Hello guys, I am also new to this site but I really loved this idea and decided to sign up. I started my weight loss journey back in Feb and lost about 20 lbs. I am 255 and my goal is 150 Wow by December. I know it sounds crazy but I think I can do it.

Good luck everyone,
Husam-

You might want to look at this before you set a goal too high for you to reach so quickly. This will help you figure out how many calories you need to eat daily and safely to get down to the weight you want.

Good Luck if you have any questions issue problems please feel free to ask on this site, we are all here in the same boat and are here to help and encourage.
Any advice on fasting?  I want to fast this coming Thursday (from midnight Wednesday to midnight Thursday) drinking fruit juices, veggies juices and water.  This is strictly in regards to a day of prayer, not for weight loss.  I have been losing steadily on this site and I don't want to screw up my metabolism.  So my question is, if I fast for one day, will my metabolism get messed up enough that when I go back to eating the next day, it will make me gain or something else?  I try to limit myself to 1200 calories a day, but go over from time to time and that works for me.  But I am concerned if I should fast -- even if only for one day.  Does anyone have any advice on this?
Thank you Stinky1 for your advice. I actually checked the link you gave me and here is what I got

Calculate Calories Needed for Goal Weight

You should consume about 1763 calories a day to reach your goal weight of 61 kgs by December 26, 2007.

Remember that this estimate is based on your body weight, height, age, gender, and activity level. It may vary slightly depending on other factors.

Generally, women should not consume any less than 1,200 calories per day, and men should not consume less than 1,500 calories per day.

I am actually consuming about 1600-1800 calories a day and working out five times a week. Do you think that this would harm my health or I will end up losing muscle.

Thanks a lot
Hello Everyone!  New to this site and have enjoyed reading your posts.  I'm in the "200 Club" also and need to get out of that and into the "Healthy Club".  Have weighed as much as 350, so I've lost a lot, but still so much more to go.  I'm 57, divorced, live alone and motivation can be a problem for me.  I've also moved to a new area (for my career) and haven't really made any friends or built up a support system.  Would love to hear from anybody in a similar circumstance.

To whoever started the "200 Club" - Thank You.  I look forward to reading, sharing, and hopefully motivating others as well as myself.
Husam-

I think your calorie in take is about perfect so stick with that. I stick with about 2,200 give or take daily just depends on how much I work out and how active I have been. On heavy work out days I eat a little more because I am starving...but as long as it is healthy doesn't matter really...

Depending on your workout. When you say you work out 5 times a week is that just total cardio or is there a mix of weights, on top of that? If you do some weight training along with your normal cardio you will keep your lean muscle and get rid of the fat. A lot of people think that fat turns into muscle that isn't true. Muscle is muscle and fat is fat when you burn off calories it is a mix of both fat and muscle, but mostly fat because muscle is more dense than fat so fat goes first. Muscle weighs more, so if you do cardio every day which I do, but I also toss in weight training 3 times a week that keeps my lean muscle up and fat down. It will also tone up the places that get flabby after loosing the fat, like in your triceps (wings) and your belly flab that happens when your skin has stretched out and hasn't gone back into place. Even with all the abs exercising it may never go away with out having it cut off depending on how much you have.
Well Stinky1,

I was told a long time ago that when you are trying to lose weight, you should not do any weights until you lose about 50% of the weight you would like to lose. I never realized until recently (when I started visiting this site) that this is completely wrong.

Actually, I have been working out for about 2 months and lost 21 lbs. I have never included any weights but I think I will start doing so just the way you do it, three times a week. I can see what you mean by flabby because I started to feel that my triceps have become a bit falbby.
I started doing Calorie Counter a week ago when I hit 260.  While I am tall, I need to lose 100 lbs.   It will take a while but I will get there.  I stared out slow with C's but have gotten an average score of  "A" for the week and exercise a little more each day.  I am having a hard time with carbs and sodium.
Wow this over 200 thing is growing a lot, not that any of us want to be here. As I have posted before I will always be here, I will never get under 200 unless I am pretty much on my death bed which I hope will not be for a very long time. I am just not built to be under 220 I don't think, 230 will probably be my ideal weight.

I was a little worried Husam when you started out "Well Stinky1", but then it ended on a good note, :) no worries...if you want to loose weight by lifting weights you can to that as well, you just need to do lighter weights lots of reps and build up your cardio just like you would if you were on a run, elliptical or bike etc. Basically weight loss is simple burn off more calories than you take in.

It does take practice and also discipline to get the formula down and be able to eat right.

Chat-One thing to remember carbs are not always bad just make sure you eat the right ones. Whole grains, darker bread and brown rice, also I found these tortilla's that are 50 calories each with 8 grams of fibre. So I eat those instead of bread they are filling and you can do just about anything with them as well.

Sodium is very hard to stay away from, soups have a ton, frozen foods have a ton. Drink lots of water that will help flush some of the sodium out as well.

I don't want to sound like I know it all because I don't but I have been doing this CC for over a year and have lost almost 75 lbs and used to be really into weight lifting so kind of know how things work. I got hurt lifting and let myself go and just needed to get back into shape, I just wasn't feeling as well as I should and needed to make some changes, but I feel so much better now...

Good luck to all of you and keep up the good work feel free to post any and all questions you will get lots of help here and all over CC.

I have added a couple of pictures of me currently at 238 with about 8 more to hit goal, but not giving up try to get to 225 or so.

Any replies to my "fasting" note?
i am 230 and i want to get to 180 at some point i dont know how long it will take but one day i will get there :)

I myself have never fasted, but I don't think one day will hurt or help your weight loss. It takes more than one day for your body to think it is starving to start holding back extra fat for food storage. I would think that if you still drank your water in take for the day you should be fine. If you are just cutting out eating only maybe get a like a V8 or something like that healthy to have some calorie in that way you are not "starving" but I don't do religion either so I am not one to ask that is for sure on that subject.
I have fasted for prayer before, and for weight loss.  One day doesn't make any difference.  In fact, I usually lose a little that day and feel good about going forward.  The under 1200 per day is an average, so if you don't limit yourself to under 1200 every day it won't mess you up.

I've been stuck on the border of this group hovering between 198 and 203 for weeks.  Its not that I've plateaued, its that I can't get my eating under control.  I do good for a week or two then go crazy - like on Easter candy, parties where there's lots of munchies, etc...  anyone have helpful hints on re-finding your motivation?  I've lost 50 lbs and have 50 more to go.  I was hoping to reach goal in June but now CC has moved my target date to Oct.
Thanks Stinky and Bonkerr for your thoughts.  I do plan to have veggie juices with me today so I will have some calorie intake.

Bonkerr:  I've done the crazy thing before too since I travel in my job and am gone as long as a week where 3 big meals are put in front of me every day and all the food is rich. Have to partake due to mingling responsibilities.  Even though I know I shouldn't eat all of the stuff in front of me, I do and usually come home gaining 5-7 pounds that week. But the next week, I do extra exercising (aerobics) at least every other day and make sure I measure out my foods and keep an eye on the calorie intake.  Each time, I have lost the 5-7 pounds and then the next week I am back at losing a pound a week, which is what I want to do.  I don't want to stress my body by starving it either.  Or that will make me go crazy.  I also try to come to this site every day to get the inspiration I need to stick with it.
Hey everyone!

I just signed up to this site yesterday and am already getting motivated to stick with it.  I am at 205 pounds and I cant stand it.  I really need motivating so if anyone has any tricks or ideas for me please pass them on.  My ideal weight is 150 and I really want to lose it as quickly but as healthy as possible.  I am a competitive horse back rider and need to be in better shape.  Unfortunately with all the competitions I dont get the option to eat very healthy- its usually fast food between classes.  If anyone has advice please let me know or even a bit of motivation.  I'm only 21 and am going to start planning my wedding as soon as I graduate from University.  I dream of the day that I can be 150 pounds and can buy a gown that isnt a size 18!

I wish you all the best and look forward to hearing and meeting you.  Good luck all!
welcome h2mur your gonna love this site the support here has been wonderful and I have only been here almost 30 days and have lost 9.5 pounds.  I had a very rough week last week but things started changing for me again about wednesday or so. I have been trying to eat within my calories but after eating three meals I some times see that I am in deficit from what I should eat. I eat lots of fruits and veggies this week and am not hungry for most of the day. late night like around 9:00 seems to be a bad time. I get up at 4:30 in the am to work out and leave by 6:45 to take the kids to school there is no way to go to bed later. I am finding I am about three hundred cals deficit. when My set intake is 1250. my nutritionist said I shouldn't go below 1500 until I drop a considerable amount. Any suggestions?
thanks for welcome, I look forward to seeing how this turns out.  I find that interesting about the calories.  It says I should be only eating like 1350, then the "eat meter" says 1650, and yet when I put in my activity level it says that I am easily burning 2400.  Which one am I supposed to follow?  I was aiming for the 1650 because I find that theres no way I'de be able to survive on 1350.  Even now I feel like I am not eating enough.  I have been starving all day, although I am eating, and I dont have any energy.  I definitely feel like Im not eating enough now.  I know this will be a change since I am trying to lose weight, but I dont hink I can survive without energy and more food.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Which calorie intake am I supposed to be following to still feel like myself and not the I'm starving or missing something?

According to most experts don't go less than 1200 a day for women and 1500 for men. If you find you are still hungry at 1300 eat more, but make it something filling. Anything with fiber in it will be filling. I found these Fiber One bars (140 Calories) that have 9 grams of fiber in each one. They rate a B+ on the cc scale. They are also like eating a candy bar, so that takes care of two things, cravings and filling. 3500 calories is a pound of fat, so you need to make sure you are burning more out than you are taking in. So it all averages out, even if you have a bad couple of days as long as you burn more than you take in it is all good. I burn about 3400 daily with out doing anything that is what my body uses to keep me moving. Heart beating breathing, blinking all those body functions take up calories hence the reason you need to have at least 1200 daily to survive.

Late night cravings are hard to deal with. I had that issue to and after reading eating after 8PM is a no-no, pretty much your body is in shut down mode and really doesn't do much after that time. So most of what you eat after that time turns to fat...Ugh I know, but I can believe that. I try not to eat anything past 7:30 if I do it is popcorn the 100 calorie packs. Filling yet not to heavy your body will process that...only making yourself used to not eating at night is hard, but it can be done.

Good Luck to all....
ty for the suggestion and I didn't realize that they had 100 cal pac in popcorn, I'll  have to go looking for them. I found 100 cal pac hostess cupcakes today I was siked and it will allow me to have amy cake and enjoy it to :p I just walked in the door from errands and I have to cook for one of the five kids and my boyfriend and his brother so I found If I brush my teeth before I cook it will usually stop me from picking so I am gonna brush cook designate a person for kitchen duty and go to bed to keep my temptation from getting the better part of me. =p
