HI! My name is Laura and i am 5-5 and 235 lbs as of today. I did weigh 240 almot 2 weeks ago. I am counting calories cuz I do not know what ele to do. When i gave birth, I only weighed 201 lbs! My son is 5(his bday is halloween). I cant believe i have put on so much lately. I have high blood pressure so I am on Diovan. I am also on protonix( for heartburn). I took myself off depo provera lat Sept and currently have the IUD, Mirena. Birth control was part of it but that is why I switched to IUD. I am taking it slow, and watching what I eat. I guess I am supposed to stay under 1700 calories and I walked 20 minutes today. I hate exercise now but I have to do it to lose weight the old fashioned Way!
if you have any suggestions, please tell me....

I'm 6ft, female, 51 years old...I weight 208. I quit smoking in Dec, and gained 25 pounds since then. I was already about 20 pounds over weight. I started to change my diet in Feb, but nothing was happening. So I went through a lot of stress, and trying to motivate myself. I finally got the book, "You on a Diet", the information in there about your body, set me straight. I'm finally educated and on the right track. I'm sure I'll start losing the weight now. I'm excerising every day, walking, strength work, and riding my bike. I'm a housewife, so my day is not always busy. Plus I have a sewing room, and I sit and quilt most of the time. But I am making postive changes. My hubby and I are going to Key West in May, so I'm hoping to lose some weight for that. Then we're going to a wedding in California in June. I really want to look thinner and buy a dress for that. And my big motivation is for September, we're going to a wedding in Brazil, and then staying in Rio for a week after the wedding. So thank goodness I have lots of motivation, just need to see results. I'm so glad I found this site. I've really enjoyed reading your post, and hope to get to know you all. Shane in South Florida
Laura....Try to walk at least 30 minutes, you'll get better results. I started with 30 minutes, I now walk three miles a day, and briskly. When it's bad weather, I exerise with a DVD. I'm a housewife, all my children are grown, so I tend not to move enough. But I'm trying to change that. Because I'm trying to lose over 40 pounds, I'm eating only 1200 calories a day. And because I'm making very good food choices, I don't feel hungry. And doing just fine. Do I like it? Heck no!! But I want to be healthy, and lean. So you can do it too!
Tully - are you doing Turbo Jam too? I just started it and I am ADDICTED! Too much fun!
Wow, dreamcruz, way to go on the 12 lbs!
I'm having trouble keeping up on the posts and keeping everyone straight, but I'm trying! The weather is getting so nice here and that signals the busy season on the farm. So if my posts are spotty, that it why - I'm busy, busy, busy. Hopefully too busy to snack, right?

My we've been busy here! I checked last night and this morning there's a whole slew of new posts. It's become part of my morning routine to eat my oatmeal and catch up on all the reading!
Largo - Welcome! Those sounds likes really nice incentives. Rio and Brazil, I'm in Canada and I was going to say whatever you don't lose you're going to sweat off in Rio and Brazil but, I see you're in So. Florida so, you're already acclimated to the hot weather. My husband and I have plans to go to Korea in June and that was part of the motivation for me as well - a big trip! PS. I'm jealous that you're 6 ft. tall! I'm only 5'1".
ktcort - I'm proud of you for going to gym! Now, can you get my lazy butt up to do my Slim in 6?? It's been here for about a week and I've found myself making every excuse not to do it. Instead, I'll go outside for a walk but, I know I still need to do it.
Tully - Great job on your B! I bet you never thought a B would sound so good! :)
hrdnaussies - I know exactly what you mean about keeping up with everyone and all the new people. Glad to hear that you're too busy to snack...right?
Everyone else - keep up the good work and have a great day!

Butter Toffee sugar-free Life savers...:) That is all I have to say...lol
I was hunting something to put in my mouth when I was just craving something sweet...this way I won't go nuts and go way overboard and it works...they are 9 calories a piece...serving size is 5 pieces for 45 calories but 5 pieces is too much at once...I just need the taste...and I just remembered about my sugar-free popsicles in the freezer...it is a good day!
I am the person who gets on the scale every day just for punishement, I guess, and this week I decided not to get on it until next Monday...I don't need to know what a bad Monday did to me on Tuesday morning...but I am obsessed...let's all hope I can stick to it...that is a goal...:)
Hope everyone is having a terrific day!

Hi everyone! I'm down to 215 this week. Yay!
I saw something interesting this week. The scale at my gym weighs me about about 8 pounds less than my home scale!
It's a great feeling to see that smaller number, of course, but I'm sticking with my home scale for my weight log, etc....I'd rather see how much weight I have really lost than gratify myself with that smaller number!

oooo tabby those sound wayyy too good! I'm gonna have to go find some!
Congrats katy (ppl like to call me katydid too lol)! I have 10 pounds til I see 215 and I'm really hoping I can do that in the next 6 weeks but the way things are going I don't know if it will happen.
I'm going to try soemthign new with my new school schedule. Since I don't have class until 10:30 this quarter, I'm going to try and get to the gym in the morning on Tue/Thur before classes. Hopefully that will help me up my activity and help me get up to losing 8 pounds a month so I can reach my first goal by mid June. I just feel like I"m at a standstill right now and am not losing like I should. I love to sleep in though so it might take a while to get adjusted to it!
Happy Tuesday everyone! Hope you all make low calorie choices haha!

I am so proud of myself. Today I went out to lunch and had to go to the grocery store and the Subway and grocery store are in the same shopping center. The old me would have gotten into my car and drove closer to the grocery store and not even thought twice about it. But instead I walked to the grocery store! It wasn't that far but it just made me realize that I have changed I never would have walked before.
Holy cow guys...my work computer went down yesterday and my home computer, well, let's just say I was bullied by my 5 year old and hubby off that computer. Lol
Tully-I had that problem with measurements and trying to convert according to how foods are labeled, etc. I bought a digital food scale last week and I love it. I picked it up at Target for maybe $20-something bucks. The nice thing is it allows me to put my little plate (heychong!) on it, add a food to weigh, then set it at zero, add another food to weigh, set it at zero and so on. All without removing the plate.
Largo...welcome! My you are such a traveler!

ugh vacation is great but it makes going back to work that much harder! I work 9 hour days too and I'm finding today ridiculously hard to get through.Thank goodness I took some chicken out of hte freezer last night so I don't have to think about what to make when I get home! Only an hour and a half left....must make it through the day!
Ooooo...I was feeling sooo good, I ate really good tonight! Well, it wasn't bad but, it brought me over by a few hundred calories.
However, dinner was pretty dang good...we went for Vietnamese. I had wonton soup, 2 shrimp spring rolls (fresh - not fried), small grilled piece of chicken, beef and a shrimp skewer - all on rice with a small garden salad. And if I would have stopped there I would have been fine...but, ICE CREAM. That did it for me. And it was just that brought me way over the top. So, next time, I'll skip the ice cream.

Sounds delicious hy and if we can't enjoy it every once in a while, what's the use? Sounds like you still feel very good about it and the dinner sounds wonderful!
I feel like my day was a success though I was worried about it for a little while...I ate normal food until dinner when I had a pre-packaged meal...I had McDonald's for breakfast (the boss brought breakfast for our employee meeting) but I did not overdo it...I had Domino's pizza for lunch (a salesman from one of our customers promised pizza if we could get a job done for him today) and I did not overdo it...I had a Hormel meal for dinner with an entire can of cooked carrots, a couple of my sugar free life savers, and a sugar free popsicle...and I only had 1301 calories out of my allowed 1350...woohoo!! Finally a good day!!!

Wow! I can't keep up with everyone anymore.
Largo welcome! You are quite the traveller aren't you. I have an idea for you. You should post a before picture and then a new you picture for each trip because your goal is to lose before the trips and weddings right? Plus we'd get to see some of the scenery too...lol....I've never been anywhere. Oh and congrads on quiting smoking at the same time. That's really hard to do but you did it. You should be proud!
Hyechong- Start that Slim in 6 soon eh? I want to see how well it works. May consider trying it too. Walks are great but you were so excited to get it so now you need to get going ....right....hummmm....lol Just a little nudge...lol Hummm IceCream.....nooooooo get away!
kt- Wish I had a gym close by. You're doing well with your exercise...keep it up. Once you start getting up early every morning it gets way easier. I get up with Hubby at 5:30 every morning. Problem is even when he's on afternoons I still wake up at that time when I could sleep in a little...arggg.
Tabby- I was like you for the scale. Now I won't let myself get on that scale until Friday morning....once a week.
itsmytime- that was a quick post....I gather you were pretty busy. How's everything with you? You ok?
katydid- yay on the loss! I like my home scale too. I don't like my friend's scale...says I weigh 20 lbs more....I'll stick to mine.
trapp- Good for you. Yup we start with small things but slowly we start surprising ourselves....eating better and exercising more without even thinking about it.
vk- glad your computer is back and you managed to kick everyone else off it...lol

shame on me! went for chinese food w/ the b/f cuz he was "starving" haha. I ate 4 bowls of the wonton soup so I wouldn't be eating all the other stuff, had a couple bites of teh sweet and sour pork, and maybe a cup of hte chow mein. And it was like 600 cals! holy crap! ugh I knew we shouldn't have gone :(
And I'm supposed to meet a friend at the bar tonight and I only have 55 cals left for the day. So I figure I'll limit myself to 2 drinks, either rum and diet cokes or light beers. I'll be a little over for today but not too horribly bad. Just gotta be better tomorrow I guess.
What do you guys do when you eat at chinese restaurants? I usually am good about getting the chicken salad but it didn't work tonight haha.

thanks for concern rockinmama! I'm good! I'm "off" from work for spring break, but so far haven't been "off". My boss went away as well as the office manager, and I said "sure, I'll help out"...well, of course, the bottom fell out and I've been swamped!!!! lol
it's all good...it's extra $$ :)
got right back on track from Saturday's adventure. Plus, I saw a lady that I haven't seen in awhile and she has lost lots of weight. (I didn't think she had much to start with) her "trick"?????
WATER<>WATER>>> and calorie counting!! :)

Thank you for the lovely welcome!! I'm very happy I found this site, it's great to have the support.
hyechong: I do carry the weight better being tall, but I feel like an amazon queen, being tall and big. My self-esteem is suffering. So I'm trying to stay motivated, and not give in to defeat.
rockinmama: I think that's a good idea to take before and after pictures from each trip. I live by the beach in So.Florida, and I have a sun conure "mango" and a amazon bird named " Largo". I adore my birds and nature. My three children are out on their own, and now my hubby and I can travel. But I will be a grandmother for the first time this June, I'm having a grandson, "Alexander". So we're very excited about that. And I will be babysitting, while my daughter finishes college in this area. So I have lots of motivation, and looking forward to the rewards of being an empty nester with my very loving hubby. I'm a lucky lady. But not happy how hard it is to lose weight. But I know I'll be healthy for the futue. Take care.....Shane

Hi y'all! Feeling better this morning. had tons of back pain yesterday but after my hubbie rubbie...lol as hyechong calls it....from Deep heating rub I feel much better. It must be that loving touch...lol. I have to work this afternoon though again so hopefully it doesn't start all over again. Tomorrow I work all day too ....no time for rest....need the money.
largo- Oh I love birds. Can't have any cause of my kitties though. Oh and you're gonna be a Grandma....how nice. Congrads to you and your hubby. Yes it is hard to lose weight but you'll feel so good afterwards. And we're here to keep you going girl so don't give up. Drink lots of water....that's my motto....it works.
Itsmytime- glad you're ok...lol just used to you saying more and got a little worried. You're always there for us and I wanted you to know we're here for you too. Yes WATER, and lots of it. I always need that reminder. I fail terribly when I'm working and that's when I should be drinking even more.

kt- For chinese I try to eat lots of their veggies stir fry. I don't feel very good after chinese meals though because they all use msg and I'm alergic to it and get really bad stomach pains and feel sick afterwards. The only chinese food I can eat is in Deep River where my brother lives. No MSG. He's 3 hours away though...which is good I guess. That way I don't get tempted to often..lol Plus tons of sodium in Chinese food....so I definately gotta stay away from it. ONly a treat once in awhile.
