HI! My name is Laura and i am 5-5 and 235 lbs as of today. I did weigh 240 almot 2 weeks ago. I am counting calories cuz I do not know what ele to do. When i gave birth, I only weighed 201 lbs! My son is 5(his bday is halloween). I cant believe i have put on so much lately. I have high blood pressure so I am on Diovan. I am also on protonix( for heartburn). I took myself off depo provera lat Sept and currently have the IUD, Mirena. Birth control was part of it but that is why I switched to IUD. I am taking it slow, and watching what I eat. I guess I am supposed to stay under 1700 calories and I walked 20 minutes today. I hate exercise now but I have to do it to lose weight the old fashioned Way!
if you have any suggestions, please tell me....

tracester-I agree with kaufmkk that this is a lifestyle change.  I know I need to do what I can live with for the rest of my life.

I started January 12, 2008 at 250 and as of today I am 194.6, which comes to a loss of 55.4 pounds in a little more than 3 months.  I am on 5'2 so I had about 127 pounds to lose when I started.

I did not quit eating.  I eat between 1200 and 1400 calories a day.  I did not quit eating all regular foods.  I don't eat out hardly ever anymore and I gave up pop was the biggest change.   I don't fry my foods in oil but I do still eat some pastas and things like that.  I just use portion control now and eat more vegetables and things like that to fill me.

I haven't been to the gym in a little over a week now and I am still losing.  I have some bad weeks but those tend to be after I am sleep deprived and have picked up some night sifts at work.

I usually try to go to the gym 5 days a week for an hour and I have a pretty active job so I am on my feet and moving around for the most part of the day.

I wish you luck and I agree the heavier you are the more water weight comes off.

I also agree with kaufmkk that this is a lifestyle change, your story is very inspirational.  I don't think we can ever eat what ever we want or we will gain it back.  I have lost over 70 lbs twice in my life.  First as a teenager and the second after third child was born. I was about as heavy then as i am now, and took 20+ years to gain it back.  The past 10 years I have had the attitude i don't care this is how i am.  But at 66 years old, it is getting hard for me to move around.  I have always been light on my feet considering how much I weighed.  I developed plantar fisica in my left foot and has been SO painful to walk.  Doctor suggested water exercise, one thing has led to another and now I am committed to take this weight off again and I will keep it off.  I swim laps 3 days a week and do water aerobics.

I really like this site, I think counting calories is the best way go.

Good job on the five pounds, jon!  I was hoping better for April but the weight is just coming off so much slower now.   Oh well..... Spring is here and now I can get outside to do more yard work.  I let myself sit in front of the computer and the TV far too much this winter.

Happy May, everyone!!!

Why hello there. My name is Evalyn (I go by Evy). I've been a "member" of this club since about half way through my senior year of high school (02-03) and am seriously looking to get back out of it. Yes, there are aesthetic reasons, let's be honest, but mainly, I want to be happy and healthy. :)

I'm 22 and go to nursing school full-time and work part-time. May not sound like much, but it's hectic. =P

Um... since March 28 of this year I have lost 17.8 pounds (from 275.8 to 258!!!) through diet (WW Flex Plan) and exercise (I've become a friend!). I'm hoping to continue the pattern.

Anywho, thought I would say hello and wich good luck to all!

I'm fairly new on this thread, rainOrshine2 keep up the good work, I was a heavy teenager and loss it for a few years, then after marriage and children gained it all back. Lost it again after third child, and gained it all back again. If you learn to eat proper portions now, manage your calories and get your exercise. You will be successful.  It was said in a earlier post about lifestyle change.  That is the key in my estimation.  I am now 66, wish I had reached this conclusion years ago.  I have lost 9 lbs since march 30th and plan on getting the rest of it off 1 lb and a time. I think being able to sit down every day post your calories and add the exercise,  read some forums, have a few people on your friends list,  read their journals and respond to them helps keep you focused.

I agree portion control is the key.  I have been not logging my calories for a couple of weeks now.  I am a little more comfortable with know what I should have.  It takes time and a lot of will power and good and bad days.

I have been heavy most of my life also.  I think I managed to stay thin for about 6 years of my life but that is it.  I will do it again and this time I will find a way to keep it off.

I haven't on the threads much lately because I have been very busy with yard work and stuff like that.  I am still with all of this and plan to keep it that way.  I am almost to my half way point,  I weighed in at 187.6 this morning and started at 230 January 12th so there is hope for the rest because I have started this more times than I care to remember and have always given up.  We just need to take it one day at a time.

Good luck everyone and I will try and get on here more often.  Things should slow down  for a little while because I have most of what I need to do done for now.

Just a quick note, don't have much time!  After an induction Monday, followed by 13 hours of labor (with no epidural!) I had a big baby boy weighing in at 8 lbs 12 oz and 22 inches long.  Looking forward to losing this weight again once I'm recovered.  Thanks to everyone who sent me good wishes and I'll be back soon!

Congrats on the baby and good luck to you.

Congratulations on the baby!!

hello everyone.  Man, spring has killed this thread.  Everyone is enjoying the warmer weather.  Being from the south, I hate warm weather.  We don't even get snow to want summer.   Anyway, I have great news!  I have just hit the 40lb mark of weight lose.  That means I only have 15lbs to hit my first target weight.  I have been doing the math and I don't think I can reach my BMI.  I really think I have too much muscle mass which is good, I think!  Hope everyone is keeping on track.  If I can do it, anyone can!  So keep up the good work.

This sounds like the group for me!  I have weighed over 200 pounds for more years than I will ever admit.  I am 56 years old, have a high stress job, work way too many hours and need help.

I just started dieting again for the 1000th time, but I feel really positive about this one.  One positive is that I haven't gained any weight on the past year, but until this week I haven't lost any either. (2.5 pounds)

I am still not comfortable disclosing my current weight like most of you have.  Maybe after a few months - and some success I will be able to.  For now I am just the happy dieter who is trying to be mature enough about my situation to accept the fact that if you lose a consistent 2 pounds a week you will be 100 pounds lighter in a year.

Welcome deborawe1.  Congrats on making the first step to a healthier life.  I started in January after being big all my life.  I tried everything but nothing worked until I found this website.  I have lost 40lbs since January.  The first few weeks the weight came off fast.  Then it's been a constant 2lbs a week.  The time flies by it seems.  I figure it took me my entire life to put on the weight, why not wait a year or year and a half for it all to be gone.

You can do it.  There will be bad days but that's when you push extra hard not to get frustrated and watch the lbs slowly wash away!

hello again!

So I was a part of this group ages ago, I went away but now I'm back! Since January I have lost 20 pounds and am down to 260 from 280. Not too much but I'm still working on it. I count my caolries, work out 5-6 times a week, aerobic and anaerobic exercises, and am just leading a healthier lifestyle. With the help of my roommates I have become remotivated and have been for a while. I just thought it'd be fun to talk to other people in my weight range and see where we are all at. I tell you, the key to my weight loss has to definitely be pre-planning my meals. I am still not at a level where I trust myself making on the spot decisions. But with everything planned out, well its been wonderful. I look forward to hearing everyone's success stories and progress they will continue to make. It's May people, lets work it! Summer is just about here and you know what that means....FUN!

Thanks for your encouragement!

Went out to dinner tonight with my Dad.  Old people food at a buffet.  I'm very proud of myself started with a good salad and stayed away from the fried foods and high calorie desserts!

I am still around but have beenvery busy.  On my days off I am either outside working or out at the farm with my husband cleaning up.

I have now lost 70 pounds and 57 to go so I am on the down hill side now and I know I can do this.  Some days I struggle but things will only get better.

Hope everyone has a great week.

Just seen this post, I'm 5'5" 237 lbs. Have high blood pressure have been on Atenelol for over a year, I have been suffering from heart burn everyday and have finally made a doctors appointment to see what I can do. I hate exercise I have always had shortness of breath, do not use an inhaler but find it very difficult to breath when going for walks. It seems every Monday it diet starting day but will fail by Friday. I do know it is easier walking on a treadmill rather than walking down the street.

Sorry I've been gone a lot. I have been super busy with the end of the school year approaches (I'm a teacher). I just have to get through two more weeks.

ase-t: congrats on the 40 pounds! And if you can keep up two pounds a week that's fantastic. Good job.

sharpdust: don't knock 20 pounds down!

I agree with the pre-planning thing. I never eat dinner until I've logged breakfast and lunch and see where I am. I look at the analysis and see what nutrients I need to go for, and how many calories I'm allowed. I also try to check out restaurant menus online when I know I'm going out to eat.

deborarwe1: good job on the self-control at the buffet. I struggle a lot when at restaurants. And buffets are a HUGE test of my will-power.

imhoff: congrats on the 70 pounds! Wow! You amaze me!

lineline: I struggled with asthma and heartburn and some of those same issues. The important thing is to do what you can, try to eat healthy, and just keep trying to do your best. Even if you only lose a half pound a week, that's two pounds a month. Drink lots of water, that helps some with the breathing issues and the heartburn, in my experience. And, of course, follow doctor's advice!

well a couple of weeks ago i got staff infection for the fourth time on top of my heap sucks huh. It started out as a bug bite and it got scratched. well any who i went back to 267 but with strict diet and exercise im down to 253 and trying to lose 13 more by the time i go to the beach. this is the smallest ive ever been and im loving it i can finally buy cloths out of a regular store instead of going into the big and tall section. i hope to hope to hear from you all soon.

R-MAMA that means you too id liek to know what your regemine has been latly
