Awesome, we have a cheer leader in our midst.  We definately needed one of them and I agree, Your Pompoms rock vk!  And you'll do fine this weekend.  I have faith in you...in me ? well that's another story..lol

Hye is back! Yay!  Missed ya girl.  Did you check out the recipe boards?  I recall there were some links on there for low cal cheesecakes that are really good.  Gotta find some of those mini tins.  I did see them at Dollorama once..I'll have to check again. oh and have you tried freezing the jello puddings....nummy better the icecream.  And it get hard so it take longer to eat so you can enjoy it longer.

kt- Picnic Day....sounds like alot of fun.  And good for you on cutting back on the drinking.  It can really put the pounds on.  I keep it as a special treat.  I don't drink much at home. You're doing well girl.

serena- sounds like a tough personal trainer. Heehee I need one of those for sure.

itsmy- you'll do great Monday....we have a cheer leader now so I'll join her in RA,RA,Raing you when you lose that pound.  Vk get out your Pompoms!

ticker- awww yes, to cross my legs again...can't wait. And I still care what my Dad thinks too.  He used to tease me horribly when I was younger about my weight.  I think back now...I was 16 and weighed 135....almost the goal weight I'm going for now.  Shouldn't have taken the teasing so personal but I did...not that it's his fault I'm fat...don't get me wrong...that is totally my doing.  I just shouldn't have been so sensitive but at 16 it was the worst thing in the world for me then
Hi everybody and welcome to the newest members of this group.

hye - thanks for the cheescake idea.

I am making salmon cakes tonight.  the salmon, bread crumbs and celery will be 477 calories for 8 little cakes.  I am looking forward to it but I don't know what to have with them.
ginny,

I'm sure you've already eaten but, asparagus.  Sauteed fresh green beans or steamed broccoli.  That's what I try to serve with fish or seafood.  It makes a great match.  At least in my opinion!

Speaking of Esparagus, did you know that it is really good raw?  The other day a friend of mine saw another girl at the gym eating it raw and she got some and tried it and liked it so I tried it and it is a nice refreshing little raw snack!  I was pretty surprised.  I never thought of eating it raw.  It's not stringy or anything.  It taste just like peas.  (so if you like peas, which I do, you'll like it.)

I am so excited about losing weight.  I don't know why I didn't do it sooner.  We always think that a "year" is soooo long, but really every year goes by so fast, that if I would have just stayed on it for one year a long time ago, I wouldn't have been overweight pretty much all through my 30's.  Now at 41, I really want to try to save my 40's before I hit my 50's.  And boy does time go fast.

So hang in there everybody!!  You'll be at goal before you know it!

Ticker-Bell
HI  my name is jeanie and im 30 years old 5-5 and 210 lbs as of today but a week ago i was 216. I stared taking slimquick extreme last sat and going to the ymca every day for a hr  i am counting my fat calories but i dont know if i should count them our the others if any one has any info please let me know .  I think the weight i lost so far is from water weight i dont drink soda anymore ( have not had one in 2 weeks now ) so far at the gym i am burning 450 calories a day on a one hr work out 6 days a week  can anyone tell me how many i sould be eating???? my goal is to lose 74 pounds!   anyone want to be suport buddys??????
Hye - thanks for the suggestion.  I love aparagas.  I would have never thought to put it with seafood.  I ended up eating my little cakes and feeling stuffed and so didn't have anything else with it.  I did have my fat free pudding a while later.  :-)

ticker - I am going to try the asparagas raw.  I love peas...mmm.  I will turn 39 on Friday this coming week and yes, I do want my 40s and 50's and more to be great.  Think of that...more...I want to live longer and being healthy is the only way to do that.

Jeanie - welcome...this is the site where you can find support and buddys to work on goals with.  I am still feeling umcomfortable about how much I am supposed to eat.  I have tried several sites that tell you your expected calorie intake.  I think I use between 2800 and 3091 a day at my height and weight and eat around 2000.  If I have a regular day and I eat 2000, then an 800 calorie deficit is good.  On other days when I have worked outside on my farm for hours, I usually eat more.  Some days I think 2000 calories is way too much for me but eating 2300 seems even worse.  If you do your profile, there is a button that will help you with your allowance for the day.  You can also go to dietdetective.com and there is a calorie button there as well.

Question for everybody.  Last night I was full after my salmon cakes and then my fat free pudding and the rest of my water allowance.  I still had 100 calories to go to reach 2000.  WHat do you guys do when you have gone under?  Do you then eat the extra the next day to avoid going too low?
Just a quick note before the in-laws get here...

Ginny - as long as I'm over 1200 I don't try to make up the calories.  I read somewhere that your body needs at least 1200 calories a day so that it doesn't go into starvation mode.  I'm trying to get down to about 1350 calories a day.  I started out at 1650 and now I'm down to 1500.  I think I'll be at 1500 for a while.  It's pretty easy to go over the calories without realizing it.

Alright, I'm off to make lunch for the in-laws.  Chef salad....great meal and way under calories!!!

Hi I'm Ellen. I'm 52 years old and down to 212 from 225. I've been to "200 Land" twice before in my life and got down to 140 both times. Hope to be able to do it again (I've got 3 boxes of "skinny" clothes I'm itching to wear again) ... but it does get harder the older I get.

I know they say that you need about 1200 calories a day but I have been aiming for 1000. Sometimes I go over a little but for the most part I have been keeping on track and feeling pretty satisfied. I did notice that when I went under the 1000, I didn't lose anything and even gained a pound or two.

I have lost about 13 pounds in a little over a month. Is that a decent rate? And should I really consider raising my calorie intake to 1200?
welcome jeanie!!  congrats on the weight loss!!!!  and giving up your sodas.  (my weak area...as i confess that here on this site every other day...lol)  you'll find lots of support, encouragement, and shoulders if you need them!!!

ginny- I'm like hye, I don't make up any calories over 1200.  My profile said to keep calories at 1350 if sedetary, and 1750 if light activity.  Is that the page you have looked at?  I know one page shows how much to eat in order to lose 1-2 pounds a week (allowance page) and the other shows what you burn (expenditure), which is higher.  The only reason I mention this is b/c my SIL saw the expenditure page and thought that was her daily intake (it was like 2100 ).

My hubby is in that weight loss challenge at his gym and the "experts" there said women should stay at 1200-1350 in order to lose weight.

I don't mean to sound so noisy.  I was just thinking about my SIL.

and thanks for tip on dietdetective...i've never been there!  I've also heard calorieking.com is great for restaurants.  very specific.
well, welcome ell-bell!!  you got in there while I was typing!!! "200 land"  that's good!!

i think 13 pounds is awesome!!!!!!!  well, "they" say that going under 1200 will put your body into starvation mode, but it sure doesn't sound like the case with you!!!  I've also heard it's good to fluctuate during the week.  Like maybe, you could go to 1200 a couple of times in a week.  There are a couple of times a week I go to about 1300 ..and I'm still losing.

Plus, I take those vitamins that we have all talked about!!  (the one a day weight loss ones)  that was a conversation on here about 3 weeks ago.  I truly think it has helped "kick" it into gear.
Good morning everyone!

Welcome Ell & Jeanie!!

WOW 1000 calories a day?  I have a hard time staying between 1500 - 1600; I always seem to end up closer to 1550 - 1700.  That's great that you can do that & 13 pounds so far?!  FANTASTIC!!!

Itsmy - calorieking.com huh?! That looks pretty interesting, I'm going to have to research it more =)

Ticker - Good tip on the asparagus, I'm going to have to try that out next time we buy some; I love peas too. =)

Off to the airport to pick up some friends -- Have a nice day everyone and keep up the GREAT work!!!!!
Hi Ell and Jeanie, welcome to the forum!  Also, congrats on your losses so far.  Keep it up!!!

I'm with TG, I don't think I'd want to go that low in calories.  I s/b at 1550, but I range anywhere from 1300 to 1500 calories.  When I started off I was closer to 1000 because I was afraid to go overboard and I was not a nice person.  Lol

Ginny-I make up calories sometimes.  If I'm way too low for the day I'll make them up, otherwise I'll just go with it.  Just a tip: if you like milk and you want to make up some calories, milk is a perfect balance in nutrition and easy calories.  Rockinmama...milk has the peace sign!  Lol
Hi Everybody!  I don't post a whole lot, but I read the thread everyday!

Congrats to everyone on all the weight lost! WOOHOO, this group rocks!  I finally was able to start water therapy and really like it altho it does take a lot of time out of the day (i have to go out of my little town to the location)...

Anyway, I began on 1/2/07 and have lost 32 lbs!!! I still have a long way to go, but, hey, it's happening.  One of my goals is too lose 50 by 8/1, my birthday..
thanks vk -  i do not like milk but I do like yogurt and the ones I usually get are 90 calories so that could work... thanks

welcome to the newest members...congrats on all the weight loss.
Hi Jeanie- wow, you are motivated...1 hr workout 6 days a week.  Not sure what you mean ....I count all my calories..not just fat calories.  I weigh 216 now and the tools on here tell me that at light activity I should eat 1550 cals a day.  I figured you at moderate activity and it said you should eat 1850 cals.  Go under tools and Allowance.  Hopefully that is what you wanted to know.

scott- Nice to see you back...wooohoooo on the 32 lbs lost.  Glad the water therapy is working for you.

Ell- welcome- yes I would up my cal. to at least 1200...more if you are active.
My woohoo for this week, I just got off my treadmill for the 6th day in a row and did 270 minutes this week.  I had been doing an hour a day but then slacked off 2 weeks ago.  Now I am back on.  Although my treadmill counts up, I count down in my head.  The last 10 minutes are the easiest but the 10 just before that are the worst.  I have to keep telling myself I am not done, I am not quitting early.  Any tricks you all use for monitvating yourself to stay on...?
hi I am having a nervous breakdown. I am makimg tamales one of our favorites and I know that is some thing I need to watch cause not only do do i eat a tamale or too I eat the filling as I make it  and know I am sitting here in tears because I am over stuffed and over caloried . I don't know how or why this keeps happening too me!!!I want to just staple my mouth shut. I am so Dang fustrated and it is as it happens subconsciously. I am really going to crazy trying to get on track and as soon as I realized I over did it I went straight for the whoppers. Is there any one else out there that this is as emotional over this as me or do I need to be institutionalized?? I am serious this is such an emotional roller coster for me and I feel like I am truly alone. Please help me I already exercised but maybe i need some new tactics for when I cook. any suggestions please email me @ mabear32059@yahoo.com cause I can't figure out quite how this thing cc thing works yet.
Aww mabear- it's ok, you don't need to be institionalized!  We've all done that.  I too am very bad for that so I started having chopped up veggies already cut up and washed it my fridge.  When I go to cook supper the first thing I take out is my veggies...sometimes I just open up a bag of those 100 cal snacks...like the oreo christies.  Instead of eating what I'm preparing i grab for those and because they are right there on the counter in front of me I naturally grab for them instead of the other stuff.  Has to be something you love that is low cal.  Works for me. Hope it works for you too. And don't be so hard on yourself.  ((hugs))

Ginny-  try doing it to some dance music....you know the ones that have that get up and go beat!
mabear - I agree with rockinmama.  I have a horrible time with snacking while I am cooking and I talked it over with my husband.  Now I cook the veggies frist and put my portion on my plate.  While I am then cooking the rest I can grab these.  When I sit down to eat, I don't have the veggies anymore but then I did not over do it.  I have also done the cut up veggies like rockin...there are only 35 calories in 9 baby carrots.  They are crunchy and you have to chew them which makes you feel good.  I have spent a lot of time thinking about why I snack or CHEAT as I like to call it.  It makes me think I am getting more than others.  Somewhere back in time I must have felt like I wasn't getting my share (maybe those diets I was put on as a kid :-) and I am trying to make sure I get my share, sabotaging myself in the end.  Who knows?  The good thing is here (yes there is something good here) YOU recognized it, and asked for suggestions.  You can do something about this.  You can plan ahead the next time you are going to cook and have something ready.  We will be rooting for you.
the dance music is a good idea rockin...I was listening to our local country station but maybe should find a dance station instead.
