealthy.

I am a grandmother and am beginning to have serious health issues.  I am only 5'2" and weighed in at 226 when I joined CC yesterday.  I had a visit from an old friend this past week and it was a real eye opener.  He has never had a serious weight problem but showed up at his perfect weight.  Can you imagine how embarrassed I was?

I am not going on a diet, I am altering my diet!  After shopping at a healthy market today I arrived home with salmon, prepared turkey meatloaf and sausage, low calorie cheese, raw almonds and plenty of fruits and veggies.

Having recently purchased an elliptical I am a bit discouraged that I can't stay on long so I have been doing just over a minute several times a day hoping I can gain momentum.

I think CC is awesome and feel it is just the tool I need to stay focused.  I, too, stumbled on it by accident but are there really accidents such as this?

Thanks to all who have posted, it makes the ride a bit easier knowing I am not by myself.
Hello everyone: I´m also a beginner and quite tired of feeling in pain (knees, heels and always tired). On feb 21st i started with a Juice fasting (i know that was abrupt) for a whole week, i felt so much better. Right now, i´m trying the "reverse diet". But i´m pretty hungry all the time, because i´m counting and measuring my food (i was not used to that at all).

My question is : am I in starvation mode?..or just getting my body used to lower (much lower than binging ) portions of food. I notice after 2 hours I´m hungry!. I´m drinking tea...but it´s so HARD!!

Good thing i found this site!...finally people i can relate to!
Welcome to all newcomers! I, too, found this site by 'accident', but I believe it to be a tremendous help to me.  I began on 1/2/07 at 304, and today I'm at 282. I, also, have lost and gained enough weight in my lifetime to sink a ship! This time, I'm totally convinced that I can live the rest of my life, eating like I am eating. Previously, I'd hindered my metabolism so much by not eating much, that I was eating very little food, and of course, what I did eat was junk.I believe I was in starvation mode most of the time. I'm eating much more food, between 1300-1400 cal a day, with one day a week about 1500-1600. I'm eating several times a day, and can honestly say I've not been hungry.  I have had a couple of cravings, but nothing like it used to be. I have some major health problems and, have not excerised at all.  I hope to start water therapy soon, and believe this will help greatly too.

I think the trick is not to limit your choices tremendously.  For instance, I know I really can eat whatever I want to eat, if i CHOOSE to.  Chocolate is my best friend, lol...and sometimes i think I have to have it.  So, I bought a yummy 100 cal dark choc bar, and I know when the craving hits, if I've not gone over my cal limit for the day, I can enjoy one.  The box of 8 lays on my counter in plain view, they are available, I can have it, kwim?  But , in two months, I've only eaten part of one box.

I just know that I've tried every diet there is, and if I'm severely limited to what I can eat, I won't stick with it. I have gradually replace items with the healthier versions, ie wheat breads, no or low fat versions, etc.

For the first time in a very long time, I really think this journey might be possible! And, I believe, I can and will do it!  And, so can we all!
Welcome to all of you. I have also been with CC since Jan 07 and it has been extremely helpful. I log on everyday for motivation.

I agree with scott14... The secret is the lifestyle change. Also, writing down what you eat (or entering it in the CC data base) is essential because we don't always realize how much we eat.

mhiley, whether it is organic food or regular food, I think it is the calories that count. For instance, two glasses of flavored soy milk can be awfully high in calories. Also... if you're doing weights, remember that muscle mass weighs more than fat. So you may not be seing a big change on the scale but you certainly should see it in the fit of your clothes.

Jeanran, you're on the right track... Keep it up with the elliptical. Keep a log of your total time everyday and you will see an improvement over a month. Also... Measure your waist, your thighs and whatever else you want to keep track of! Sometimes measurements are a better indicator than the scale.

Good luck to all of you and... to myself! With work and dedication we will make it!
i am at 232 and my problem seems to be that I am used to fad diets and I want results NOW!!! I hear the voice inside my head saying...THE SCALE IS NOT MOVING....DO SOMETHING!!!!lol

Hi just found this site today by accident went to the doctors yesterday my weight was 221 I have never been this heavy. I am 56 with a history of high blood pressure and heart disease.  I need to lose this weight.  I am glad I found this site I have tried diets in the past with little success. Any help would be appreciated.  I need to lose 90lbs.  thanks
Seems like there are a lot of other new comers  in this forum along with myself, feels good to know I'm not alone.

Well I'm on Day 4 and so far so good.  I know it's still very early into the change in foods I'm now intaking, but I do feel good about the path I'm leading myself down.

Last night I had a big test, my brother is visiting me from Florida and he wanted to get food from a local sub shop that he misses going to.  So he gets this delicious looking italian sub and is eating it in front of me while watching tv.  He offers me some, I politely decline, and instead proceed to grill some turkey breast for dinner.  I have a feeling the more I get used to turning unhealthy stuff down, the easier it will get in time.
