HI! My name is Laura and i am 5-5 and 235 lbs as of today. I did weigh 240 almot 2 weeks ago. I am counting calories cuz I do not know what ele to do. When i gave birth, I only weighed 201 lbs! My son is 5(his bday is halloween). I cant believe i have put on so much lately. I have high blood pressure so I am on Diovan. I am also on protonix( for heartburn). I took myself off depo provera lat Sept and currently have the IUD, Mirena. Birth control was part of it but that is why I switched to IUD. I am taking it slow, and watching what I eat. I guess I am supposed to stay under 1700 calories and I walked 20 minutes today. I hate exercise now but I have to do it to lose weight the old fashioned Way!
if you have any suggestions, please tell me....

I guess I'll weigh in next week on Monday, since I started today (well, yesterday now since it's 12am)! :)

I'm sure I'll be like that too, turtlegirl. It probably has a lot to do with where you are and what you're doing that day.. like going out to eat or whatever. When I'm at home it's much easier to eat smaller portions, haha.
That's probably it Jack! I know for today (Moday - just going on 10pm PST here) I was up SUPER early for meetings so I was eating sooner & it's so later that I feel like I ate a ton... just around 1650, but still feels like a ton of food.  But today i was just plain hungry!

Hope everyone starts off their Tuesday off right!
Thanks everyone, for your condolences! I think i did better today...i went to my swim aerobics class that i skipped last Weds and Fri...made me feel a lot better. I'm wondering if getting more exercise is building muscle and accounting for the extra five lbs...my son thinks so. I gotta get to bed..goodnight all!
I lost another pound!  Well, I started this whole thing on the 18th, so in 6 days I've lost 2 lbs now.  YEAH!!  It's amazing how this really works, because when I get to that 3500 (give or take) mark of saving calories, I lose the weight.  So I guess there is a science to it! hahaha!!  The one thing I'm still trying to figure out though, is what is good choices and bad choices.  The day before I ate a lot of things like raisin bran, veggies, etc.  Then yesteday, my son wanted to buy me lunch at McDonalds.  I was nervous about it, but went ahead and treated myself, having a grilled chicken club sandwhich.  I could see the fat and sodium count just being unreal.  But at the end of the day, my "grade" was actually higher than the day before.  Go figure.  Maybe it's the variety.  I don't know.  But I was expecting not a good score for the day.  I will say however, I was good the rest of the day with salad for lunch, and then I walked the second I got home, to try and burn off some of the calories I took in at Micky D's.  Have a great day!!
On 21 April i posted my weight at 238.5 lbs, im now down to 233lbs on the 23 April.

So far ive lost 30.8lbs since the 22nd of March. I cant wait to reach that 50lb mark, shouldnt be to long now.
welcome truth...glad to see you come aboard...It has been good for me on certain days to pack my food before I start eating.  I have this huge lunch box thing that I put my food in and chart everything.  When I get hungry, I can go to it instead of the fridge.  I try to put evrything in there through the afternoon and then I only have to worry about dinner.  I tell myself I can have ALL that food and don't feel so deprived.  Then I am not so tempted.

hye...yeah for going for a walk...yeah!!!  I will think of tricks for the weekend.  I am sort of lucky right now (not really) that my husband is working six days a week.  We have the same routine here all 6 days and that does make things a little easier.  On Sunday, he wants to lay in bed and eat all day so sometimes that is hard.  ;-)

rockin...Cutting down on the carbs may help rock the boat some but don't deprive yourself...which can make me cheat in a hurry.  Have you tried cutting out white carbs yet?  no potatoes or white breads but sweet potatoes yes and whole grain breads yes.   Both of these foods are so very very good for you.  More protien is a great idea though...I will be sending good thoughts your way.

congrats Chris on the inches lost...

congrats goddess on your workout...

wtg..vk on staying within your calories budget...

turtle...Some people keep track for the whole week and then the roller coaster doesn't feel like it's going so fast.  To lose one lb. you need to eat 3500 calories less than you burned.  If you are up and down all week but in the end eat 3500 less, you will still lose that lb. and you don't have to be on an emotional coaster ride...

Carol...great job for making your swimming class.

cuzmom...wtg on losing another lb. and getting such good grades on your food.

congrats kylie...

I forget who was talking about changing the grade on your treadmill and such...wanted to say that it was not me...didn't want to take credit for it...I am glad it helped you though.

Stats for yesterday, Monday, 4/23/07, day 49...I ate 1833 calories, drank 66 ounces of water, and only worked out 20 minutes.
hey Rockin u can get the measureing tape in any sewing department only $1 walmart, target, joanns wherever!!  Now i wish i could get rid of my scale everytime i go to the bathroom i get on it and it drives me crazy!!!!!

hugz all happy tuesday!!
wtg cuzmommy!!!!!  you are off to a great start!!!!!  woohoo!!!

and no wonder i didn't lose this week---kylie is losing it all!!!! congrats!!!  that is an awesome 1 month loss!!!!

i hope everyone has a great Tuesday!!

chris--i have a doctor's scale in my laundry room...i started putting a shirt or something else that needs to dry over the top of it, so i wouldn't look at the scale!!!!  hahaha...hey, whatever works, right??
Sorry I haven't been on lately. I have been doing a lot of gardening ... yeah spring!

Last evening after dinner my husband talked me into going hiking in the woods behind our house. We were out for over an hour. When I looked up hiking on CC's activity log it said that hiking burns about 576 cals an hour.  Guess I'll be doing more of that ... beats walking on a treadmill ... better scenery!

Welcome to all the newcommers, hi to all the veterans & hugs to everyone!
Good mid-morning everyone!  Your resident night owl has awoke!  Hahahaha!

I am so very, very, very happy this morning!  Rockinmama ROCKS!!  She was sooo right!  I drank lots and lots and lots of water yesterday.  She had said that my gain was water retention from the weekend of salty foods.  This morning I get up and get on the scale!  Yesterday it was 205.2, today it was 203!!!!  So, let that be lesson to everyone, you can certainly indeed retain water and a lot of it!  For me it was 2.2 lbs!

That is the quickest weight loss I've had so far but, what Rockinmama was telling me made sense.  I knew I couldn't have gained 2 lbs. last week because I didn't eat enough calories!  Oh, I've sooo learned my lesson though.  That feeling of having gained weight was not good.

Rockinmama - YOU JUST ROCK!

Jack - I find it easier to stay on the wagon when I stay home as well.  Unfortunately, I do have to get out once in a while and I'm learning how to eat better when I'm out.  Mine is not so much portions but, more the choices.

Turtle - Thanks for the wishes!  I started my Tuesday great!!!

Carol - Well, as I've learned very recently, the extra gain could be from a lot of different things especially water.  I'm glad you're doing better and went for a swim.  Hang in there!

cuzmommy - Oh, congratulations on another pound gone!  It's such a great feeling, isn't it??  As far as the food grade, it could very well be the variety.  Good for you for coming home and trying to walk off McDonalds.  I had Wendy's last week and ended up walking all the calories off just from shopping all day!  :)

kylie - Wow!  that is an amazing amount of weight to loose in such a short time.  Congratulations!  Please make sure you are getting enough calories in a day (at least 1200) and drinking lots of water.  While I think it's great that you're losing weight, that's really a lot, maybe a little too much in one month.  I do understand that a lot of us lose weight differently so, as long as you're making healthy choices and losing it - all the more power to you!  :)

Ginny - That's a pretty good trick.  The packed lunch box.  I know I do that for my husband for work but, I didn't think about doing it for me at home.  Thanks...I might have to steal your idea.

Rockinmama - I agree with Ginny.  You shouldn't cut out the carbs completely just change them to better choices and make as much of the carbs whole grain as possible.  The carbs will give you energy on the days you work that's why athletes eat plates of pasta before a tournament.  It gives them quick energy.

Everyone else have a great day!!  And great job on your success.  I'm off to do my macroeconomics homework....two more weeks left in the semester - thank goodness!

Check in later!

i feel so bad. I haven't been making as much of an effort to buy good foods as i was in march. I still track what I eat adn all, but it seems i've been going over 1600 cals more frequently. I need to get my motivation back. i keep saying i'm going to the gym adn hten i don't go. i need to feel like i did inmarch so i canstart losing more!
kt-with all on your plate (so to speak) it's hard to stay focused on you. Remember that you are the most important of everything going on around you.  What's your daily calorie alotment for a loss?  1600 a day is only 50 calories over my daily calories, so if you're very close, it's not that bad.  Also, don't forget about how much stress can affect us and our bodies.  Maybe you don't need a formal exercise, instead try window shopping (like Hye) or walking along a beach...something to help let you release your stress a little.  Whatcha think?

Ell-you have woods behind your house!?!?  Ooh, that sounds nice.  I totally agree that beats walking on a treadmill any day of the week.  Especially the time with the hubby!  ;)

Chris-I'm afraid to bust out my measuring tape for myself.  The last time I tried measuring my hips the damn tape wasn't long enough...it's a freakin 5' tape measure!!!  I told you all I have a bubble butt!  It might fit now but I'm too chicken to see.  Lol

Ginny-that was me about the treadmill trick...hmm, I wonder who it was that threw out that idea?  Your already in the 40's on your countdown!!  Yeah for you!

Kylie-wow, congrats on your losses so far!  Keep it up girl and do tell your secret!!!  Are you doing both exercising and watching the food.  You must be for seeing such great numbers.

Cuz-congrats on your loss too!!!  :)

Hye, I wonder if Itsmy's idea to pack a bag of things for everything but dinner would help on the weekends.  I pretty much do that during the week.  I pack my lunch and snacks for work and keep my oatmeal at my desk for my breakfast.  When I go home, my bag is usually empty and I'm ready for dinner.  I'll have to see if I can discipline myself to try that this weekend coming.
wow, it's so encouraging to see that so many others are doing well! i did lose a little yesterday...just 4 tenths of a pound, but it sure did make me feel better.

Thaks to all who offer me encouragement...i need it at this point, or up i will go again! gotta get past this danger point, and all of you are so helpful! THANK YOU!!!!

Ell...i envy you your hike! Before my back injury, i loved to hike! my seim aerobics is strengthening the bad leg (sciatic nerve damage) and i hope to be able to hike again one day. the gardening sounds fun, too....i only have a very small plot for flowers at our apt complex, and a few pots on my patio, but oh my i do enjoy the flowers!

if anyone out there is feeling discouraged today...hang in there...do the best you can today, and know that there are lots of tomorrows to make better choices and be happier with yourself! ohhhhh, the plateaus can be discouraging...*sigh*

Have a perfectly lovely day everyone!
hello all,

so I weighed in yesterday and lost 1 pound, I must admit it frustrates me a little because I am working soooo hard at it!! I work out everyday and I am counting everything I eat and making healthier choices. So this week I am going to be more aware of my starch intake. I want to thank everyone for there words of encouragement.

I am also doing some strength training, does anyone know how long it usually takes for your muscle gain to level out? I was thinking maybe my loss is low because for the last 3 weeks I have added strength training in with my cardio.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a quick easy breakfast that doesnt contain a starch? I don't always have time to cook something so I am looking for a grab and go kind of thing.
it is raining and blowing here and I want to eat more.  It is only 11:30 and I have had 1013 calories already.  I was so hungry.  I think my body is telling me that 1830 is not enough but I am alteast trying to control the urge to pigout.  I have decided that if I do eat more I will not berate myself but that I will not go over 2100 calories.  So, that made me feel a little better, giving me some lee-way if I do get something else to eat.

I wish I had a suggestion Bukerj...Everything I thought of had a starch.  Mayby you could take the time to boil some eggs ervy couple of days and peel them.  Then when you need to grab, take 2 of those, an apple, and a yougurt with you.  Maybe others have suggestions.
thanks vk. it's so hard to stay focused on what i need when there is so much happening. that's kinda been the story of my life haha. i think i mostly need to get back to cooking my food b/c it's a lot harder to stay w/in cals when i'm eating out or buying food. seems like that's just gotten away from me this month. i get stuck making the same meals usually b/c it's all i know that's pretty low cal (chicken and potatoes or some other side). anyone have any good dinner ideas that are around 600-800 cals?
Hi everyone - hope you are all doing well!

Carol - great job at getting to your swim aerobics class!! I'm looking into one of those classes that start in June; I did a few classes when I was younger and enjoyed it; so hopefully I can get right back into it!

Cuz - WTG on the 2lbs gone! I think you did make a good choice by having the grilled McDonalds; grilled usually gets the fat/grease out of your food a little more! Plus going for walk later is always good -- great job!!!

Kylie - WTG on your loss! So much weight just jumping right off you! I worry that you are depriving your body -- please make sure you get enough calories in, 1200 is the minimal recommendation... you know your body and what you can and can't do, just want to make sure that you're healthy and happy!! Still.. WTG on your loss!!!

Ginny - I will have to look at only viewing the calories for the week rather than daily.   I do something similar for the week days regarding the lunch box.  The night before I plan my breakfast, snack, lunch & drive snake; when I get home I usually have a little extra that I didn't eat all of -- which is great because then I feel like I get to splurge for dinner =)

Rockin' - I agree with not cutting out the carbs; you need those to give you the necessary energy to go through the day. I think it comes back to making good choices; try switching to wheat - this might help!  Good Luck - I'm here to cheer you on!!

Hye -  YEAH!!! I'm so excited for you!! I'm glad you started today off right!!

KT - it happens to all of us, you have so much going on right now somethig is bound to slip a little.  One key here is that you are aware of it.  Try to keep a smile on, things will turn out OK and we are all here for you!! {{{HUGS}}}

VK - You just make me giggle!! that's really I can say right now to you!!

WTG Bukerj!!! A pound is a pound and you just need it to go away and the minimum 1 pound at a time! You could also be gaining muscle from the strenght training.

Well all I hope that your Tuesday is going well!  I have to finish up work & then head home so I can take a dog to the vet (just routine checkup) and then start working on what to pack for our weekend get-a-way.... oh, nothing 'romantic'... this Saturday is 'Opening day' for fishing East of the mountains and every year some of my hubbys family/extended family head over for a few days for some fishing and fun time.  Every year we end up missing it because I'm traveling or he is sick or we just can't take time off work... this year we planned ahead so we are going!! Yeah!!  On a plus side I have some friends out that way, so I'm hoping to get w/them one night!

Keep up the great work everyone!!!  {{{{HUGS}}}
sorry for the long note!! I'll try to stay on top of the posts so they wont be so long in the future... well except for next week when I have to go 3 1/2 days without you all =(
Hi all I just want to let every one to know that I did not fall off the wagon I just have been spinning in circles with finals coming up next week and have had no time for any thing except studying. I usually like to snak when I study but have been doing real good this week with that.  I have managed to loose another 2.5 pounds for a total of 8.5 lost Yeah!!!! I know this will slow down soon as I am probably loosing my excess water but it sure is a great motivator when you think of the potential. Well I just wanted to touch base I am off to study I have an algebra final tomorrow at 9:00. Check in tomorrow after noon.
mabear...congrats on the loss...good luck with the finals

Kt...tacos can be a great dinner...very lean meat, lots of veggies, salsa instead of sourcream...yum...french fries can even be a good side to any meat if you so your portion right...we "nuke" the portion on a plate for 3 minutes then transfer to a pice of tinfoil.  We place it on the broiler in the bottom of the oven (preheated) and wait 4 minutes.  THey are crispy, golden brown, and no extra fat/oil.  (the second batch may be done in 3 1/2 minutes or so.  THere are 4 our us here so we do 1 batch at a time, which seems crazy but then my youngest helps with the portion size for each person and does the microwaving(a good lesson for him).  good luck on your finals too...it will soon be over...

turtle...I get worried about long notes too when I need to catch up. :-)
