Stinky does that also include if I am severly under calories for that day letting them go for that night orshould I try to make up the deficit?
I jst started on this site and really like.  I began my diet @275 and after three weeks I'm already @ 260.  I've been taking in between 2000 to 2700 calories and drinking 12 cups of water a day and doing moderate excersise.  Night time is my hardest hurdle to overcome.  Any ideas on crbing my night time hunger.?
Ma-

It is best to try to get as many calories in early as you can eat heavier at breakfast and lunch a lighter dinner and a snack if you can work that in. The more you take in early the more time your body has time to burn off what you ate. That also goes with working out eat before working out that way you burn off what you ate. Both my trainer and nutritionist suggested that and it works great. You have the energy to have a better work out which then helps you burn off what you already ate. I used to "save" my calories because I was afraid I would run out. Now I eat most of them before 5PM and have a light dinner and a snack and have dropped faster that way than I did before. Try going on a walk later a night the exercise will help your body not think about needing food. When you sit that is when you mind I think kicks in to tell trigger hunger. You may not really need it, but you think you do. Drink lots of water I see that Wjack has been doing so, good job. I wish this site had a check box that you can check every time you have 8 oz of water, you need 64 oz a day. Save room for some kind of snack if you need it I know I do, but don't eat passed 8PM if you can at all help it.

Good Luck All!!
Hi ev1,

im a new member but most definately not a new dieter.

I joined the site a week ago at 300lbs and now im at 295lbs although i lost 10 lbs in the 3 weeks prior to joining the site.

Still have a longgggg way to go and i think sometimes, that is the biggest hurdle of all. its not the restrictiveness of how much i can eat or what i can eat in order to lose weight, but the simple fact that i know it is going to take me quite some time to get to where i want to be.

This is where we need mega support from one another. we need to keep each others chins up, keep those smiles smiling and the scales slowly tipping in the right direction.

At the moment i am doing well and the weight is coming off at a nice rate (although some may say its a little too quick), and i personally would like to offer my hand of friendship and support to all.

so i expect you will see me around on this site for a longgg longggg time to come. lol
I had that issue to and after reading eating after 8PM is a no-no, pretty much your body is in shut down mode and really doesn't do much after that time. So most of what you eat after that time turns to fat...

I often have a snack after 8 PM (sometimes after 10 PM) and I have lost 33 lbs.  There was a thread about this a few months back and others said they also ate late at night and were successful with losing weight.  It's not so much the time (not like your body has an alarm saying "It's 7 PM, time to roll up the sidewalks guys!"), your body is awake and moving around, it's going to use up calories for the energy it needs to keep you going.  Even sleeping burns calories, even though it's relatively small (about 64 cals/hour for a 150 lb person) but it adds up.  For that same person, an 8 hour sleep night would be about 514 calories burned.

While I wouldn't advocate having a 3-course meal right before heading to bed, having a piece of fruit, or a small bowl of (unbuttered) popcorn isn't going to do you in!
Willow has a good point that your body still burns calories if it awake or sleeping that is true, but still I wouldn't go over board eating late like she said. Stick with something lite, popcorn air popped, fruit veggies, not heavy food. But I was just going on what my nutritionist told me about eating after 8:00PM. I guess as long as you don't go too much over your calories or if you have saved room for a snack before bed if it is working for you then go for it. I myself try not to eat after 8 and it is working for me.

Smurf,

I feel the same way.  I have a long way to go.  100 more lbs give or take.  I am trying to set my goals smaller.  I want to be my "goal" weight (175lbs) for Nov. 2008 for my friends wedding.  Right now I focus on smaller goals.  I am going on vacation in 2 weeks and set myself the goal of 275.  I am currently at 277.  My next goal is in September when a group of us is going away to a cottage for a few days.  I keep the big picture in the back of my mind and work for my immediate goals.  This isn't a quick fix and so long as what I am doing is realistic for me than I feel happy.  Lastly (and this is sooo cliche) take it one day at a time.  I went to a restaurant on Monday and ate too much.  The next day I felt like crap but I knew I couldn't undo the past.  All we can do, any of us is plan ahead and take each day as it comes.  I can't take back the food I ate monday but I can ensure I eat well today.  275 here I come!!
I think we all owe Stinky1 a big thank you.  You seem to be holding us together and have some sound advice!   I successfully made it through this last weekend without going bonkers eating for the first time in a long time.  This site and just some of Stinky1's thoughts shared here helped me with motivation and additude adjustment.  I really do need to get into this site more often.  I'm "officially" out of this club, I broke the 200 barrier and stayed there for more than a week.  I started here last July at 248 and this morning I weighed in at 197!  I still like this group the best.  We all seem to be in a similar place.
avonna, i wish you the very best of luck and I know your right, to aim for mini goals with the biggest goal at the end.

Maybe with the help and support of others like us, the biggest goal wont seem so far away and our mini goals can be congratulated as they deserve to be.
For some reason, I can not get under 200! I have been bouncing between 201 and 204 for about 2 months now, and just cant seem to get it off. I dont know what the problem is. Ive lost 19 lbs so far but I just can not get under 200. I still have 56 before goal, but at this rate, I dont know if its going to happen.
Thanks for the pat on the back, but you did it not me. I just give tips and such, you have to do the work!!! Congrats BONKERR!!! I don't want you back here unless it is just to visit...now that you are below 200!! Just kidding you can stay all you want : ) feel free to ask questions we are here to answer them as best we can.

Angel-How many calories are you taking in daily? You could be at that wonderful plateau we all hit every once in a while. Some times to jump start it again it helps to do one or all of these things:

Eat a little more calories not a bunch more, but 100-300 more daily for a few days your body will think it is getting more then go back to normal your body will be tricked into loosing again.

Try different workouts, a little more intense then slow down, stop rest do it again. Do different exercises, sometimes doing something different will boost your body into action again.

Eat more often just little snacks versus 3 meals a day. I do that, I eat like almost all day...just snacking...and then small meals at normal eating time breakfast lunch are larger (normally) than dinner. Sometimes it doesn't work out that way...

Try these out and even combine them and see if that doesn't work.

Good Luck to all...
I wrote this in my journal but thought maybe someone out there would know what I am coming up against this weekend.

My biggest fear is this upcoming weekend.  I am going to begin my competition season with my beautiful arabian horses but that means not eating properly and definitely on weird and unconsistant times.  I'm not sure how I am going to last- everyone usually eats fast food all weekend and I know I wont have a lot of choice.  I dont get the time to sit and eat salad and being in a barn all day, its very hard to be able to eat fruit.  I've tried to get some snacks like fruit cups, and special K cerial bars.  I will also pick up the 100 calorie snacks because then I can ensure to get the sugar I need and energy I need in order to compete all day.  My days will last from 6am till 1am.  I am not sure of what I can do.  At least I will be burning massive amounts of calores from riding and running around all day!

If anyone has any suggestions I am soo open to hear them!
H2-

What I suggest is look at the items on the menu's for those places and see what they have. A lot of them have grilled chicken you can do that with a salad...I know they don't have the best salad dressing, maybe you can bring your own in a cooler. You don't have to eat the bun the chicken comes on maybe put it on your salad. I know this is going to be tough, maybe try to get a head start and fill out a meal plan from the website from those fast food places and try to fit in your calories that way. You may not rank the over all A-B you are trying to get daily, but you might be able to stay with in your calorie range. I am going to have that issue in a month I am going to Disney World FL and have been trying to look up places to eat or even at the park to see what they have healthy, not east, but will do my best...Good Luck!! In both eating and your competition!!!

Hi everybody.  I am new to this site and have been reading some of the last couple os pages of posts.  You all sound like you are trying and you are all a great inspiration.  I am at 240 and will be trying to get down to 175 in the next year.  I look forward to talking with all of you.  I am going to need all the inspiration I can get!!
Hi All!

mjgard64 we are in the same boat, sturdy boat!  Started at my ultimate 250 April 18 and am at 237 this morning.   I would gain so much satisfaction at 175 and you know what?... that really isn't too far in the future.  Hang in there all and me too!

Weekends are killers.  Such little tiny piece of food with so many calories.  Counting the calories has been a big eye opener for me (although they seem to close tight on weekends!)

I look forward to seeing what comes to pass for us

Hi All!

I'm new to this...so here goes.  I weigh 314 now and just started dieting with my husband.  We even both joined a gym, which we are starting tomorrow after work.

This isn't my top weight.  I did weight 346 then lost about 60 pounds then unfortunately put most of that back on.  I can't take it anymore and neither can my health.  So I'm back on track and ready to get healthy (hopefully).  I just hope my terrible will power doesn't get me into too much trouble.
hi ixfrenchxi,

your ' terrible will power' has gotten you here so far so i guess its not as ' terrible' as u think. Each step is a big one and you just took the first

Its good that you and your husband are doing this together. Support plays a huge factor with motivation.

my husband isnt dieting with me but he has finally stopped asking me if i fancy a mcdonalds. lol. ' NO' is such a great word.

Anyway, all thats left to say is Welcome and the very best of luck to you and your husband. Look forward to seeing you around the forum. :o)
Stinky-Im at about 1300 calories a day after my deficit. I eat fruits and veggies practically all day long aside from my meals. Its weird... I hit a plateau, then I broke it with one weigh in and now Im back....
When you say your are back does that mean you are back to loosing or back again in a plateau? Normally when people talk about a plateau they might be there for a couple of weeks not just one. As you get closer to your goal you will find you will loose slower. I used to loose 3-5 lbs a week. Then it fell off to about 2 now it is about a pound a week, sometimes it takes two weeks for me to see a 2 lb loss. So don't get discouraged just as long as the scale isn't going the other direction you should be good.   : )
Any recommendations on cleansing the body....fasting, fruit drinks, herbal teas?  I know the body carries around a lot of food in various states of digestion.  I do not like the feeling I get when I have overeaten terribly and do not practice overeating given I have no major crisis ocurring.

That being said, I do like to experience a body not bogged down.  Again, any recommendations on fasting, how often if ever, benefits, downfalls, suggested products/foods?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks, lmotelet
