I havent been doing any weight training as of yet. For right now, I am sticking to mainly cardio. I dont put any condiments on my food generally because I dont like most of them. My water intake is about 10 glasses a day. That is all I drink. I dont know....
Id love to join, ive always hovered around 190 - 200 but quit smoking in feb, and ballooned to 230!! down to 210 at the moment but the momentum has me going so i want to get down to 139! got a long way to go, but i think i might be on the right track this time.

I go to the gym 5 times a week at lunch and do cardio 3 times and wieghts 2 times a week, also on a really healthy eating plan at the moment.
Angel-

Sounds like you are doing all the right things. How may mg of sodium are you taking in? Could be holding water? You can send me PM if you want. I would stick with what you are doing cardio, cardio, cardio. Make sure you are at your calorie range, I wouldn't go too much under or over if you can help it. Sometimes not eating enough your body will hoard it so you are not starving well at least your body thinks you are.

Wow! Welcome to all our new members! I am glad to see that people are taking control of their lives and want to lose the weight like so many more of us.

The thing that I have found is that while it's nice to know what you want in the long run (such as I want to get down to 170, about 65 pounds from my original weight) sometimes it helps to have a short term goal. What I did was take 10% of my weight and made that my goal for the time being. So, when I started at 236 on April 20, my goal was to lose 23 pounds, so to get to 213. So far, I have lost 19 pounds, so by next week, I should have lost my 10% goal. Once I am at 213, I will be looking to lose another 10%, which will bring me down to 192, then 19 pounds, bringing me to 173. Then I will only have a couple more pounds left to go. I hope that makes sense!

I also agree to stay at the appropriate calorie level. You don't want your body to be hungry, I had a couple of days that it was hot here in SC---and when it's hot I don't eat as much. I had an average of 1200 cals, and I had horrific headaches and was soooo tired. Be really careful. You don't want to lose weight too fast. Drinking water is great, especially about a half an hour before eating. Your body feels full so you don't eat nearly as much.

Good luck! I'm thinking about you guys!!

Beckie :)
Thank you all for the good lucks and advice.  It's always appreciated :)

Since it's finally spring (oh my gosh yay), I reverted back to my high school days and started walking where I needed to go.  I was slightly overweight at that time, but I was more healthy at that point (in addition to the nightly walks with my husband and the half hour of cardio in the mornings).  I really like the small goal thing and I'm thinking of making one because the 200 lbs by Thanksgiving seems so far away.

Congrats britishvixen21.  Quitting smoking is really difficult and you should be so proud of yourself.

Hello Everyone,

I am currently at the weight of 270 pounds at a height of 5'9. I have lost 20 pounds in the last month and a half. My goal is to lose 120 pounds before my wedding (which is May 2008).  I am an ex-athlete and very determined! I work out twice a day with a combination of swimming, water aerobics and spinning classes! I have always been a good eater but with the recent loss of my job,,I have gained 100 pounds by eating junk food and lounging around..... Now, I am really focused about what I need to do!!!! So, for all of you out there keep up the good work!!!
I am at 270 pounds as well.  This really snuck up on me.  Last I knew I was still under 250, then I went for a doctor visit and lo and behold...272 pounds on their scale.  I was in shock.  I guess I have been avoiding the scale lately and eating a lot out of stress and anxiety.  Well I still have a lot of stressfull things in my life, but I also have just finished getting my degree so I am planning to replace all the hard work I was putting towards that with hard work towards losing weight and getting fit.
What's a spinning class for working out?  It doesn't sound like it is likely anything to do with creating yarn/
Spinning is a stationary bike, several people on these bikes with a trainer. Similar to an aerobics class. They go though different speeds and such just like if you were riding your own, bike, but because it is in a controlled environment they tend to push you really hard and work up a good sweat and work out. Less impact on the knees and such. I also heard it is fun...I myself have not done it. I have a bike path behind my house with many miles I can ride so I don't need to take the classes. They call it spinning because of the tires spinning all the time and you spin you legs to get the tires to spin.

Great to see more people join. Well peeps I will be going to FL. for the week to visit Mickey. I will not be on or updating anything until I get back. I hope to add some good pictures of me in shape when we get back.

Take care, don't eat too much over this holiday all be safe and have fun.

Stinky!!!
Well this is the club for me.  I am 50 and weigh 224.  I have been logging religiously since April 19th and journal occasionally.  I had had a weight problem all my life.  As a kid I always heard "such a pretty face."  Which realy meant, "What a fat kid".  I decided that I needed to take control and just not spend the next 50 years of my life with food issues.  I said in another post that when stressed or other excuses I turned to food.  And guess what the stressful thing passed and would have passed if I binged or not.  I said many times, after this DQ Sundae or on Monday or tomorrow... and decided now is the time.  Just do it.  The days are crusing by, so if I make it thur today (this morning, the next hour sometimes) I will be fine.  I eat healthy and now when I want to focus on eating somthing I try to pick up a book, walk the dog, floss, just keep busy and then it's the next day and I did okay.  I still have the skinny cow ice cream sandwich or 1 block of chocolate.  But I am getting picky, if I want something it better be worth the calories.  Well I babbled long enough.  I really need everyone's support.  I do go, and then freak out.  Sometimes weight loss scares me.  I want to break 220 without the freakout.  Any one have similar problems?
sometimes FOOD scares me, susan.  it feels like its this big monster that has total control over me and my weight.  i am a real foodie and a real addict. i am learning to just pull in the reins and make sure my choices are healthy ones, and with portions controlled.

but yes this is very scary for me.  maybe cause i'm afraid i'm going to fail again?  that i dont have the willpower?  i dont know why.

gl on breaking the 220 mark my friend. thats a great goal and i am confident that you will find the courage to do it.

hugs, Kim

WE CAN DO THIS!

I know it sounds like a broken record to some of us.  But determination is the key to our success!  No matter howgreat or small our success, that is one more line we have crossed and conquered.

I AM GOING TO MAKE IT!!

So far I am staying around 1500 calories each day and this seems to be working for me.  I am losing....SLOWLY.  (Such an awful word somedays.) And I am not hungry.  I do workout at least 5 times a week, more if I can.  Full time job, full time family, volunteer hours for BSM, and a rock band to boot.  Maybe my reward for keeping to my goals will be a vacation ;) with some me time!
Hey---just checking in on everyone! I had a rough weekend, and now am back to my pre-weekend weight :)

Beckie :)
Stinky,

I think Im doing better. I have lost all of the 7 lbs that I gained. Maybe it was just water weight or something.... Weight loss has definitely been a good motivator for teaching myself self control. I have my bad days, but at this point I have more good than I do bad.
Hello Everyone I hope you are all Doing great!

Cause I'm Feeling Wonderful!

went on my family trip hung out with family and friends everyone @@ gawking at how much weight I lost my stepdaughter was a charm she just shouted out "OMG! Look at you.  You lost so much weight I am totally impressed! You look great look at your legs they are skinny"  and kept on and on she made me smile a lot during the whole trip.  I haven't seen anyone since March so Everyone really made me feel good with all the compliments.

It was what I needed just about now.  I they made me see that I am headed in the right direction.

I knew I could do this ...Just keep my goal in front of me.

I know it's hard very hard some times especially with so much temptation around us <<<evil foods>>> when you smell bacon cooking and eggs frying mmmm but just say to your self no, no, no I can make better choices.  I made sure I kept busy by being the cook and making some great foods which I could enjoy.  I cooked all day long BF, Lunch and Dinner.  I was actually to tired to eat. (:

I continued my 120 min. walks daily and lost 3lbs during my trip.

I've been walking and this week is Cardio at the Gym.  I'm motivated BIG TIME now!  Stinky, I finally broke that 206 weight at which I was stuck at for a while if you remember I kept going 204 then back to 206/205 and you were right it's muscle that I'm building up.  Now,  I'm stuck at 203/204 when will I get to 200????  Do I stop my workouts for a couple of days or what?
loven- I have been having the same problem. I have been trying to get below 200 for a while now. I keep bouncing up and down. Im not sure what its going to take. Im just going to keep trying. I think if you continue with the cardio you will lose the weight. Cardio is the best for weight loss from what I have heard.
<<<crying like a baby>>>I've been trying so hard to get below 200lbs I guess I'll just take another walk this evening):  And, I'm going to buy a new scale.

I went to the doctor today and got wieghed and I am so upset with myself.  I weigh 253 and I am 5'7.  I need all your help and motivation so let's hang in there together.  I will do it this time.
Im sooo excited.  I started my lifestyle change 2 weeks ago.  Weighing in at 213.  I am 5'10.  Since then I have incorporated portion control and walking daily.  Twice a wk I walk up steep hills for 3 miles....whew what a work out!  OMG!!  But I will not stop.  2wice a wk I walk around this trail near my house.  about 4 miles.  1 day I walk about 1 mile but I incorporate Jumping rope.  2wice a wk I do a walking uphill program on my treadmill (THATS THE HARDEST YET)  I push myself to complete a  very hard program, the others I walk at a comfortable pace for me.  None the less I am now 207 and this is my 3rd wk working.  SO in 2 wks I've lost 6 lbs.  YAY me.  I have so much more confidence that I can do this.  I am so excited.  I just joined this site so let's see if it will help me to push even harder, and gain much more success!  YAY ME!
Yay, Lets all do Porsha's routine I walk everyday I think I do need to step it up and push much harder.  I'm getting a jump rope
