HI! My name is Laura and i am 5-5 and 235 lbs as of today. I did weigh 240 almot 2 weeks ago. I am counting calories cuz I do not know what ele to do. When i gave birth, I only weighed 201 lbs! My son is 5(his bday is halloween). I cant believe i have put on so much lately. I have high blood pressure so I am on Diovan. I am also on protonix( for heartburn). I took myself off depo provera lat Sept and currently have the IUD, Mirena. Birth control was part of it but that is why I switched to IUD. I am taking it slow, and watching what I eat. I guess I am supposed to stay under 1700 calories and I walked 20 minutes today. I hate exercise now but I have to do it to lose weight the old fashioned Way!
if you have any suggestions, please tell me....

wow...welcome to all the newbies!!!! sounds like we are all in the same boat..and some of us are about the same height...5ft 1 1/2 ....so unfair. My sister in law gained 25 pounds, but at 5ft 10 ...ya can't even tell!!!! me? I gain 5..and poof!! lol
Today was definitely Monday. It was an icky day at work b/c of work situations. BUT...i didn't turn to food!!!! I thought about it...but didn't!!
Tonight is my girls night for Bunko. I took control of situation and asked the hostess what she was serving for dinner. Baked chicken and salad. (will forego bread and dessert...but otherwise..it's good!!)
For once, I am prepared! I just wish I could think ahead in the morning, that is one place I am still having difficulty.

Just checking in again. Where is everyone? Had to look on page two to find you all. Today was a very busy day. Stuck to calories well. No exercise but I did scrub floors and vacummed for 3 houses...I'm a cleaning lady for Seniors. So that should count right. HOpe so cause I'm sore. Didn't drink as much water as I would've liked. Hard when I'm at work using other people washrooms. Hope everyone had a good day and have a great evening. :)
rockinmama..whew...that was a workout!!!!
today was good. worked out and stayed within calories. not enough water. feel kinda "sinusy...pollen stuff" , water didn't sound good. bad excuse, but will do better tomorrow. steady improvements...day by day!

I was bad....I had a couple beers tonight adn like 10 m&m's. but that was my dinner plus some vegetarian wild rice that was amazing and a tiny bit of bread. so I doubt I went over my calories but I still feel guilty. but I'm down 5.6 pounds this month! I'm hopign to get down to 220 by the 31st!
Hi everyone, another newbie here. This sounds like the perfect place for me. Right now, I'm 5'1" and about 215 lbs. (I don't own a scale.) I'd like to get under 200 lbs. by summer. I don't think my goal is unrealistic but, wow, it's not easy.
I've started many diets and failed because well, my discipline is just not there. This time I thought I'd try it a little differently, join a support group, start eating healthier and exercising. The one thing I've noticed is that it takes a time and energy to do it right.
Keep the words of encouragement coming. I like it reading them!

hyechong==welcome!!! wow...someone actually shorter than I am!! by 1/2 inch!!!!! lol
this is a great site! do you also enter your food in the food log??? that is HUGE for me! I also need to start journalling again, but I find myself in here more and this seems to be doing the perfect thing for me!

I'm just starting out. I joined CC last night and now working on entering some foods that I didn't find on the site. The toughest part is that I'm Korean and I eat a lot of Korean foods, which are not on many of the food lists. I am getting an idea of the calorie content just by checking the ingredients that go into a dish. It seems that not all Asian dishes are as healthy as people think they are.
I'm going to start using the food log, I think if I can see what I'm actually consuming in a day, it will be easier to see where I can make my changes. For the next week, I'm going to see just how many calories I consume in an average day before making my adjustments. You know the whole small steps approach.
Thanks for welcoming me! I will need all the motivation to keep it going!

I understand! I had homemade chicken salad for lunch today from a restaurant, and I don't know how to enter it! I'm going with one they have listed (as an F grade....) but that way I won't go over.
Good luck and let us know how it's working out.

itsmytime- yes it was a workout. Today I only had one to do but she has a huge house. Tomorrow I have to sweet lady's and they both have huge houses....oh my aching knees and back....well it's exercise and I think I'd rather do it that way. I find it hard to get motivated to exercise any other way, I don't know why.
ktcort13- Oh what I would give for a nice cold beer now..lol. But I am strictly off beer because I retain water so bad and beer make me swell like a balloon. :( And a big Yip Yip hooray for you.....5.6 lbs in a month....awesome...good for you!
Hyechong- Welcome! You'll make it under 200lbs by summer...it's not unrealistic. That's my goal to....actually I want to be 190 or 195 by end of June. I weigh 221 lbs now so I'm sure working at it. Is Korean food high in sodium? Start posting some nummy Korean recipes for us ok? I'd love to try some, especially if the sodium isn't too high. Thanks.

I really love the recipe analyzer. I'm an at home wife and a full-time online student. So, most of my cooking is at home. The recipe analyzer helps me figure out how many calories are in what.
I'm procrastinating, instead writing a paper, I've been uploading some of my recipes. Hehehe!
So far so good, the only thing I'm having a hard time working on is the activity log. It gives caloric breakdowns for activities but, then it also shows the average amount of calories a person like me burns in a day. So, do I count those activities (studying on the computer)? Or just the really obvious ones like working out??

Hummm not sure. I know I only count the real obvious stuff like working out. I never count the days where I'm typing and sitting most of the day but if I vacumm or wash floors or do anything strenuous I count those things. But that's just me...maybe someone else on here does it differently. Seems if I up my calories a little on my lazy days I gain but if I up them on a really hard working day scale either goes down a little or I stay the same. Oh good about the recipes. I hope you give us a link or something so we can find them too. ;)
rockinmama,
That makes sense to me to just log the obvious stuff. Now as for the recipes, I haven't uploaded an Korean stuff yet. However, I did log some other stuff. Here is a list:
Citrusy Tuna Salad
http://www.calorie-count.com/recipe/30075.htm l
Quinoa with Mango and Curry Yogurt
http://www.calorie-count.com/recipe/30082.htm l
Curry Couscous
http://www.calorie-count.com/recipe/30089.htm l
Vegetable Chicken Soup
http://www.calorie-count.com/recipe/30097.htm l
As for Korean food, I do have to admit some of it is high in sodium. It's the nature of the food because of soy sauce and their cooking methods. Luckily for me, I don't have to watch my sodium intake as closely as others.
I'm pretty much healthy except for the weight. My cholesteral, glucose, blood pressure all good usually on the lower side of the normal scale. I'm sure if I continue to stay this size, that won't be the case. That's why I want to do something about it now.
I'll work on getting some Korean recipes up with some low-sodium options!

thanks rockinmama! I usually don't drink beer b/c it just makes me feel so heavy but I was at a "study group" last night and figured I'd go ahead. 200 calories each though! Holy Crap! That's why I try to avoid it like the plague! haha...wine is much better anyways :)
how are you doing on your goals? you're so encouraging to everyone else and we don't hear as much about you!

hyechong- Thanks for the recipes. I will be trying some of them out for sure. I love quinoa and anything with curry so I'll have to try that one first. Figures Korean food is high in sodium. :( They will have to be for treat days I guess.
ktcort13-But there is nothing like a cold beer eh? Special treat...lol. My goals??? Well I weighed 238 when I started again and I've lost 19 lbs so far so now I'm 221 lbs. I have a small goal (only way I can do this because if I look at having to lose 94lbs I get real depressed) so my small goal is to lose 15 lbs. I have a deal going with my daughter who is also on calorie-count ....joellerousseau...That if I lose 15 lbs before her she buys me a piece of clothing I want and if she wins I bring her shopping. Longterm goal though is to be 135 some day.

that's an awesome motivator! good luck to youand your daughter!
for what it's worth....
I was 260+ about 15 years ago, got down to 185 in a couple of years back then. Since then, I have had highs of 240 in 2001 (back down to 185 in 2002) and 227 last August, when I joined cc and started to get serious about eating properly and exercising daily.
I am now at 197 (which includes putting on several pounds of muscle!) and am doing my best to get to a healthy weight and never again be in the 200 club...but I know what it is like (awful) and I know it is possible to get out of it.
Hang in there!

michelle- i will be checking that out, thanks!
good day even though I don't feel so great! I can't decide if it's seasonal stuff since everything is falling out of the trees or it I have pink eye. ( I work with kids all day.....)

Is there room for one more in the group? I'm another shorty (5'1) who is currently at 210 (down from 225 at the end of December.)
I'm not following any special diet or plan, just counting calories and avoiding anything with refined sugar, artificial sweeteners or white flour. The dietary changes are going very well, but I am falling short on exercise....with two kids under 3, I'm so tired at the end of the day, and I'm having a hard time finding the motivation to do much of anything. Thinking of getting Dance, Dance Revolution for a workout...anyone tried this?
Glad to have found this thread and this group. Have a great night everyone.
