I want to start a club for those of us who have a lot of pounds to lose. Anyone interested?
Yes this message board, BLOG is a good source for knowledge transfer as well as a sounding board, venting, and of course encouragement as well as successes.
Good Luck to all. I am a permanent member I will always be in the 200 club. Dr. said I shouldn't nor ever go under 225. He said I will have a hard time getting there let alone staying there I will have to work hard. So my goal is to get there first and see....I am just about 20 lbs away.

I am new to the site and I would like to congrats everyone that is on the road to a healthier lifestyle.
I weight 234 and have been on the Atkins diet for five days now. I have been heavy 90% of my life. Everytime we move I seem to put on even more. After my second child my energy and commitment to lose weight went away. Food is my comfort and friend. Really I need to find a new friend. I love to cook but not the good stuff. Sweets are my specialty.
On Monday I woke up and said that is that I need to get in shape and start a healthy lifestyle for myself. I have some much to live now instead of food.
I hope I can find the support here to keep we going. I put a picture of myself when I lost weight 7 years ago, so I know I can do it. My goal is to weight 145. This is my lowest weight since high school.
Wish me luck!

why on earth would your doctor tell you to NOT go under 225?
I am down to 245 only 20 more lbs. to hit my goal.
Michelle- it isn't so much that I really shouldn't go under 225 he doesn't think with my body build and type that it wouldn't be healthy for me. I am large boned and build just naturally muscular. It will be hard for me to maintain that weight and going down lower would be that much harder. With my exercise plan, I am putting on more lean muscle and it weighs more than fat. I wouldn't gain anything benefits from going down lower than what I am now he said even at 225 my health would be about the same. Plus that seems to be a good weight for me to be at just judging from what I am seeing in myself as well.
Katmad-Be careful of the Adkins diet it is only for short term weight loss it isn't good for you body to be on it very long and it is hard on your system, you need some carbs for your body to function. This group that you find on this website is awesome!!! All of them are very friendly and helpful if you have any questions feel free to post them or if you are having a hard time post them as well you will get all the help you need.

OK club...encourage me! The weight is coming off soooo slowly now, and after hurting my neck doing crunches 2 weeks ago, I haven't been excercising like I had been.
Looks like I may only have lost 4 lbs this entire month! My goal is 8-10 per month!
Here's the deal: my short-term goal is coming up...I need to lose 22.5 lbs more by April 10th. Is it possible? How do you guys motivate? Any suggestions on how to do it?

Hi everyone!
I am 37, 5'4" and 273 lbs. I lost about 5 lbs over the winter during an illness and I think I lost a couple pounds before I bought a scale and started weighing in. If I could get below 200 I would be THRILLED! I struggled with eating issues in high school and college - and know my setpoint is higher than average for my height and body type.
I work in non-profit recreation and am amazed at how much more energy I have after just losing a few pounds. I am making sure I eat 3 meals a day, even if I only have a Luna bar or banana and coffee for breakfast. I'm also doing my best to get a good 1.5 to 2 mile walk in several times a week (about 30 minutes) My husband is in about the same shape as I and has set a goal of running in the WDW half marathon in January 2009!
I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you!

After gaining back every pound I lost while on Atkins, I'm back in the over 200 club. I weighed in at 211 this morning. My goal is about 150. I honestly have no idea when the last time I weighed that little was! I was 210 when I was a freshman in high school (1991, that was), and I've gone up and down since then (up to 230, down to 175-ish).
I was 220 just 2 weeks ago, though, so the healthy life is working! :-)

Motivation that is hard. We here at the wonderful 200 club do what we can to help out with that, but most of it has to come with in you!! We are not there with you physically, but we are here if you need anything as far as questions answered or just a pep talk if you have a bad day calorie wise or just in general. Over all though this is something you have to want and strive for. I myself dabbled with this at the start. Then I fell off the wagon and gained a lot of it back. I then said to myself-self get off your fat *ss and get to work. I have now lost a total of 65 lbs in little over a year I have 20 more to go to reach my goal. Yes, it seems slow, but it is best healthiest way to go the weight off. The more I loose the better I feel..the better I feel the more motivated I am to loose..the more I loose the better I look..etc. It all starts with you, you have to be the one to tell yourself that you are ready for a change and willing to look at it as a life change not just a diet because this really isn't a diet it is a life style change. Adkins is a diet, Weight Watchers is a diet, Slim-In-6 is a diet..this is a life change for the better!!!
Good Luck to all!!!
Good Luck to all!!!
Hey, guess what!
I resisted temptation today! I took my car in for an oil change and was told that it needs like 900 dollars worth of stuff done. I totally stressed out and I came with in inches of snagging one of the free donuts on the table... But I didn't do it. I told myself it wasn't worth it. Choclate covered entimenes goodness, but I realized that my wanting it was a stress reaction. That is the first time that I successfully avoided using food to relieve my stress! So
Yeah ME! (lol) Jenn

I think I'll join you all here. I'm 21 and I had my daughter in june 06. When I was pregnant with her, I went up to about 210 from 170. After she was born, I wasn't able to lose much weight at all. I may have gone down to 191. Lately I have been up 200 fluxuating between 198.8 and 204. I know its in the low 200's but I promised myself I'd never get this high. My senior year in HS I was down at my lowest 135, mainly around 145 or so. I have been heavier most of my life, and I want that to change. I want so bad to get back down into my size 11 jeans I have in storage..... I guess I really got to stick to this and make it work...
I can relate mickismommy, just found out we need to rebuild transmission($2,400 yikes!) I wasn't relating my sudden desire to eat everything in sight to that distressing news but now that I make the connection I can look at it with some objectivety. thanks. I am 289 down from 303. So far to go. It can be hard to not get overwhelmed. Off topic note: mickismommy watch out for those oil change places. They can come up with all kinds of stuff that may or may not be necessary.
Yeah, Im taking it to midas today to see if any of that accually needs to get done! They'll do it for cheaper, too!
Stress and emotional eating is a HUGE problem for me, has been my whole life. I eat to feel better and stifle my emotions, then I feel guilty for overeating. I am really focusing right now on eating only to nurish my body. It doesn't always work. Sometimes I eat something that just plain tastes good! I am really trying to not overeat. Why am I so weak! It is like a constant struggle. Jenn

Mickismommy, if you want to add me as a friend maybe we could encourage each other. It's hard and i think it helps to have support. I've lost 14lbs and still so far to go but it sure feels good to be going in the right direction. This is the longest I've stuck with something since 2001 when I lost 40 on low carb. This will be so much easier to stick with long term.

I would like to join this group and get feedback and support from other people with some of the same goals. As of 2/1/07 i was at a plump 379...as of today i am at 372.
I went down to 364 in about 3 weeks on atkins...(what do you think of Atkins)...A nutritionist set me up on an eating plan around 2000 calories and I went up.
My actual short term goal is 355 (at that point i become eligable for Bariatric Surgery)
Thanks
Mike

semi-new here too. Would really love to be a part of a challenge.. Whenever a new one starts.. I need to lose 90lbs and currently weigh 230.
Mike, not to affend you or anyone here who has used Atkins, but me personally I think it's a bad idea. People need carbs to lose weigh healthily.. On Atkins of cource your going to lose weight quickly, your starving and only really losing water weight. I also think that in the long run, you end up putting weight back on. It's just not a long term solution for a long term problem. That's just my opinion though.

dtpatty, there's a 200+ Biggest Loser challenge going on right now, did you join up?
And I did the "Atkins portion" of the South Beach diet, for three weeks. No carbs for three weeks. I dropped 30lbs. For the first time in YEARS, I got down to 250 (I've been in the 280s/290s for some while.)
And then one day I had an apple and I swear I think I gained 10lbs. The "re-introducing carbs" portion of it didn't SLOW my weight loss, it seemed to reverse it entirely. It was so depressing. I tried it again a couple times afterward, but the thought of going through sugars withdrawal just to regain it all back really bummed me out, so I quit.
I will tell you this, though - it is nice to know what I know now about carbs, and which foods I can have a lot of, and which foods will leave me feeling fuller longer. So the diet was really useful in that way.

I just learned about this site not too long ago. I went to the doctor, and I am sooo upset with myself. I am 5'4" and 201 right now, this is the heaviest I have been in 6 years! I was at 160 back in 2005, wow how the weight has just piled up for the last couple years. I need to get the motivation to go to the gym, and I think I just got it from the numbers on the scale at the doctor office. Hopefully I can get the motivation mentally and also by reading what others have posted on here as well. It's amazing to see what I consume on a daily basis, writing it down is a great way for a reality check! Good luck to everyone, and wish me luck too!
