I want to start a club for those of us who have a lot of pounds to lose. Anyone interested?
Hi Rose! I drive A LOT for my job. (Have logged about 100,000 in the last 3 years.) Lunches on the road or between meetings when I was away from the office was really a downfall for me. Also, when I was in the office, I wanted to spend time with my counterpart, and we would "go to lunch" to have time away from the office to catch up on things happening in the school districts we serve. So, I did a few things to help.
1) I took frozen entrees and stocked in our freezer. I also took fruit cups, granola bars, and sugar free pudding cups that don't need refridgerated and keep them in a filing cabinet. (I also took my own 12 pack of diet pop, so I don't have an excuse to go to vendo-land mid day for a soda.)
2) For my occasional lunch out, I got a Subway gift card, and a gift card for a local grocery store that has a great salad and fresh fruit buffet. Then, I don't carry cash, just the gift cards. My colleague and I eat there, and just occasionally somewhere else.
3) I started packing a lunch for on the road days. I have to plan better. My weekly grocery list started including things that were EASY to grab and pack. This included apples, bananas, oranges etc. I have a food routine for on the road days. I have coffee with creamer and an easy dairy serving such as low fat mozz cheese stick in the early morning. Then, I have a fruit serving mid morning. If I don't have midmorning time, I save the fruit for lunch. Then, for lunch I usually make a quick sandwich (peanut butter on whole wheat), a piece of fruit, and maybe some veggie snacks. This usually gets me through until I'm home, and I have saved most of my calories for my dinner with my family. I feel like I'm snacking a little here and there throughout the day, but it's planned and routine.
Hope this helps! Kelly

Thanks Kelly, good ideas. I'm buying my lunch box today, and stocking up on some things to pack. Taking water to put in refrigator at work. I want to pack things I don't have to heat up in the lunch room . I don't get to pick my lunch time and who I get to eat with so it can get stressful in there with complaining. I enjoy the quite time in the libary. I have to work on the planning part but don't think It'll be too much of a problem. I've had myself on the back burner for so long I'm just getting into a routine of doing things I need to do. Thanks so much to the support. Vicky
Hey Rose! I have to tell ya, I'm terrible about lunchboxes, containers etc. I pack in a brown paper sack and zip-loc style baggies. Then, I can reuse, or trash if needed. So, if the lunchbox gets to be one more thing to have to maintain, you may want to consider brown bagging it. :) Kelly
hey Paul76...
It looks like we're in just about the same boat. I'm 6'0 and 315 lbs and have set a similar goal weight. I'll warn you in advance I am a Sooners fan but if you won't hold that against me and want a weight loss buddy let me know and we can exhange email addresses.

well I am totally in this group! I haven't checked the scale yet, but I'm guessing about 290, 5'5", goal weight is 210 (at which point I will no longer be morbidly obese!!) I'm 46 and tired of feeling 76!
I had gastric bypass in May 2001. I was at 486--my all time high. Got down to about 235, and over the last 5 years I've inched up. This is my highest post-loss weight, and I'm NOT happy about it!!! I've done WW and South Beach, but I realize that a "diet" isn't the answer. I just need to eat sensibly! Heaven knows I know HOW, I just have to DO it!
I'm so glad I found this site--just signed on last night. We can all travel this road together.

Hi Wendy! I really like that you set a starting goal for yourself. I have divided my year into 10 "mini" goals.
This is something you touched on that I've been thinking about a lot lately... If we consume a mere 50 extra calories a day that we don't use, we gain about 5 pounds in a year. 100 extra calories would be 10 pounds etc. I have also been inching my "weigh" up for the last several years. So, if I start using more calories than I consume, even if it's only a little less, I'm at least heading in the right direction. That is giving me the "reward" I need to keep at it. The scale goes up, goes down, stays the same... and it all depends on water, how much I ate for supper last night, etc. But, if I know I was under on calories on a certain day, I can deal with that darn scale. I have also started keeping a paper log with my daily ins and outs, just so I can look back on it as a motivator that I'm doing the right thing. So far, for me, this has been the easiest healthiest change I have made in a VERY long time.

Hi
I have just found this site and I hope that this is finally a tool I can really use. I am 228 right now, (age 45) and the largest I've ever been in my life. The calculator says I need to lose 96 lbs.
I never dealt with a serious weight problem until my twin girls were born 11 years ago. Since then it seems my metabolism has just stopped. But I am bound and determined to get some of this weight off. My current goals:
1. Remember to keep up with the food log. I know if I write down what I eat, I will consume less calories. It's worked in the past, but I get lazy.
2. Walk the dog. For the last several years I've had old basset hounds who didn't walk very fast, but now I have a puppy and he keeps me going.
Once I get these habits established, then I'll work on actual weight loss goals.

Hi crazyhsmom...
That sounds like a great plan. I've only been on here for a few days but just the action of tracking everything I eat has been enlightening.
I'll share one little insight I've had that might be useful. I've started planning out my dinners a week or two in advance and every day the first thing I do is log what I'm going to eat for dinner. Going into my day I know that I have a certain amount of calories I can eat (see calorie-deficit posts) so I treat the log like a bank account...I know that taking dinner into account how much I have left throughout the day. For instance yesterday I got to my afternoon snack and could see that I had about 200 calories to work with and found something that fit right in that range.

I am at 205 right now. That was a surprise to me because about 1 week ago I was at 195. I guess i ate a little too much over the break. Hopefully I will move back down to the 190's in a week or two.
I currently weigh 316. I've been living in a rehab/nursing home which has a wellness program for weight loss so right now I don't have the option of purchasing and preparing my own meals. Most of my lunches and dinners are chicken or fish and a salad. When I started here in March of 2005, I weighed 437, so the program works but sometimes I just get tired of chicken and fish!
These past 2 months have been especially bad for me - lots of cheating unfortunately - and my weight has been creeping back up as a result. I am glad to have found this website because it's motivating me to get back on track. I've been reading some of the posts in the various forums and I think you are all a great bunch of supportive people.

-sigh-
me to. I'm 30 years old and now weigh 263. I've been up to 272 in my life & vowed to never, ever again see that number on the scale. A couple of years ago I joined WW & got down to 225 - I was even running & feeling really great. Then I got lazy & I fell on my knee & I just spiralled downward...eventually I gained all my weight back & now I can't even imagine myself running. Now *both* my knees hurt, my feet ache, my back hurts & I just feel totally frumpy & yucky.
My father is getting gastric bypass surgery in about a month, I never, ever want a doctor to tell me that that's my best option so I'm going to get my weight off now.
This site says my ideal weight is 145 - my first goal is 225 - which I will hopefully reach by May or June.
Anyhow, I think this site is great & I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone & giving/gaining support.

Good morning all, I feel great! I have been working out for two weeks now and my food log grade is between A and A- most days. I want to say, no matter what happens to my weight and how long it takes, I feel wonderful. I have energy, am clear headed, and feel alive. I have been focused on eathing mostly from the world's healthiest food list. http://www.whfoods.com/foodstoc.php I want to remember how good I feel now, so when the slippery allure of quick, easy eating, sweets and junk are presented to me, I will consider them energy vampires. I must remember to bring food to eat at work which is nutritionally dense, and high quality. Thanks for the suggestions Kelly, they will help with both work and road times. Have a great day everyone.
good morning everyone:) this is my 4th day with cc and i have to admit it's taking some getting used to. i didn't fall off the wagon yet and i'm starting to feel good about myself. i had one question though... does anyone know how often you should weigh yourself? i was told maybe twice a week then i heard every other day and someone also told me daily. i don't know. i feel like if i do it daily it'll make me crazy.. any suggestions? i'd greatly appreciate it :)
I don't remember the last time I posted on CC, but I know I was under 200. I weighed in this morning at 203.5. Yesterday afternoon i was 207.5.
I'm hoping to stay within my calorie range today of 1200-1400.
I'm 66 and used to walk a lot, but quit the last few years. My medicare supplement plan is linked up with a fitness program called Silver Sneakers which negotiates with certain fitness centers for free membership for its seniors. Ours is supposed to be going into St. John's Fitness Center in February. I can't wait.

Hi All ! I'm a newbie to c-c, but I'm really looking forward to using the site. I too am at 200+, as of today I'm down to 241 from 245, with my first goal being losing down to 200 by my 30th b-day in March. It seems like from my teenage years on, I've been on the heavier side, and after the birth of my daughter 3 & 1/2 years ago, the weight just kept piling on. You would think with 2 kids I would be too active to gain much weight, but in March of 06 I had a back surgery, and it seemed like after that the weight just piled on. I gained 40 lbs in 2006. So I am determined to lose that 40+another 60 in 2007. To be a healthier me for my kids , husband, and most importantly for myself!
I just try to remind myself that nothing tastes as good as being thin will feel !

Wow! I found a site that is making me feel a whole lot better already just from reading everyone's postings. Even though I know there are other heavy people out there just like me, I still felt like I was the only one. I've been reading the postings and everyone's thoughts are giving me encouragement to lose the 120 pounds I need to get rid of. I'm weighing in at 252 (a steady number for the past few years) and want to get rid of it so I can feel good about myself again and hold my head up, wear some clothes that make me look good, dance again, start dating again. Ready, set, go.
hello everyone! i'm about 215 (age 28) and I want to lose as much weight as possible before March, when my husband and I will start trying to have our second baby. At 5'10", I can hide my weight well, as it's distributed in most of the right places. I had my first child last march and haven't been able to get my motivation in place until i realized how close her first birthday is. I am especially frightened that my weight will have a serious negative impact on my ability to get pregnant again and then on the unborn child. I was close to having gestational diabetes with my first pregnancy and both my parents have Type II diabetes, so i'm already at high risk. I'm looking forward to talking with you all over the next few months...good luck to you all in your weight loss, as well!
Hello everyone, my name is Star and I'm new to this site. I didn't start a diet and exercise with the new year, I've actually been doing it since right before Thanksgiving. But just in the past few weeks I've been more serious about it. I currently am in the program with Kaiser for gastric bypass. My current weight as of 12/19/06 was 310lbs. I am 5'8 and 27 years old. My goal weight is 225lbs, for now. I don't want to turn to weight loss surgery because it is so drastic and I want to try and achieve successful weight loss on my own. The only real reason why I would do the surgery is because I have bad knees (had a total of 3 surgeries on both knees) and the reduction in weight would help tremendously. I'm reading all the posts and it's just crazy to me how everyone seems to be writing my thoughts on here. People don't realize what a struggle being overweight is. I hate to hear someone say "well just stop eating" it's not that easy, hell if it was I'm sure that all of us wouldn't be on here. Well if any of you are in the Sacramento, CA area and need a person to help motivate you, you can contact me at sojonti@aol.com. Otherwise I'll help motivate all of you by posting on here. Good luck to everyone, including myself. It's going to be hard but whatever you do don't give up. If you fall off, you get right back on, you don't need the year to go around again to start all over. You can start back anytime.
