Over 200 club!
HI! My name is Laura and i am 5-5 and 235 lbs as of today. I did weigh 240 almot 2 weeks ago. I am counting calories cuz I do not know what ele to do. When i gave birth, I only weighed 201 lbs! My son is 5(his bday is halloween). I cant believe i have put on so much lately. I have high blood pressure so I am on Diovan. I am also on protonix( for heartburn). I took myself off depo provera lat Sept and currently have the IUD, Mirena. Birth control was part of it but that is why I switched to IUD. I am taking it slow, and watching what I eat. I guess I am supposed to stay under 1700 calories and I walked 20 minutes today. I hate exercise now but I have to do it to lose weight the old fashioned Way!

Hey Rockinmama ... Sounds like you could use a good laugh! &nb sp; Click Here
I would have to agree that a low carb diet is hard to follow. I lost 40 pounds (and gained back 60) a few years back but I tell you without the bacon and the cheese I never would have stuck with it and I too find the way I'm doing it now to be soo much easier to live with long term.
I've been surprised to find some clothes I like at Sears because I never used to like their clothes. Fashion Bug is not too bad but truthfully I don't find a lot of clothes I like right now. I can't stand the jean look where the front and back have the bleached out stripe down the middle. Hopefully by the time I can fit into smaller sizes the fashions will change. I like to dream of the day when I can go to a store and pick from the much larger selection that a normal size person gets to choose from!
Glad to see you back on here mama...you were missed! Hang in there!
vk.. that is really nasty what that town did with the Lane Bryant store. I guess fat people are safe to pick on because we don't fight back. I guess because we think badly of ourselves.

ellbell- You're so funny...heehee. If I ate like that I'd really have a deficit....lol. You're too much....lol (((giggle))))
That was really good ellbell! My cat never seems to turn down any food at all. I guess that's why he's such a fat chunk, lol. He used to get up on my counter and lick all over the butter! So disgusting. You could tell that's what he'd done because his tounge would leave little stripes on the butter. Needless to say, I now have a covered butter dish!

Rockinmama-nice to see you! I think you are pretty lucky to have lost that one pound. I lost 12.5 since starting here on april ninth and I have managed six back on that I am not sure why but I think is gonna give me heck to loose. I was too afraid to check the scale this morning to afraid It would be higher still and I will loose it. I am doing the biggest loser challenge so I have to post wednesday for that So I am gonna try to stay away from the scale until then. Fear what a great moptivator huh?
Elle- that was great If only it was so easy to walk away from food. especially when you make it sound that tempting. hee-hee.
Well I am babysitting a ten month old and four year old today and studying for my two last finals so I should be on and off again today.

Itsmy, you're not kidding, it is hard to keep up with all the posts. I have resorted to printing them out at work once in a while and reading them at lunch or at the red lights on the way home. I get a lot of horns behind me sometimes but :P to them. Lol I'm not complaining though...I've got nothin but love for all you guys!!!
Ok, it's almost 10 and I have to try to stay on schedule. I have to go eat my oatmeal before it gets too late.

Well, yesterday I was a very good girl and it seems it paid off. My official weigh in is on Monday but, I do jump on the scale ocassionally throughout the week. Today it was 203, I'm holding steady. It gives me an incentive to be good for the weekend.
This morning, I an onion omelet and it tastes so yummy! I haven't had eggs in the morning in so long. It was the same calories as my regular breakfast so, I figured why not.
As for the low-carb - high protein diet, aka Atkins, I think there are some long term side effects to this diet. All of that high cholesterol stuff can't be good for you. I think a balanced diet is what everyone should be after with an ocassional goodie here and there. As long as the bulk of your diet is are healthy balanced meals. I've seen people do great with the Atkins diet but, as soon as they go off they blow up like a balloon.
The bad thing about all these fad diets is just that, fads. Once you get off the diets your body reacts by hording all the calories from the food you've been depriving it.
Personally, I feel the only way to lose weight and maintain weight loss, is by eating healthy, watching your calories...ahem...exercising. (I'm not the best about that e-word.) For all of us, we will all have to keep an eye on our weight even if we get to our goal weight.
That's my two cents...wow, I've been very opinionated lately...! :) Have a great day everyone!

Ell-bell...your flowers are absolutely gorgeous! It did cheer me up, thank you! Gosh, i was busy all day yesterday, and don't know how to sum up a greeting to everyone who poted...so i'll just say HI EVERYONE!!!!
Accountability here....got a lot more exercise than usual yesterday, and ended my day by eating more than i should have. My hubby left some potato chips between our chairs, and i ate quite a few. then i sat htere feeling guilty and did leg scissors and waved my arms around to hopefull ward off some of the impending doom, LOL! I gotta try that cat diet! With my luck, my bod would think i was in starvation mode, and i'd gain....teehee...

vk-that's a great idea about the posts!! cuz i feel that i haven't given the newbies enough RAH, RAH, RAH!!! b/c i go through them quickly!!
i'm with hye and the rest about Atkins...been there, done that. Started at about 230 went down to 205......gained it back to 245! and it was...fluffier!!! (so funny how I can remember all of my weight gains and losses but can't remember how much I debit for gas when I fill up...hmmmm)
life is crazy right now and I'm staying at my 1200 calories. Last week I had that 1 1/2 pound gain and I haven't lost it yet. I am feeling low about it.
I know what to do....exercise consistently (oohh, the e word hye!...yuck..me 2) and water water water.
I dont know...just kinda sad about it. I feel that I have so much to lose that I shouldn't be stuck at 230!! My goodness, I'm only 5 ft 1 1/2 ....my ideal weight is anywhere from 109-130. Pounds should be falling off.
sigh...thanks for listening (and rockinmama thought I was upbeat... :( )

2 days to weigh in...I hope all the socializing I've done and have yet to do this week doesn't come back to haunt me.
Welcome mom2! Aw, little ones...you're probably pretty busy! I have a 5yr old, a very rambunctious (sp?) one ;). You reminded me of Brick for a minute there, same age, similar age toddler... Well, welcome again.
Ah, El-I forgot to look at the flowers.
Caroljoy, are you feeling a little better today?
Rockinmama-<<hugs>> or should I say Lurk??? Lol You know I'm just kidding!

ok i've decided to change how I"m going about this. I'm currently at a 1600 calorie/day allowance. I'm dropping that to 1300 cals/day. I have only lost about 3-4 pounds this month and I'm not happy with that. I know at my weight I should be able to drop 8 pounds a month if I'm restricting my cals the right amount. So I'm hoping to lose 10 pounds by june 2 and I'm going to be strict about this. I have been giving myself too much slack and it obviously isn't working. I'm going to kick ass this time!
o and my $0.02 about the atkins diet. It is great if you can stick to it. My problem was finding enough foods I could eat w/o eating the same thing everyday. But it works! And as long as you can transition to a healthy calorie-regulated diet after the weight is off then I think it's possible to keep the weight off but I know it's hard. but probably just restricting your carbs in general but not completely cutting them out is a better idea.

Hi Everyone! Yet another newbie here - I just joined CC today and was thrilled to find this group. You all seem like great people and you really support each other and seem to care how/what everyone is doing. Kudos to all of you!
I'm 35 years old, 5' 3.5" and weigh in at 240. (Yeesh!!) I've been working on losing weight since the beginning of the year, and am now down about 30 lbs from where I started. I have an extremely long way to go, so am hoping this site will help. That grading system seems like a good incentive!! We'll see.
Anyway, enough out of me! Good luck to everyone! Thanks for being so open and supporting to newcomers! Looking forward to getting to know everyone a little bit better.......
Have a fantastic weekend and keep up the good work! : )

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I have been battling with weight for years and am hoping being in a community and finding support from people in similar situations will help me get it under control for once. :)
Yes, the babies keep me quite busy. You would think that would help me lose weight, but I am a stress eater and nothing will stress you out like having 2 babies less than 2 years apart. :) My 2 year old is a little hellion on wheels and my 9 month old is crazy.
Look forward to getting to know everyone!

mom2eli_gabbi - there is something that stresses you out worse five kids and three are teens boys who eat anything who isn't nailed to the floor and a twig of a preteen daughter who goes around saying she is fat while downing a box of little deb brownies and never gaining a pound. oh what I would do with her metabolism. heehee. then I have Ariana she is four. but enough anout me . I am bored and my legs still are burning from the cardio dvd I just did. man I did not think I could squat so much and not break some thing. Trying to avoid my kitchen.so I'll bounce around the different threads while the kids are napping.
Welcome smiley_jh and congrats on your weight loss! keep up the good work!! :O))
